Conesus Lake/Geneseo: Passed away March 25, 2018, at age 70, after a nine-month struggle with metastatic cancer. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Helen (Williams) Doell and his brother, Thomas. Tim is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Shirley and son, Timothy James Doell of Florida, sister Helen (Richard) Palmatier, brother Terry (Susan) Doell, brother-in-law David (Barbara) Kusmierczak and sister-in-law Christine Rindfleisch. Tim was a sheet metal worker with local #46 for the past fifty years, retiring from the Genesee Brewery after 39 years as a sheet metal worker since high school graduation. Tim retired in 2006 with the Teamsters Union #118. Tim enjoyed the water in boating, vacations, water skiing and was a certified scuba diver. Tim was an ambassador for the Genny Beer he enjoyed.

Gary was born February 5th, 1952 in Rochester, NY, and spent his childhood living in Honeoye Falls. He graduated from HF-L and later attended MCC where he received his degree in Civil Engineering. Gary worked 30+ years at Consler Filtration in Honeoye Falls, and most recently over 10 years with the DOT in Henrietta. He loved being outdoors. Hiking in the Adirondacks and fishing were some of his favorite past times. He also loved all things Scotland and Ireland, and had a passion for playing the bagpipes. Gary’s most recent love was towards his 2 young granddaughters who will miss him dearly.

Honeoye: March 19, 2018 at age 81 years. Predeceased by husband Paul Lanphear, Jr. (Mouse), parents Murray & Pauline Washburn, siblings; Charles, Jack, & Lester Washburn, sister Irene Blair. Shirley grew up on the family farm. She kept up with her brothers doing chores and bailing hay where she drove the tractor. She loved her independence and driving field cars. She later drove in the stock car races and had trophies from the Powder Puff Derby! She was one of 13 from the class of “56 graduating from HCS. Her classmates still keep in touch to this day and kept in close touch with Shirley. They began their 60th reunion with a social gathering at the Highlands at Brighton making sure to include her in the festivities.

Shirley was passionate about playing cards, solitaire on her tablet and casino trips! Her work history included Laminex, Rexham and retiring from Bristol Graphics where she had many close friends.

She will be remembered with a smile and for her courage – she inspired those around her!

Hemlock: Linda H. Wright, 76 years, of Hemlock, NY died peacefully on March 16, 2018 in Warsaw, NY. She was born on May 22, 1941 the daughter of Charles and Gertrude Haus. Linda graduated from Hilton High School in 1959 and later was a File Clerk at Harter Seacrest & Emery Attorneys in Rochester, NY for over 20 years. She was a woman of strong Christian faith, enjoyed camping and motorcycles, had a love for animals especially dogs and cats, and she belonged to a local sewing club for many years.

Linda was predeceased by her husband Roger J. Wright, brother William Haus, and sister Eileen Martin. Honeoye: Peacefully on March 13, 2018 at age 77. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia (Burton) DeNise and children; Mark (Tracy) DeNise of Newark, Julie (Charlie) Lowery of Honeoye, and Lori (Phillip) Baldauf of OH; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brother David (Sally) DeNise, sister Betty Privitera, many nieces & nephews and friends.

Dick was born a city boy with a country heart. After serving a short tour with the Navy, he married Ginny and they settled in Honeoye where they lived and loved for the next 57 years. Together they provided a loving and nurturing home to three children, and became part of a community that would forever be where they called home. As part of that community, Dick and Ginny became active members of the United Church of Christ where he sat on the Board of Trustees, and sang bass in the choir.

For 29 years, Dick worked at Stone Construction Equipment. While there, he put to use his creative mind and his tinkering soul working in both Research and Development and as an exceptional welder. As his children grew and began their own lives, Dick found opportunities to serve his community and beyond in a number of ways.

Through NY Help he continued his trips to a small village in Honduras. His missions brought the villagers running water, a medical facility and a school. Dick also volunteered with the American Red Cross providing meals and fresh water during hurricanes Andrew and Katrina, and wherever else his help was needed.

Serving with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Dick spent many summer weekends on Seneca Lake. His service with the Coast Guard not only provided an additional avenue to serve, it put him on the water. It was water that soothed his soul. An avid swimmer since high school, Dick swam the length of Honeoye Lake.

A devoted husband, loving father and fiercely loyal friend, there are no words to express our sorrow. His stories, his laughter, and his devotion will be greatly missed here on this earthly plane, but will live on in our hearts and memories. God called him home too soon for us, but at the right time for him. Our faith reassures us that one day, when the time is right, we will be together again.

Honeoye: Lena Jane (Rowley) Cratsley passed peacefully on March 10th at the age of 86. She was predeceased by Alfred, her husband of 66 years, her parents Gilbert & Annabelle Rowley, brother Gilbert Rowley and her sister, Edna Ingerick. She is survived by her children, Bonnie Thayer, Bruce Cratsley, Betsy (Don) Shaw and Brian Cratsley, 6 grandchildren; Raphael, Adrian, Todd, Tammy, Benjamin & Emily, 6 great grandchildren, brother-in-law & sister-in-law Arthur & Priscilla Cratsley, brother-in-law Joseph Ingerick & several nieces & nephews.

Fondly known as Jane, she was born in Webster on February 9, 1932. At the age of 4, her parents moved back to Richmond on Reed Road where she grew up. At the age of 16 she met Al Cratsley at a dance in Hemlock, fell in love and married at the age of 18 on June 13, 1950.

Al & Jane were a team throughout their marriage. In the early years, they owned an excavation business – installing wells, driveways, septic systems & breakwalls all the around the area. After injuring his back, Al moved onto roofing and siding. Jane learned to measure and cut shingles & siding and helped Al do the installing. Then in 1965, they opened Cratsley Bait Farm. Jane stayed home and ran the business, selling live bait & tackle and renting boats. When age would no longer let them do the roofing/siding and bait business, they closed both and went on the road selling gourmet meats door to door for Anchors Away in the southern tier and northern Pennsylvania. Jane was the navigator, remembering where all their customers were located and keeping Al from getting lost. As age and health issues took over, they stayed home and Jane became Al’s caregiver while she battled her own issues. They would enjoy playing dominoes and other games and watching college basketball.

Jane had always wanted to be a nurse so when the Richmond Fire Dept opened their company to women, she joined and became a member of the ambulance squad. For 35 years, she and Al would drop everything and run out the door to a call. Jane was always proud that she had delivered a baby. She also was elected as treasurer and held the position for 37 years and 8 years for the exempt club.

Jane enjoyed deer hunting & fishing with Al and she was very good at both. She loved the outdoors and was always found working in her garden and flowerbeds or watching her kids and grandchildren play in the yard. Visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren were always the highlight of her day. Jane also loved to crochet and made over 30 sets of afghans/pillows and loved to crochet doilies. You could always find Jane in the kitchen baking delicious banana nut bread, kneading dough for rolls, or making a pot of soup. At harvest time she would be canning stewed tomatoes, making tomato soup, spaghetti sauce and yes of course, her famous cinnamon pickles.

Canadice: Passed peacefully at home on March 9, 2018 at age 82. Predeceased by his parents Everett and Caroline (Blackmer) Affolter. Survived by his wife of 54 years, Jane (Ohol) Affolter and children; Sondra (Brian Conway) Affolter, Renee (Omar) Baki, Christopher (Heather) Affolter, and Michelle (Romney) Lima; grandchildren, Omar, Dany, Zane, Caroline, Anna, Erick, Nicole, Bruna, and Milana. Clark grew up in Canadice, NY and graduated from Honeoye Central School in 1953 where he lettered in football and basketball. He attended Cornell University and earned an associate’s degree in agriculture. Following graduation, Clark stayed in Ithaca and started his professional career managing one of the dairy barns that was part of Cornell’s Agricultural program. In 1976, Clark accepted a position with Eastern AI, where he worked for the next 24 years as a supervisor of their young sire complex. In his spare time, Clark could be found biking around the Finger Lakes region or twirling Jane around the dance floor. He also enjoyed attending many of the local fairs throughout the region. But his biggest passion was being involved in his kid’s sports. If he wasn’t coaching, he could always be found in the stands, usually being the loudest supporter on the sidelines.

Clark retired in 2000 and moved back to the family homestead in Canadice with Jane. He spent his time hiking the hills at Harriet Hollister and many of the other state parks in the region with the Rovers Hiking Club. He also loved to take road trips through the countryside to take-in the beauty of the local farming landscape. Clark was always willing to lend a helping hand to a friend, neighbor, or family member in need. He kept up his passion for sports by following many of the Honeoye High School sports teams no matter what the season.

Lima: Diana, a resident of Lima, NY, passed away peacefully at the Teresa House in Geneseo, NY on March 8, 2018 at the age of 72.

Diana grew up in the Town of Parma, NY (in Hilton). She was the daughter of Victor and Marion Anderson and sister to Judith Rapelje. In 1963, she graduated from Hilton High School in Hilton, NY. Early on, she worked at Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY. During this time she met her husband James H. Stevenson and they were married in 1967 at the Hilton Baptist Church. Their son Eric J. Stevenson was born in 1972 and their second son Brett J. Stevenson was born in 1977. In 1985 she started working with her sister Judith, at The 1812 Country Store in Hemlock, NY. She always felt very lucky to be able to spend so much time with her sister, doing a job she loved, in a place that became the focal point for her family. She also worked at the Sullivan Insurance Company in downtown Honeoye Falls, NY where she grew close to many people in the community.

Diana was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was giving and selfless. Even near the end, she always had a gentle smile and kind word for everyone around her. She loved her family and pets more than life itself. She kept her home open to everyone, making sure her children and their friends always felt welcome. Many of her children’s friends felt she was their second mother. She will be missed, but her love, compassion, and kindness will live on through her children, grandchildren, and everyone whose lives she touched.

Diana is survived by her husband, James H. Stevenson and her sister Judith Rapelje. Her son, Eric J. Stevenson and his wife Bonnie Tamarin, live in Apex, NC with their daughters Liana and Kyra Stevenson. Her son Brett J. Stevenson and his wife Elizabeth “Anna” Stevenson (Quimby) live in Lima, NY with their daughter Skylar Stevenson.

Livonia: Vesta L. Forshee of Livonia, passed away peacefully at the age of 96, Saturday, March 3, 2018, with her loving family at her side. Vesta will be remembered as a compassionate Christian who touched the lives of many. She graduated from Fredonia State College and began teaching in Canaseraga in 1947. Vesta loved reading, travel, friends and family.
