Sandra B. Stone ~ May 13, 2023

Naples: Sandy passed away on May 13, 2023 at age 79, at home with her family by her side. Born on July 19, 1943 in Watertown, NY to Rev. Willard and Esther Barber, Sandy was predeceased by her grandchild Grant Stone. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Alan Stone; daughter Teri (Gary) Gedart; sons Timothy Stone and Michael (Alana Fuierer) Stone; grandchildren Anne Marie and Kalley Wilkie, Emily Davies, and Henry, William, Owen, Hope, Ethann and Adelynn Stone; great-grandchildren Harlow Belille and Evren Davies; brother David Barber; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Sandy had a very eventful life, but was challenged early at age seven with polio. She decided then to become a nurse and follow in the footsteps of the hospital staff who had cared for her. After graduating from Ogdensburg High School, she joined the nursing program at Highland Hospital and earned a certificate as a Registered Professional Nurse. In 1964, after marrying Alan, she was employed full time at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. As responsibilities for Teri, Tim and Mike increased, her career commitment evolved to part-time. Then as she scaled back her nursing duties while raising her children, she remained a “lifetime nurse” who was always on call for friends, family and humanity. Once, she was recognized by Delta Airlines for taking quick action to save an unresponsive infant on her flight.

A consummate outdoor enthusiast, Sandy traveled the world with Alan to hunt, fish, camp and explore nature with indigenous people. No matter the journey, people were quick to recognize and appreciate her energy, kindness and ability to work side by side with different cultures.

Sandy took pleasure in decorating her home and bringing her surroundings to life with flowers and landscaping, as well as sharing her talents for cooking, knitting and sewing with others. In the early days of the pandemic when masks were scarce, she produced many handmade masks for friends and the local doctor’s office. She also donated numerous knitted hats to local children in need.

Sandy was also active in team sports throughout most of her life, playing for many years with the Honeoye women’s softball league and enjoying volleyball, bowling, and doubles tennis. She also loved attending plays, especially when grandchildren were performing; and always took delight in watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports like basketball, soccer, lacrosse, football, volleyball and tennis.

In recent years, she served as a volunteer on the Advisory Board of the Finger Lakes Area Community Endowment at Canandaigua National Bank, helping to facilitate charitable giving in the region. Her commitment to looking out for others built a strong foundation for teamwork in her family’s numerous business and philanthropic endeavors.

Sandy will always be remembered for her zest for life, skillful pursuit of the many passions that brought her joy, and deep caring for all those around her – family, friends and community.

A private family service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Honeoye, NY.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy’s memory may be made to: Hospeace House, P.O. Box 343, Naples NY, 14512.

Linda was raised in Rochester but would spend many summers going back and forth to Lakeville, NY, where she made many memories with her best friend, Rene Nichols (Pauline).  Although their families knew each other for years, it wasn’t until one summer in high school that Doug Nichols stole his baby sister’s best friend. Rene, of course, gave her blessing for her best friend to date her older brother. Linda graduated from Livonia Central High School in 1978.  Doug and Linda would go on to marry on August 2, 1980.

Linda and Doug lived in the areas of Lima, Lakeville, and Conesus, New York. It was in Conesus where Linda and Doug would start to raise their three children; Arthur Russell, Matthew Clay, and Philip Walter.  In October of 1996, Linda and Douglas made the choice to move out West to provide more opportunities for their children. Doug and Linda raised their three boys in Round Mountain, Nevada.  For many years, Linda worked for Round Mountain Gold as a Custodial Supervisor. After her boys moved away and started having children of their own, Linda knew she needed to be a part of her grandchildren’s lives.  In 2009, Linda and Doug moved to Carlin, Nevada to be closer to their grandchildren.  Linda loved being a stay-at-home grandmother.  Of all the jobs Linda had, being a grandmother was her favorite.  Linda’s grandchildren were everything to her, and she never passed up an opportunity to care for them.  When Linda wasn’t spending time with her grandchildren, she was busy making the house in Carlin a home for Doug. Linda loved watching her favorite TLC television shows, planting flowers in her garden, and hosting family gatherings. Linda loved the simple things in life and never missed a chance to hang out with her family and friends.

Linda is preceded in death by her dad, Arthur Simpson; mother, Lorraine Simpson; sister, Robin Simpson; and brother, Robert Simpson.  Linda is survived by her husband Doug; sons, Arthur (Kassie) Nichols, Matthew (Taylor) Nichols, and Philip (Kristen) Nichols; three grandchildren, Karli, Blane, and Finley; sister, Bonnie (Brad) Braun; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
