Caledonia-York: AT the age of 68, Russ passed peacefully on March 4, 2023 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. He was born on November 29, 1954 in Batavia, NY to the late Fred and Dorothy (Wicket) Welsby. Predeceased by his sister Marilyn Welsby. He is survived by his children; Jennifer MacIntyre of Livonia, Stacey Welsby of Lakeville, Derek (Sarah) Welsby of Dansville, grandchildren; Shaelyn and Gavyn MacIntyre and Alexis Welsby, sisters; Denise Taylor and Nancy McArthur, mother of his children and dear friend Darlene (Stella) Welsby, along with several nieces and nephews and his dearest companion Pedro.
Russ graduated from Cal-Mum High School. He worked at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY as a truck driver until his retirement. Russ raised his family in Greigsville, NY where he loved to fish and hunt. His favorite fishing spot was Hemlock Lake.
A celebration of life will be held on March 25th, 2023 at the York Sportsman’s Club, 2883 Craig Road, Piffard, NY 14533 at 1:00pm. Uncle Russell sure did provide many memories over the years. My favorite is how he chewed me out because I found the six pack of beer in the spring out back and dumped it all out. What was I to know a that age, I thought it was spoiled!

I remember back a few years. Russ and I enter the a fishing tournament on Lake Ontario. One beautiful morning the lake was calm and sun was out. We fish in front of Green Harbor Campground. We were fishing for salmons and they were biting. We catch about 27 salmons that morning. His favorite lure was green and silver and he would always say. Boy!! this is the greatest lure. Throw the rest away. I always remember him saying Boy!!! to me and telling me a story. Great friend and a great fishing buddy. He will be miss. My condolences to the family
My condolences to the family. I’ve only known Russell(Russ) for about 7 years but I will miss his calls for sure. I will never forget my first call from him when I started the firm that deep voice. I had just started and didn’t know the answer to his question. I thought for sure he was going to be mad but he was like “aw heck call me when you figure it out”. When I called him back right away with the answer he said “well how the heck did ya figure that out so fast”. From that day our conversation went into so many different things from his childhood , children, politics, camper, Florida…etc I think we covered every topic over the years.
Behind that deep voice was a big teddy bear!
We talked very often and even though I told him he didn’t need to address himself when he called because I knew that deep voice right away he still did religiously for 7 yrs lol. I’m going to miss our conversations and hearing his voice. It was an honor to have known him. May he Rest In Peace
As a neighbor of Russ when we were young (15ish!)all us neighborhood kids would get together and play sand lot football.those were the days Russ. A lot of fun.RIP Russ.

One of my fun memories as a young adult is coming over to the house in Greigsville for Saturday morning coffee. We’d all sit around the table, you, Dar, Mom & I, sometimes Chip & Barb, Rosie & Ronnie and we’d have coffee and chat!
Or maybe the time going to FL, you turned the wrong way and did a U-turn and drove back on the wrong side of the road on the shoulder and told us to follow, that was quite the experience!
So many memories…………….
