Newman W. Storke – May 8, 2015

scan1600101

Honeoye: May 8, 2015 at age 96 years. Predeceased by his parents Fred and Blanche (Warren) Storke, son Martin Storke, and sister Joyce Klossner. Survived by his wife of 35 years Mabel Storke. Children; David Storke of OR, Kay (David) Nolan of Honeoye Falls, Sue Storke of Bristol, Joanne Chittester (Bill Rude) of Honeoye Falls, Scott (Ismael) Storke of Honeoye Falls, Molly Storke of Brighton, Tim (Kim) Stanley of VA, and Chuck (Tina) Stanley of Macedon. Siblings; Ellen Gillette of Lima and Bruce (Marion) Storke of Hemlock. 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces & nephews. Newman was a Seabee serving in the US Navy during WWII and was a retiree of PINCO-Joslyn Manufacturing, Lima, NY.

Newman lived a rich & full life, and left us with so many memories. He was born & raised on a farm in Scottsville as the first child of Fred & Blanche Storke. One of his favorite pastimes was swimming & playing with his friends in the Genesee River which bordered their farm. The Genesee was clear in those days. He always managed to take a dip after each round in the field with the horses. When they changed to a tractor, he even managed to put that in the river too! When WW II broke out, he was drafted into the US Navy (the Seabees), and trained at Sampson Navel Yard on Seneca Lake where he taught swimming. After the service he worked at PINCO in Lima, staying for 34 years and retired as a maintenance foreman. He then worked as a carpenter with son Scott.

After retiring he and his wife went on to build their own home in the solitude above Honeoye Lake. The many interests he cultivated over the years included his big garden, fishing (especially in his own pond) and leisure drives. He especially enjoyed visits and card games with family & friends. One of his favorite events was meeting with other retirees at the PINCO lunches. Newman had a favorite momento -a 2″ plastic goat given to him by his granddaughter Becca. Although he kept a goat while he was growing up on the farm & kept a goat while his kids were growing up, he couldn’t commit the time necessary to keep a goat in later years. That goat even followed him into the nursing home.

Friends may call on Saturday, May 16th, from 3-5pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 8624 Main Street, Rte 20A, Honeoye. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Sampson National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
