Livonia: Rosalia C. Sweeney, 93 years of Big Tree St. Livonia, died Sunday December 27, 2009 at Highland Hospital in Rochester after being admitted earlier that day. She was born in West Pawlet, Vermont, November 15, 1916, the daughter of James and Clara Mason Cramer. She was predeceased by her husband, local prominent businessman, Maurice F. Sweeney on October 6, 1998.

She is survived by her daughters, Susanne (Steve) Greenberg of Voorheesville, NY, Anne (Gerard) Bisceglia of Fountain Hills, Arizona and Maura (Alberto Lopez) Sweeney of Baltimore, Maryland and 4 grandchildren.

Carl F. Fontaine, 79 years, of Branch St. Livonia, died Saturday December 26, 2009 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mount Morris, after a brief stay. Carl was born in Ossian, NY September 3, 1930, the son of Zephir and Agnes Rawlings Fontaine. He was predeceased by his wife, Maybelle in 1979. A retired construction worker, he was a member of Local Carpenters Union #85. Carl served his country in the US Navy from 1950 to 1954, when he was honorably discharged. His membership included the former St. Josephs Church in Livonia, St. Matthews Church in Livonia, also the Dansville VFW Post #6780. He also was a lifetime member of the Canaseraga American Legion Post.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Arlene Moyer of Livonia. His sister, Agnes Nagel of Pickens, South Carolina. 20 nieces and nephews, many dear friends.

Gerard A. “Gerry” Giehl, 58 years of McPhersons Point, Conesus Lake, Livonia, NY, formerly of Greece, NY, died at his home Tuesday evening, December 22, 2009 in the arms of his loving family. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, July 7, 1951, the son of Aloysius and Mary Martinelli Giehl. Gerry received his extensive education at St. Andrews Seminary, Kings Prep, Becket Hall, St Bernards Semininary and St John Fisher College all in Rochester. Gerry was an active member of St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church in Livonia.

Gerry is survived by his wife, Barbara Quinlan Giehl; daughter AnneMarie Giehl of NYC; sons, Brian Giehl of Greece, Brendan Giehl of NYC, Brett Giehl of Rochester; parents, Aloysius and Mary Giehl of Rochester; sister, Mary (Greg Boyer) of Syracuse; brothers, John (Debby) Giehl of Irondequoit, Alan (Nancy) Giehl of Boulder, CO; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Warren E. “Stub” Bartlett, Sr. – December 13, 2009

Sparta-Lakeville: 87 years, of Reeds Corners Road, Sparta died Sunday December 13, 2009 at Teresa House in Geneseo, NY. Stub was born in Livonia, NY January 10, 1922, the son of Lewis E. and Adella Perkins Bartlett. He was a World War 2 Veteran of the US Army Air Force. He was a longtime member of the Lakeville United Church of Christ, a member of the Lakeville Fire Dept. and its Exempt Club and a social member of the Sparta Fire Department. Warren was a retiree of Eastman Kodak Co., who enjoyed gardening and became a great animal lover in his retirement years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Ruth Wilson Bartlett; children, Warren and Shari Bartlett, Jr. of Pavilion and Connie and Don Collins of Wayland. 5 grandchildren, Chris Bartlett, Tracey Crowley, Missy Buchanan, Jon Bartlett, and Krista Bartlett. 5 great grandchildren, Makayla, Matthew, Claire, Brandon, and Catherine. Melvin C. “Butch” Cronk, 66 years, of Honeoye died Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the Vincent House in Wayland. He was born in Rochester, NY December 18, 1942 the son of Chester and Sadiemae DeVos Cronk. Butch retired from the City of Rochester after 35 years of service. His interests were many and included hunting, fishing, NASCAR, also owning and driving vintage cars.

On Sunday morning, November 22, 2009, at nearly 82 years of age, Jean Theresa Leasure of Rochester and Conway, South Carolina passed after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by many of her loving family members. Jean is survived by husband of 56 years, C. Jay Leasure, sons C. Jay III and wife Eva of Honeoye Falls, Rick and wife Jeanne of Brighton, and daughters Luellen Leasure of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Jeanne Leasure and husband Steve Levin of Boulder, Colorado.

Jean was infinitely proud of her family and a deeply devoted Mother and Grandmother. Together, she and Jay had 4 children, 13 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and expecting one more great grandchild in March. Her grandchildren include Jennifer Leasure who passed in June of 2008, Ryan (Nikki) Graham, Cleason Jay Leasure IV, Jason (Margarita) Graham, Maggie (Andy Webster) Leasure, Jack (Kelly) Leasure, Kasey Leasure, Ben Leasure, Samantha Leasure, Anna Leasure, Ben Leatherwood, Maddie Levin and Ava Levin. Great grandchildren include Dorothy Leasure and Isabella Graham.

Born on November 28, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York, Jean was the only child of Maria and Angelo Pesce. She moved to Rochester in 1951 and met husband Jay at the Country Club Diner in 1952. The couple married in 1953 and went on to own and operate 4 restaurants of their own spending 45 years making customers smile in Rochester and Livingston County. Jean was a very hard worker and generous with customers and employees alike. She was arguably the world’s cleanest and most organized woman. Jean will be missed by many as she touched so many lives. Before her death, she asked of her family and friends to remember the good times and celebrate a life well lived.

Miklos “Miki” Szoczei – November 22, 2009

Conesus: Miklos “Miki” Szoczei, 69 years of Marrowback Road, Conesus died suddenly, Sunday November 22, 2009 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. He was born November 24, 1939 and raised in Tet, Hungary, the son of Istvan and Irene Eore Szoczei. In 1956 at the age of 17 he escaped from communist controlled Hungary and immigrated to the US. He resided in NYC with his father’s relatives, the Salamons, eventually making his way to Rochester. At age 22, he was proud to become a US citizen. Miki was a member of Local 03, Bricklayers Union for 28 years working as a mason.

He was the beloved husband of Terry Nichols Szoczei; devoted father to Elaine (Kurt) Brehm of Springwater, Miklos Szoczei of Canandaigua and Steven (Cindy) Szoczei of Waldorf, MD., cherished grandfather of Delaney and Markus Brehm, and Bailey Szoczei. loving son of Istvan and Irene; brother of Irene of Hungary.

Rosemary L. Wester, 82 years of Railroad Ave. Conesus died Saturday November 14, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Rochester, NY January 18, 1927 the daughter of John and Mildred Grienkey Sofie. She served for many years as Conesus Town Clerk prior to her retirement. Rosemary was a member of the Conlon-Mulvaney American Legion Post Auxiliary in Conesus, the Livingston County American Legion Auxiliary and the Livingston County Town Clerks Association. In her earlier years, she also served in leadership roles with the Cub Scouts. A member of the former St. Williams Church in Conesus and St. Matthews Church in Livonia, she was active in the Rosary and Altar Society.

Predeceased by her husband, Donald F. Wester in 1989. Survived by her children, Donald and Heather Wester, Charles and Laurie Wester, and Debra and David McNicholas, all of Conesus. 9 grandchildren, Travis, Jennifer and Amy Wester. Faith and Nathan Wester. Brandi Carr, Crystal (Shawn) Konzel, Melissa and Shannon McNicholas. Nieces, nephews & cousins.

Michael J. Dick, 59 years of Hayward Hill, Canadice, formerly of Columbus, Ohio died Friday November 6, 2009 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY after a lengthy illness. He was born in Rochester, NY September 10, 1950 the son of Jack G. and Julia Nagy Dick. Mike was a 1968 graduate a Pleasant View High School and then furthered his education at Ohio State University where he attained his BS Degree in Economics. He served his country in the Vietnam War where he was awarded a purple heart along with countless other medals and awards. Very active, along with his wife Karen, in community affairs, Mike was an avid lighthouse collector, a NASCAR and Casey King fan, and was one of the best Ohio State Buckeye fans. He was Past Commander and member of the Honeoye-Hemlock American Legion Post, Past Patron of the Honeoye Eagle Masonic Lodge, and Past Associate Patron of the Honeoye Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Along with being employed by C.H. Beverage Distributors of LeRoy, NY, Mike and his wife, owned and operated Libertees Custom Imprinted Apparel in Canadice. As a talented actor, Mike participated in many local plays and musicals which he delighted to be part of.

Mike is survived by his wife Karen; step-sons, Robert S. and Lisa Graham of Georgesville, OH., Aaron H.J. and Sara Graham of Bloomfield, NY; 3 grandchildren, Tyler R.R. Graham, Marcus B. Graham and Abigail J. Graham; brothers, John G. and Patricia Dick of Fairhope, AL, David M. and Linda Dick of Columbus, OH; sister Ann P. and Robert Thompson of Fairport; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cora C. Brinkerhoff, 89 years of Wildbriar Drive, Livonia, formerly of Dunkirk, NY died Monday November 2, 2009 at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home in Livonia after a brief stay. Mrs. Brinkerhoff was born in Aldon, NY, October 18, 1920 the daughter of Frank and Carrie Studeman Will. She was a member and past matron of Sylan Eastern Star Chapter #258 in Dunkirk. She also was active in the Conesus and Livonia Senior Citizen Clubs and was active with TRIAD in Livingston County and a member of the Livonia United Methodist Church. Cora was a retired bookeeper at Fadales Empire Distributing in Fredonia. Cora grew up in Dunkirk, and graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1938. Following graduation, she attended Chowns Business College in Buffalo and Dunkirk Business Institute. In April, 1939, she married Albert S. Brinkerhoff, and resided in Buffalo during World War 2, prior to moving back to Dunkirk. Upon Mr. Brinkerhoff’s retirement, and his declining health, they moved to the Livonia area to be closer to son Albert and his family. Cora was a very outgoing lady who enjoyed all of her friends and family, as well as shopping and traveling with her fellow Senior Citizens.

Cora was predeceased by her husband Albert S. Brinkerhoff in 1988 and her grandson, NY State Trooper David C. Brinkerhoff in 2007. She is survived by her sons, Albert and Mary Brinkerhoff of Livonia, Roy and Ruth Brinkerhoff of Buffalo, Richard and Linda Brinkerhoff of Trinity, Florida, 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
