Maryellen Jobes – January 23, 2022

Bristol/Honeoye:  At age 66, Maryellen passed peacefully on January 23, 2022, surrounded by her family.  She was born in Rochester, NY on February 27, 1955 to the late George and Wanda (Sokolski) Skromak. Survived by her husband of 39 years, Kenneth Jobes and children; Ryan Jobes (Lily Curtis-Harris) of Fairfax, CA and Devon Marie Fikes of Brighton; grandson Cole C. Fikes; and sister Elizabeth Rizzo of Irondequoit; also survived by a wealth of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.

Maryellen lived enough for several lifetimes in her 66 years. She spent her early days in Rochester, where she fell in love with the rock n’ roll spirit. She would sometimes share stories of seeing Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and The Rolling Stones perform in their prime. She finished high school while living in Sarasota Florida.

Without ever having set foot in the state of Colorado, she moved to Breckenridge, where she spent her days skiing, fishing, and creating friendships that lasted the rest of her life, including her husband of 39 years Ken Jobes. In the early 80’s she gave birth to her first child Ryan in a ski clinic at the base of Peak 9 in Vail CO!  A testament to her dedication to take advantage of every last snow day that she could. Soon after, she and her young family relocated to Southern Maine where she worked as a paralegal, and a few years later gave birth to her daughter Devon.

By the late 80’s she had moved back to the greater Rochester area to be close to her parents, eventually settling in Bristol, NY. This is also where she began her career in Real Estate, working with Dick Kraft on and off for the better part of 25 years. In the 90’s she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease that required near daily visits to the hospital and multiple surgeries. This diagnosis and intensive treatment had no effect on her continued ability to be an amazing mother, wife, and friend.

Many people know Maryellen from her days pouring drinks at the Honeoye Pub where she was a co-owner for over a decade. During that time she also invented her wild garlic wing sauce that’s talked about to this very day. The last decade or so of her life was spent in retirement and as a loving grandmother to her grandson Cole, whom she loved more than anyone else on this earth.

Maryellen was also an avid consumer of literature and a lifelong learner, who read several books a week for most of her life. She would even complain from time to time that she had already read all the good books at the local library. She was a dear friend and counsel to many people, always willing to stay up all night talking about anything and everything. No matter how long you knew her, she always had a story to tell that you had never heard before.

Family and friends may call on Friday, January 28th, from 3pm-6pm at the Kevin W.
