Conesus, NY: At age 75, Norm passed peacefully on June 25, 2022 at the Bath VA Medical Center in Bath, NY. He was born on March 20, 1947 in Rochester, NY to the late Raymond and Jeanne (Stearns) Traugott. Survived by his wife of 52 years, Janis (Tyler) Traugott and sons; Shannon Traugott (Elizabeth Mendoza) of Livonia and Chad Traugott (Christopher Pees) of Comus, Maryland; grandson Maxim Traugott; brothers, Raymond “Kurt” (Jodie) Traugott and Craig (Cathy) Traugott; Uncle A. Robert Stearns; also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and his beloved dog Newman.
Whether serving his community and nation, or simply offering a helping hand, Norm devoted much of his life to helping others. A Vietnam veteran, Norm served in the U.S. Army, earning several service medals. For much of his career, Norm worked at the Livingston-Wyoming ARC where he trained people with disabilities to learn a vocation. Norm could also be found behind the wheel of the Geneseo Fire Department ambulance, where he served proudly for over 8 years, earning the William Haley Memorial Service Award. While volunteering for the Fresh Air Fund, Norm organized and offered less fortunate youth a more serene place to spend their summers.
A Gathering to Celebrate Norm’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 9th, from 12:30 pm-4:30 pm at the Conlon-Mulvaney American Legion Post #1779, 6317 Marshall Road, Conesus, NY. All are welcome, the gathering will begin with a short service, including military honors, at 1pm. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Geneseo Fire Department, PO Box 428, Geneseo, NY 14454, or The Teresa House, 21 Highland Road, Geneseo, NY 14454. It has been my pleasure to have known the Traugott family for over 60 years and you couldn’t ask for a more loving and giving family. Norman married Jan and I have been blessed to have Jan as my friend. Norman will be missed by all who known him.
