Wadsworth: At age 91, Betty passed peacefully on March 8, 2023 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born on August 11, 1931 in Canandaigua, NY, to the late L. Burr and Rita (Folts) Scott.
Betty was a graduate of Wayland Central School and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Geneseo, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1958, and began her teaching career at Leicester School soon thereafter. She went on to teach multiple grade levels at York Central Elementary School for over 30 years. She also enjoyed sports and coached high school girls’ soccer and track for many years.
Betty enjoyed swimming in her pool, sipping a cup of tea, playing the piano, listening to classical music, watching old movies, and most importantly having a good book to read. Her happiest times were her visits to the family cottage at her beloved Sharbot Lake, Ontario, Canada.
Betty was a member of the SUNY Alumni Association, Kappa Delta Pi, Geneseo Methodist Church, and her local book club. She also donated her time to the Teresa House, a cause dear to her heart, and taught Vacation Bible School at the Covington Presbyterian Church. She loved her family, was very proud of her grandchildren, and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert W. Parsons and her dear cousin, Muriel Shetler. Survived by her sons, Michael (Terri) Parsons, Douglas Parsons, and Aaron (Vickie) Parsons; grandchildren, Nick (Amanda) Parsons, Casey Parsons, Sarah (Matthew) Durbin, Michael R. Parsons (John Ingle), Katie Parsons (Kyle Coffey); great-grandchildren, Mason, Brianna, and Cole Parsons and Jack and Anna Durbin’ half-siblings, Patricia Fitzpatrick and Ian Scott.
