He then went on to be the director of Camp Stella Maris for 20+ years, where he met many beloved people, including his wife, Joan. Ray dedicated 17 years to the Livonia volunteer ambulance. In his later years, there was nothing Ray loved more than his role as Master Carpenter for the Livonia Middle and High School Theater program. Alexander Jacob Recchio – October 7, 2023

Huningtown, MD: At age 36, Alex passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2023. He was born on September 22, 1987 in Rochester, NY to Philip and Sandra (Stockslader) Recchio. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter Leila Rose; brothers Philip (Nicki) Recchio, Gabriel Recchio; sister, Melissa Glenn; grandmother, Carol Stockslader; uncle Fred (Diana) Recchio, Michael (Patty) Stockslader; aunt Susan Smelt (John Ahlman), aunt Anita (Kyle) Addy; nieces Avielle and Mira; Leila’s mother, Alyssa Thomas, along many other dear friends and extended family. Grandparents, Fred (Olga) Recchio and Albert Stockslader predeceased him.

Alex attended Livonia High School, class of 2005. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Culture and Communication at Ithaca College. Alex worked at the Conesus Inn during his high school and college years and succeeded in various technology sales roles throughout his career.

A voracious reader, Alex was a standout student and loved Hemingway, Vonnegut, and fantasy fiction like The Wheel of Time and Harry Potter. He was built like an Italian god – a fierce competitor playing hockey, football, and varsity soccer and lacrosse. He loved to talk so much his daughter says he has a “Masters degree in chatter boxing”, and he was dynamic and engaging wherever he went. He shared his musical skills on stage singing a solo during Livonia High’s rendition of The Music Man and delivered a howling performance as the Wolf from Into the Woods. A friend to all, his fire-engine red, mop-top of curly hair could be seen from a mile away, and his booming voice always let you know fun times were approaching. He was a lifelong Buffalo Bills fan, a David Lynch and Twin Peaks aficionado, and a pop-culture encyclopedia. He was passionate about social progress and was enthusiastic yet critical of dominant power structures. As any Bills fan can relate, Alex was not a stranger to suffering. Over the years, like many of his generation, he battled the insidious disease of addiction. He was an advocate for the harm reduction movement and he inspired others to see beyond harmful stereotypes and be of service to people suffering from addiction instead.

Family and friends may call on Friday, October 20th, from 4pm – 7pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 15 & 20A, Livonia, NY.
Alex’s Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, October 21st, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 6591 Richmond Mills Road, Rte 20A, Livonia, NY. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Livonia.
