Livonia/Canandaigua:  At age 92, Virginia passed away peacefully, at the home of her granddaughter Julia Loyd, with her family by her side on Sunday, January 19, 2025.  Virginia was born on July 13, 1932, in Canadice, NY to the late Howard and Blanche Whitney.  She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 69 years, Thomas L. Sargeant, her son-in-law, Charles Deller, her grandson; Richard Britton, and great-grandson; Jerry Britton.  Survived by her daughters; Barbara Deller of Lima, NY, Sharon Sargeant of Avon, NY, Linda (Armando) Alvarado of Chicago, IL, and Amber (Jeff) Savage of Rushville, NY, her sister, Betty McLean, her sisters-in-law, Susan Wright, and Lois Whitney, her 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Virginia and her husband Thomas had their own iron ornamental company in Livonia for many years.  She was also an inspector at Ritter Dental and a cafeteria worker at RIT. 

Virginia was a member of the Covered Bridge Association.  She and Tom traveled to several states to see many bridges.

Virginia enjoyed playing Bingo, gardening, and canning, but what she loved the most was spending time with her family.

Livonia: At age 68, Donna passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at her home in Livonia. She was born on November 20, 1956, to the late Donald and Rita Saver. Donna is predeceased by her son Jeremy Hawkins, her brother, Donald Shaver Jr., and her nieces and nephews, Danny Shaver, Billy Smith, and Tasha Shaver. Survived by her beloved husband of nearly 30 years, Jeffrey A. Marsh, and her children, Shawn Hawkins (3 children), Christopher Hawkins (1 child), Jarid (Carrie) Hawkins (4 children), Justin (Casey) Marsh (3 children), Nate (Katie) Marsh (3 children), and Matthew Marsh (4 children), her siblings, Jay (BB) Shaver, Janet Loudin, Val (Charlie) Prevorse, Heidi (David) Cauvel, Jenny (Bill) Smith her 13 grandchildren, and her 3 great-grandchildren, along with several family, and friends.

After attending High School in Dansville, NY, Donna went on to become an LPN for Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. Donna also worked for Craig Colony in Sonyea and for the New York State Developmental Disabilities Service Office in Batavia. Donna loved spending time with her family, especially with her great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Hemlock, NY:  Paul was born on March 26, 1933 in Canadice, NY and passed on January 10, 2025 in Rochester, NY, at age 91 years.  He was predeceased by his parents Leo and Jesse Ellen (Hoppough) Marshall, daughter Sharon Decker; siblings; Lyle Marshall, Donald Marshall, Adelle Connor, and William Marshall. 

Survived by his wife of 71 years Shirley (Thorpe) Marshall and children; Michael Marshall of Hemlock, Jim Marshall of Hemlock, Roger Marshall of Honeoye, and Sheila (Fred) Staley of Conesus; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; special grandson John Marshall, and many nieces and nephews.

Paul graduated from the Hemlock School in 1951 and in 1953 he was inducted into the US Army.  He served from 1953 -1954 including time stationed in Korea.  He was honorably discharged from his reserve obligation in 1961.  Paul married Shirley in 1953 and they made Hemlock their home for their entire life.  Paul loved camping with his family and for many years had a permanent site at Holiday Hill in Springwater.  He had many hobbies and was a collector for all his life!

Lakeville: Susan Jo Thomas, age 78, of Lakeville, NY peacefully passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, Pat and Majorie Essler. She is survived by her loving husband, Yale “Skip” Thomas, brother, Robert (Dottie) Essler, daughter, Stacy (Robert) Jones, sons, Todd (Kimi) Hyde, and Andy (Natalia) Thomas, and many grand and great-grandchildren.

Sue was born on August 27, 1946, and graduated from the Livonia Central School. She lived in Lakeville her entire life, where she raised two children. She worked at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home for many years and at the Livonia Central School, where she retired. Sue enjoyed camping, playing euchre, and any type of activity that involved her being with friends and family. She was a very generous and caring woman, that all will miss.

Hemlock: At age 69, Don passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at FF Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, NY. He was born on July 18, 1955, in Dansville, NY to the late Ray and Liz Struble. Survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Jeanne M. (Rhoads) Struble, his son Troy Struble, his grandchildren, Trinity Colyer, Kayleen Colyer, and Cohen Colyer, his sister, Sharon (Jim) Lucey, mom of 49 years Shirley Rhoads, a life long Brother Chet Wester along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.

After graduating from Livonia High School, Don proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.

Farmington: At age 78, Jim passed away peacefully at AdventHealth in Kissimmee FL on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, after a years long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born to the late Myron and Emily (Osmond) Gates on March 1, 1946, in Liverpool NY, Jim was pre-deceased by sisters Judith (Clarence) Massie of Springfield OH, and Martha (Walt) Nels of Liverpool NY. Survived by his beloved partner of 30 and wife of 15 years, Karen Jo Flood Gates, along with his daughters, Julie E. (Brian) Rockefeller, and Sarah C. (Tim) Wesgate, his grandchildren, Carter Rockefeller, Elizabeth Rockefeller, Anna Wesgate, McKenzie Wesgate and Finnegan Wesgate, his brother, Don (Freida) Gates, and several loving nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

Jim graduated high school in Liverpool NY, served in the US Army in Arizona, and earned 2 master’s degrees from RIT in Rochester NY. After working as a computer programmer / business and systems analyst in the food and clothing industries including Curtice-Burns, and Champion Products-Hanes-Sarah Lee, Jim retired in 2008 from Seneca Foods in Marion NY.

Conesus: On Saturday, January 4th, Ronald “Ron” Steenblok, passed away unexpectedly, at the age of 69. He was born in Bowral, New South Wales, Australia to Udo and Grada Steenblok, who predeceased him, as does his sister Sandra. Family was the most important thing to him, and he was always happiest when he could be with the ones he loved. Ron is survived by his wife Debra Steenblok (nee Pavone), children Brad Steenblok (Zamira), Cassi Steenblok, Justine Donohue (Daniel), and grandchildren Gabriella Steenblok, and Hannah, Joseph, George, Laura, and Michael Donohue, along with many cousins and nieces and nephews.

After traveling the world, Ron moved to New York Mills, New York as a boy. He loved America and became a naturalized citizen, spending the majority of his life in the Greater Rochester Area where he built his home in Conesus. He worked for 30 years at Eastman Kodak in the transportation department until he retired in 2003. After starting his own business he returned to his passion of driving and making deliveries, working for FedEx before retiring officially in February 2020.

Ron loved the outdoors including camping, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He had an incredible sense of humor and would light up a room with his jokes, quick wit, and ability to talk to anyone. Ron valued his faith in God and was a member of Calvary Chapel in Groveland and has been an active member in the community previously serving as a Boy Scout Leader and member of the Conesus Town Board for many years.

Livonia: At age 84, Terry passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. He was born on February 18, 1940, to the late Philip and Anne Walter. Survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Patricia A. (Morrissey) Walter, his daughters, Amy (Mark) Morsch, and Kim (Tim) Bland, his grandchildren, Emily (Paul) Wilson, Ryan Bland, Peter Morsch, and Elizabeth Morsch, his siblings, Charles (Sara) Walter, Marilyn (William) Christopher, and Suzanne Holcomb, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Terry served in the Army from 1964 to 1966 and then was in the Reserves. He received his degree from Rochester Institute of Technology. Terry was a dedicated employee at Rochester Gas & Electric as an electrical engineer for 30 years. After retiring in 1995, he worked for many years at O’Connell Electric. Terry was an avid golfer and extremely handy. He always had a home improvement project in the works, being most proud of the house he and Pat built together. Terry was a devoted and loving family man. He was very proud of his children and, even more so, his grandchildren. He was more than happy to brag about them whenever possible and beamed when doing so. Terry will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Honeoye: Brian E. Walsh passed away on January 1, 2025. His unwavering support for friends and family, coupled with his infectious enthusiasm for life, will be deeply missed. Brian was a beloved husband, father, son, sibling, uncle, and dear friend. Brian was the son of James and Lynn Walsh of Farmington, NY, and brother to James Walsh of Cuba, NY, and Kim Johnsen of Bloomfield, NY.  Brian was married to Kathy Karle Walsh in 2006 and they made their home in Honeoye.  Brian’s son was Avery Walsh of Buffalo, NY.  Brian was a member of the class of 1991 at Victor High School.

Brian truly lived life to the fullest and his spirit was as vibrant as the photographs he captured. Brian graced this world for over 51 years, leaving behind a legacy that will forever inspire us.  Brian was a husband and father; and he was a lover of life, who embraced every moment. His passion for photography allowed him to freeze those moments in time, sharing his unique perspective with all of us.  Brian also was an avid traveler and race fan, and of course, he loved all his dogs.

Brian’s bond with his wife and son was unbreakable and filled with love, warmth, and countless beautiful memories. Kathy and Avery were his world, and in them, he found his greatest happiness. Brian’s generous love was extended to his parents, siblings, his whole family, and all his friends— and he made so many precious memories with all of them.  

Brian fought valiantly against cancer, never allowing it to overshadow his love for life. His strength and resilience were a testament to his character, reminding us all to cherish our time together. Throughout his journey, Brian’s strong faith remained a guiding light, reassuring him and those who loved him that he would one day be reunited with Jesus in heaven. We Thank God for the eternal hope of everlasting life, where all pain is ended.

As we say goodbye to Brian, let us honor his memory by embracing life, living in Faith, and cherishing every moment with those we hold dear.  And may Brian’s light continue to shine in our lives.

Conesus:  At age 65, Ken passed on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY.  He was born on September 22, 1959 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Kenneth and Vicki Mensinger. 

Survived by his life partner Mary Moore of Conesus; his children, Sally Seeley, Kenneth Mensinger, Jessica Delaney, and Koral Mensinger; siblings, Cheri (John) Tietsworth, Lowell Mensinger, Tina Mensinger (George Kretchmer), and Michelle (Stephen) Hilbrecht, many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ken loved anything with a motor, tinkering in the garage, wondering how to make it faster, louder, quieter. Anything to add some dazzle. Going to the stock car races or a car show was his idea of a great day.  He always had his dog following him, getting under his feet, in general driving him crazy….but he wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.  He is missed and loved by many.

Geneseo: Dean passed away at home on Sunday, December 29, 2024.  He was born on June 5, 1934, in Towanda, PA, to the late Thomas and Irene Shaffer. Paul graduated from Livonia High School in 1982 and then studied at Clarkson University, graduating magna cum laude, he earned his master’s degree at Lehigh University and a second masters at the Simon Business School at the U of R.  He worked for Bell Labs as a technical analyst and was working as an electrical engineer with Ledvance in Wilmington, Massachusetts.

In his free time, Paul immersed himself in friends, especially his best friend, Lana. He would not leave home without his four-legged companion, whether spending the morning around the breakfast table or taking overnight trips to visit friends. He always had room for his best friend, Lana.

Mount Morris: At age 73, Val passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. She was born on February 3, 1951, in Dansville, NY to the late Otis and Ruth Johnston. Val is predeceased by her siblings, Martin Johnston, Ivan (Nora) Johnston, Robert Johnston, David Johnston, Kenneth (Joeen) Johnston, Patty Collister (Dave Love), Sheila Johnston, Collette McTarnaghan, and June (Bill) Mills. Val was retired from FLDDSO after 38 years of service and having the “best job ever”. She enjoyed most spending time with family and friends, playing cards, helping others, attending church, and taking photos of sunsets, rainbows, and nature. Val had a love for music (Righteous Brothers, Kenny Rogers, Tina Turner, Elvis, and any oldie but goodie song. She was hard-working, kind, compassionate, and loved God, life, and people to the fullest. Those closest to her referred to her as “Hollywood” or “Cheeseburger”.

Livonia: At age 97, Jean passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, December 22, 2024. She was born on May 14, 1927, to the late Vivian Brown and Mable (Robert Waide Sr.) Waide, was predeceased by her husband, William J. Benson Sr., and son, Brian E. Benson. Jean is survived by her children, Gloria M. (Steve) Struble, Kathleen A. (Chris) Cook, and, William J. Jr. (Brenda) Benson. 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jean was a telephone operator for 42 years with the Rochester Telephone Company.

Honeoye:  At age 85, Charlie passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at FF Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua.  He was born on September 13, 1939, in Canandaigua, NY to the late Charles Fletcher and Agnes (Verstrate) McGory.  Charlie is predeceased by his sisters, Kathleen McGory and Alice McGory.  Survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Beverly (Matthews) McGory, his sons, Bernie McGory and Brian McGory, and his grandchildren, Alexandria McGory, Kevin McGory, and Shaylyn McGory, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Geneseo/Avon:  At age 72, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024. She was born on October 15, 1952 to the late Leo and Helen Agnello,  predeceased by her husband, Timothy Kelly and brother, Leo Agnello. Sharon is survived by her sons, Joshua Trubia and Matthew Trubia, brother, Robert (Lynn) Agnello, grandchildren, Giana, Jackson, Rowan and Julian Trubia. Very close family friends, Nicole Bedard and Liliana VanHarken.

Sharon was a person who enjoyed helping others, shopping at Goodwill which she knew would support the community. She was a great mother, and grandmother and will be missed by her family.

Livonia:  At age 79, Vern passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, NY.  He was born on December 5, 1945, in Rochester, NY to the late Elmer and Marion Trimble.  Survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Faith A. (Kline) Trimble, his daughters, Mechele (Jeff) Palmiter, and Laura (Erik) Adamson, and his grandchildren, Daelyn Palmiter, Aleena Palmiter.

Vern was a devoted patriot, a loving family man, and an avid golfer. Born with a deep love for his country, he proudly displayed American flags throughout his life and served with honor as a Vietnam War veteran in the renowned “Big Red One” division after being drafted. His service exemplified his unwavering dedication to the nation he held so dear.

An enthusiastic golfer, Vern played three times a week and achieved the rare feat of shooting his age twice — at 72 on August 13, 2018, and again at 73 on September 25, 2019.

Vern built a successful career at Bird’s Eye Foods, where he worked for 29 years. Beyond work, he found joy and solace at “the farm,” the family’s land in Springwater lovingly referred to as “camp.” There, he spent countless weekends enjoying the outdoors, creating cherished memories with loved ones.

Known for his kind soul and generous spirit, Vern was always ready to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and selflessness that will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
