Clayton/Lakeville: Charles Dennis Smith passed peacefully on July 23, 2018 at age 74, surrounded in love by his family. Predeceased by his parents C. Oliver and Vivian (Green) Smith. Survived by his loving wife of 50 years Judith (Miller) Smith and son Brian (and wife Jennifer) Smith of Colorado; his two grandchildren, Colden and Nia Smith; sisters, Jan (and husband Tom) Wolski of Cambridge, NY and Heather (and husband Steve) Bailey of Vermont, and many nieces and nephews.

Dennis retired after a long career at Kraft Foods. He enjoyed the next chapter watching sunsets and ships with Judy from their home in Clayton, boating and fishing the St. Lawrence and baiting hooks for his grandchildren. When not puttering, Dennis could be found in the woods, immersed in the nature and wild he was deeply connected to. September was a time to make an annual trip to Colorado to hunt elk with his son, nephew Greg, and brother in-law Jim Johnston. This time in the Rocky Mountains was special beyond measure for father and son. A defining part of his life, hunting created lifelong friendships, and Dennis shared abundance from his success with family and friends.

Snow skiing was also a big part of his life. He and Judy were familiar faces at Swain for more than three decades and adored skiing Arapahoe Basin and Keystone in Colorado with their grandchildren who were his pride and joy.
Denny’s practicality and practical jokes will be missed as much as his presence at family gatherings and in the day to day, for he was always someone to lend a strong hand, and his barbecued chicken was a mainstay at summer gatherings.

As a grandfather, he introduced the funny pages and dominoes, made mischief and imparted patience and simple joy through fishing, playing cards, and observing the wonders of nature together. He will be missed.

Hemlock: Lee passed peacefully at home on July 11, 2018 at age 69, surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his parents Donald and Jean (Burkhardt) Auble. Survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sharon and children; Michael (Lynn) Auble of Warsaw and Michelle Malinov of NJ; grandchildren, Karmen and Matthew Auble & Simona and Lora Malinov; siblings, Judy (Kevin) Simpson and Betsy (Jim) Hoefen. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many wonderful friends. Lee served our country in the US Navy from 1968-1972 including service on the USS Chilton.

Lee was born in Rochester, NY on September 17, 1948, the oldest child of Donald and Jean Auble. He attended St. Monica’s School, Aquinas Institute and graduated from Livonia High School two years after his family moved to Livonia/Conesus Lake. After attending Monroe Community College, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served on the US Chilton as an electrician’s mate. During those Navy years, he met his wife Sharon whom he married in May 1973. They raised two beautiful children and spent 45 years celebrating a special love.

Lee enjoyed boating, woodworking, long walks & family times in beautiful Conesus and Hemlock Lakes, and the Adirondack Mountains. He fulfilled a Lifelong Dream to restore a wooden Penn Yan Swift classic boat which he proudly won awards for in Clayton, New York’s Antique Classic Boat Show.

He was often referred to as a Gentle Giant because of his kind demeanor, positive attitude, willingness to help others, and ability to view personal obstacles as a positive challenge. Despite being legally blind from macular degeneration and fighting a 3 ½ year battle with Lung cancer, he always maintained his dignity. He never complained or pitied himself. His positive attitude and the way he lived his life was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Honeoye: Peacefully on July 5, 2018 at age 90 years. Predeceased by his wife Rev. Barbara Humphrey and grandson Austin Paul White. Survived by children; Margaret (Paul) Watkins of WI, Douglas (Tracy) Humphrey of Fairport, and Catherine (Dan) White-Barber of Honeoye. 8 grandchildren; Ray, Jen, Carrie, Michael, Matthew, Ashley, Zeke, Chloe, 8 great grandchildren; Jake, Michael, Ayden, Sean, Katie, McKenna, Darby, and Kalila. Paul was a dedicated member of the Honeoye Community where he served in the Rotary Club, Richmond Fire Department, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was also a proud US Marine that served honorably during the Korean Conflict.

Paul was born May 5, 1928 in Richford, Vermont to parents Edgar and Minnie (Gallup) Humphrey. The family moved to the “homestead” on Phillips Road in Webster, NY when he was a very small child. He had seven brothers and one sister. Prior to graduating from high school, Paul enlisted in the New York Guard, Company G, 21st Regiment, serving from November 1944 to October 1946. He transferred directly from there to the U.S. Marine Corps in 1946, and attended Alfred University, Alfred, NY from 1949 to 1950 where he earned high school credits and studied refrigeration and air conditioning. During college, he married Barbara Myers on February 22, 1950, and they spent 65 wonderful years together. He served his country as a supply sergeant during the Korean Conflict, shipping out in 1951 and receiving an honorable discharge the following year.

Following his service, he started a small business in fire and flood restoration, which he named, Humphrey Service Company. Humphrey’s grew to become a well-known and respected establishment, located at 700 Goodman Avenue in Rochester, NY. He and Barbara moved to the lake cottage in 1985 that he had built for Barbara’s parents, Ford and Lois Myers (both deceased 1975), at 188 West Lake Road, Honeoye, NY.

After retirement, he started several other side businesses to keep himself occupied. He had a pilot’s license and enjoyed flying the club’s WWII Waco bi-plane to fly-in breakfasts, acting in several amateur musicals, traveling, and was an avid supporter of his wife’s ministry. He was a longstanding member of the Masons and Cooper Marine. He served on the Richmond Planning Board, the Chamber of Commerce, the Richmond Fire Department as a first responder and traffic manager, and at St. John’s Episcopal Church-Gleaners Kitchen in Canandaigua. He and his wife were loyal supporters of the activities of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending as many of their school and sporting events as they were able.
His perpetual whistling and dry sense of humor will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed.

Born in Rochester and raised in Livonia, she was the daughter of Walter and Helen Murphy. After graduating from Buffalo State, she taught special ed and elementary school in Niagara Falls, Oakland, Paris, and Maryland. Upon her retirement in 1997, she moved to Stuart, Florida, where she volunteered at Carpenter’s Kitchen, Head Start, and Mary’s Shelter, and taught religious education at her church, St. Joseph’s.

Anne was predeceased by her parents, her brother Daniel, her brother-in-law Peter Matto, and her beloved nephew and godson, Gerald N. Murphy. Honeoye: June 19, 2018, at age 60 years. Survived by her husband David, and daughter; Misty (Dennis) Sanders-Kuhn. Grandchildren Logan and Emma. Meretta Connors was born in Pikeville, Pike County, Kentucky on May 3, 1958 to the late Perry Layne and Melda Smith Layne of Kimper, Kentucky. She graduated from Pikeville High School in 1976. She met and married the love of her life David Connors, David was a doting husband and loving father to Misty.

Meretta and Misty moved to Honeoye, New York. Though it was a huge change from Kentucky to New York, and she missed her family greatly; she found comfort in being a stay at home Mom. Misty was born to Meretta and she told her little daughter she was a gift from God as a result of her many prayers. Misty even had the brown hair and blue eyes prayed for. This baby girl grew into the wonderful, loving, compassionate young woman she is today from the example set by her Mom. Misty gave Meretta two beautiful grand babies, Logan and Emma whom she loved dearly. They are the love of her life. Granny Meretta, first called this by her grand baby boy Logan became known as Granny to many in the community.

Meretta truly loved all the students in Honeoye Central. She was involved in many activities in the school, including fundraising, plays, chaperoning dances, buying lunches for many or just an ice cream. She held a variety of jobs both in Kentucky and New York. The job Meretta enjoyed most was caring for children she babysat. She was also employed by Pikeville Methodist Hospital and retired from Honeoye Central School in 2013.

Meretta allowed the Love of God to shine through her to everyone she met and she will be forever missed.

Services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, 8624 Main Street, Rt 20A Honeoye, New York, 14471. Marge was born on April 21, 1939 in Scottsville, NY. She attended Wheatland-Chili Central School District and later worked as a key punch operator at Gleason Works where she met her future husband Richard. They married on May 24, 1958 and spent the last 60 years together. Marge was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed golf, bowling, and travel. Marge supported her husband in relocating to several states until they settled in Massachusetts where he became self employed. Upon returning to New York Marge was secretary of the Scottsville Rotary Club and with her husband established a tutoring and literacy project at the State School of Industry, Rush, NY. She was also a member of the Rush United Methodist Church for many years and participated in several mission ministries.

She married Gary in 1968 and lived in Spencerport for five years before moving to Henrietta to start a family. She taught at various catholic grammar schools and held several jobs in retail, tax preparation with H & R Block, and the home health care industry. In 2011 she moved out to Livonia to live close to her local son and his family. She enjoyed pleasant afternoons on her deck watching the deer scamper through the yard and her grandchildren play across the street. Kris was dearly loved and will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her warm smile, big heart, and the way she brightened her family and friends’ lives will be greatly missed.

Avon/Caledonia: Bill passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on June 11, 2018 at age 74. Predeceased by his parents William and Margaret (Gates) Smith, his sisters; Joan (Donald) Grossman and Kathleen (Dean) Bertch, and nephew Douglas Grossman. Survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Frances Zornow Smith and children; Theodore (Marc Ellis Holland) Smith, Emily (Shawn) Van Dusen, Catherine Smith, and Margaret (David) Putman; grandchildren, Matthew Putman, Evelyn and Elinor Van Dusen. Also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces & nephews.

After graduating from Gettysburg College (BA History) and SUNY Geneseo (Masters in Education), Bill enlisted in the US Navy, serving four years during the Vietnam War and receiving an honorable discharge. He married Frances E. Zornow on July 12, 1969. Bill taught for 32 years at Mount Morris Central School, where he retired from. He enjoyed gardening, travel (spending trips with Fran rambling around Ireland and the British Isles), and vacationing with his family. Bill was also an avid reader and bird watcher, always putting out multiple feeders which brought the yard to life. He greatly treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren as the family grew.

Livonia: Sara passed unexpectedly on June 6, 2018 at age 20. Survived by her loving parents Chris and Mary (Deragon) Smith and her sisters; Rachel Smith of Chatham, MA and Andrea Smith at home; grandparents, Gerald and Patti Smith of Geneseo, Josephine Deragon of Geneseo, and Elias Deragon of Nicholville, NY. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, her Minnehan’s Family, and her beloved pets.

Sara was born on January 30, 1998 in Rochester, NY to parents Chris and Mary Smith. She attended Livonia High School and the Niagara Culinary Institute. She was a passionate dancer, athlete, and loved to shop for her family & friends. Sara enjoyed cooking and working at Minnehan’s in Lakeville where she made many friends over the years. Her family will always remember her smile, her special 5 course meal served on New Years Eve and her kind & generous heart.

Webster/Old Forge: Peacefully on June 4, 2018 at age 99. Predeceased by her husband Richard P. Achter and her brother August Albregts. Survived by children; Judy Kanada of Victor, Joyce (Ron) Leszyk of Old Forge, and Richard (Jane) Achter of Honeoye; grandchildren, Kim (Eric) Graff, Kelly Kanada, Sean (Kerri) Kanada, Kathy (Don) Mekeel, Peter (Linda) Leszyk, Greg (Molly) Leszyk, Robert (Jen) Leszyk, Kevin (Katie) Achter and Christopher (Melinda) Achter; great-grandchildren, Madeline, Aedan, Keegan, Colin, Joseph, Isabel, August, Caele and Annabel.

Alice was born on September 8, 1918 in Rochester, NY to parents Peter and Catharina (Nijssen) Albregts. She graduated from Mercy High School in Rochester. She married Richard P. Achter on October 11, 1941 and they were married for over 60 years. They resided in Webster, NY for many years and in retirement they moved to Old Forge where they enjoyed snowmobiling and boating for over 20 years. Alice moved back to the area in 2016 and resided in Honeoye spending time with family. Alice loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Interment will be held privately at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rochester, NY. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 8, 2018 which would have been Alice’s 100th birthday. Henrietta/Hemlock: Janet passed peacefully on June 2, 2018 at age 68. Predeceased by her parents Robert & Ruth Mallory and her sister Susan Mallory. Survived by her brother Paul Mallory of Honeoye Falls and her nephews; Barry Bihrle of Henrietta & Robert (Dalila) McKay of CA, and her great-niece Dominique. Also survived by several other loving family members and friends.
