Springwater, NY: Doug was born in Rochester, New York on January 30th, 1962 to S. Edward and Lois Hatch. Doug passed away at age 60 on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at his home in Springwater, after a long and valiant struggle with Multiple Systems Atrophy (MSA). Doug worked at Kodak for 25 years and retired from the Rochester Water Bureau at Hemlock Lake.
Doug’s love for the outdoors inspired his many epic adventures starting with a cross country bicycle trip, at age 18, from Rush, NY to Colorado. Hunting on horseback in the Rocky Mountains was an incredible gift. His 2014 solo summit of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park was a true accomplishment. He enjoyed downhill skiing, cycling, playing tennis, hunting, stargazing, riding his 1988 BMW motorcycle, and especially car picnics and bird watching with his grandchildren.
Doug was a loyal, loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He was a generous man with an adventurous and courageous spirit. He was always quick to help his family and friends, with so many recipients of his selfless acts of kindness. Doug was proud of his projects at home, including crafting cedar strip canoes, constructing bluestone creations, building the family horse barn, and being our BBQ superhero. He was a gentleman, master craftsman, and true friend.
Doug’s kind, considerate, reliable character was cherished by friends and family alike. His smile and sense of humor could easily light up the room. He had a heart of gold, was extremely loved, and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Kitty K. Hatch; his parents S. Edward and Lois Hatch; his daughters, Kala (Tyler Nagel) Stein and Jessica (Timothy) Lynah; his grandchildren, Avaleigh and Casey Lynah; his siblings, Barry (Annette) Hatch, David (Maria) Hatch, Carol (Kevin Magde) Hatch, and Cheryl Hatch (Frank Johnson); his niece, Deidre (Oscar) Quezada and his nephew, Christopher (Samantha) Basil, and his grandnephews, Joel Dwyer and Joshua Quezada.
In keeping with Doug’s wishes, friends and family are invited to a celebration of life gathering at 12PM on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Hemlock Lake Park, 7412 Rix Hill Road in Hemlock, NY.
