Honeoye, NY:  At age 52, Tanya passed on June 8, 2024, as peacefully and gracefully as she did everything else, at Light Hill Comfort Care Home in Canandaigua, NY.  She was born on May 9, 1972 to parents Robert and Diane (Ketchum) Kellogg.  Tanya was predeceased by her mother Diane Kellogg.  Survived by her husband Mark Olsen and children; Friend (Amanda) Olsen of Victor, Quinn Olsen of Fredonia, Jewel Olsen of Honeoye, and Zara Olsen of Honeoye.  Also survived by her father Robert Kellogg, many cousins, and friends.

Tanya’s disdain for monotony led to a myriad of professions. From graphic designer to library manager, through stay at home mom, goat farming, and venturing off into the world of teaching, she was always a catalyst for change. Willing to reinvent herself at every turn, she taught all grade levels at different points during her career at several schools in the Finger Lakes region. The art classes she led were her way of inspiring creativity within every child. 

She brought her love of nature to everything she did. Her graphic design style, outdoor hobbies and even her teaching reflected a synergy between her life and the natural world.

Honeoye: At age 88, Stanley passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born at his childhood home in Honeoye on May 11, 1936, to the late J. Raymond and Mable (Belcher) Proctor. Stanley is survived by his very close friends Matthew Crane, Cathy Crane, Joshua Crane, Nathan Crane, Zachery Brown, Macie, and Allona Zulfelt. Although Stanely was an only child he is survived by many extended family members.

A graveside service will be held on June 21st, at 11 AM at the Lakeview Cemetery, West Lake Road, Honeoye where Stanley will receive full military honors. Honeoye:  At age 83, Janice died suddenly on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at her home in Honeoye.  She was born in Oneida, NY to the late Henry and Alberta Gilbert.  Survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Stephen B. Ashley; her children, Jonathan (Paula) Ashley, Leeson Ashley, Jillian (Randall) Ashley-Martin; her siblings, John (Connie) Gilbert and Judy Gilbert, her grandchildren, Quintin Ashley, Hayden Ashley, Wyatt Ashley, Maya Ashley-Martin, and Sophia Ashley-Martin; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.  As our matriarch, she will be missed by all.

Janice had endless energy for her community. Her involvements included trustee emeritus with the Genesee Country Museum, founding trustee and president of the Honeoye Historical Society, former trustee of the Crestwood Children’s Home, and board member of the State University of Oneonta Alumni Association and provided funds to the migrant student program at State University of Oneonta.  Together with her husband, they provided support to the George Eastman Museum and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.

Janice was a strong advocate for local and regional history, human services with a particular focus on children and young women, and the affordability needs of college students. Her rural life manifested itself in her love of gardening, wildflowers, and birds. She hiked frequently in the beautiful lakes in our home area and in the Green Mountains surrounding her home in Stowe, Vermont.

Riverview, FL/Conesus, NY: Ruthie Nettnin, 71, of Riverview, FL, passed away peacefully in Florida on June 5 surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer.

Ruthie was born in Conesus, NY,  she graduated from Livonia Central School in 1971, worked at Kodak, and moved to Florida in 1986 with her young family.  She retired from the law firm of Holland & Knight in 2015.

Ruthie never met a stranger she didn’t like.  She was the most thoughtful and caring person.  It brought her joy to bake cakes (her red velvet cake and rum cakes were favorites) and sweets for everyone she loved.  She loved giving her “Ruthie’s Originals” jewelry to all her friends and family.  Anyone who bought a new outfit got a bracelet or necklace or earrings to go with it.

Ruthie is survived by her loving husband of 52 years Fred, two beautiful daughters: Candy (Curt) Gilley of Plant City, FL, Amy (Chris) Parsels of Lake Thonotosassa, FL, her amazing grandchildren Justin Gilley, Austin Gilley, Kaylee(Jordon) Wetherington, Sierra Parsels and Cameron Parsels; and her two precious great-grandchildren Harper and Luke Wetherington, all in Florida.  Survived also by her sisters Marie (John) Henry, Becky Nau, Carol (Steve) Nichols, Margaret (Floyd) Watkins, Laura (Ken) Schoonover, her brother Robert (Bobbie Jo) Mulvaney, her sister-in-law Nancy Mulvaney, her brothers-in-law John (Marie) Nettnin and Jerry Nettnin; and by many special nieces and nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Shirley Mulvaney and her brother Daniel Mulvaney II.

Chapel Hill, NC: At age 80, Cynthia passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Transitions LifeCare, Raleigh, NC. She was born on July 28, 1943, in Rochester, NY to the late Anthony L. and Mary Jane Ippolito.  Cynthia is predeceased by her beloved husband, James W. Black. Cindy was a graduate of Nazareth College, and she shared her love of music teaching and playing piano and the accordion. Livonia: Rocky A. Lakey went to be with The Lord on May 28th, 2024, passing away unexpectedly at home, at age  65. Rocky was born on November 9, 1958, to the late Larry and Carolyn Lakey.  He is survived by his loving wife Margaret J. Lakey, his partner of 10 years. Rocky was the proud father of 4 wonderful children, Jessica, Rocky T, Nicole, and Robert, step-son, Joe Lynch, brother, Tim Lakey, brother-in-law, Jim (Diane) Clarke, sister-in-law’s, Sue (Bob) Thyer, Ellen Clarke, Linda (Ted) Lidsner, and Mary (Gary) Poprawski, several grandchildren, nieces, nephews as well as many friends.

Just weeks ago, Rocky was looking forward to his favorite Bob Dylan song at the Dylan Tribute at Avon’s Park Theatre. Sure enough, a wonderful version of Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door made Rocky’s night.. He liked to share his time with Margaret and friends going to yard sales, penny socials, meat and basket raffles, playing cards, and dice with friends. Rocky and Margaret did everything together.

Rocky worked at Shawndra Products of Lima in Shipping and Receiving for approximately 16 years, having just recently retired. Margaret also works for Shawndra Products and that is where they met and recently were married after dating for over 10 years.

Livonia: At age 93, Gilbert passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mount Morris. He was born on October 30, 1930, to the late Earl and Emma (London) Sherman. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Sally, brother Jerry Sherman, and his sister Joyce Bertini. Gil is survived by his nephews Bob Sherman, Dan Sherman, and niece Karen Sherman as well as other nephews and nieces. His good friends, Kevin Fitzgibbon and Al Taylor.

Gil worked for 30-plus years at Koerner Ford in Henrietta as a mechanic. After his retirement, he continued to do car repair in his shop as a hobby helping friends and those who asked. He went on to obtain his CDL-A license and would drive for a friend as an over-the-road truck driver, which he truly enjoyed, allowing him to see the country.

In the 1970s and 80s, Gil owned his own stock car and would race at the Canandaigua Dirt Track when he was not driving a tractor-trailer. Gil also raised and showed bloodhounds for over 25 years, winning numerous ribbons and awards. His bloodhound “Yodi” was his companion and was often seen with him.

Honeoye: At age 93, Shirley passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the MM Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua, NY. She was born on July 25, 1930, to the late Gilbert and Florence Alexander. Shirley is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Roger Ward. Survived by her children, Heather (Dr. Mario) Malvarosa, Holly (Gary) Warren, Roger H. (Julie) Ward, and Hugh (Jill) Ward; her grandchildren, Paul (Jessica) Malvarosa, Joelle Gray, Audrey (Matt) Hall, Kiersten (Jeremy Battiyanni) Bendzlowicz, Nathaniel Ward (Jenny Straton), Jason (Aryanne) Ward; and her great-grandchildren, Avery, Collin, Willow, and Colt, along with several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Shirley was a piano teacher by profession, having taught for more than 75 years. She also was a Musician for the Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was a member for over 70 years. She shared her gift of music for many churches, weddings, and funerals. She was the director and musician for the Eagle Star Singers, who performed for many Eastern Star Functions. Shirley was a proud member of the House of Gordon, USA, and the Rochester Scottish Heritage Society. She loved to go the Scottish Games, especially Central New York Scottish Games which she attended for more than 50 years. Shirley was an avid bridge player. She was also an animal lover, especially dogs. Her favorite breed was the German Shepard.

Shirley touched many lives throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

He was born at Genesee Hospital in Rochester, NY, and proudly lived his entire life in Honeoye, NY. Gene was predeceased by his parents William and Thelma (Scott) Koehnlein and brother Gary Koehnlein. He is survived by his brothers Gregory Koehnlein of Honeoye, NY, and Glen Koehnlein of Nokomis, FL, wife Linda (Wood) Koehnlein, son Casey Koehnlein, daughter-in-law Jennifer (Richardson) Koehnlein and grandson Charles J. Koehnlein of Honeoye, NY, and daughter Jamie (Koehnlein) Connor, son-in-law Stephen Connor, and granddaughters Tilly Mae Connor and Georgia Kathleen Connor of Woodbury, VT.

In Gene’s early life, he enjoyed mischief-making and competing in sports with his three brothers. He liked driving fast cars, running and fixing machines large and small, and living lake life to the fullest. He was a student of Honeoye Central School and SUNY Oswego and a man of many trades and talents. He was a teacher of industrial arts, owner of G & G Sawdust, estimator for Hoffends & Sons, property developer, Richmond Town Supervisor, and beloved caretaker and owner of Old Mill Manor Senior Living.

Gene and his loving wife Linda stood side by side for 52 years of marriage, through every season of life. They traveled the globe as a young couple, raised their two children, and attended countless basketball, tennis, and soccer games as Honeoye Bulldog and UVM Catamount super fans. Together they loyally supported their own parents through the challenging late stages of life.

So often, Gene was referred to as “the man with kind eyes.” He was a trusted face to babies and puppies alike. He fiercely loved his three grandchildren, helped his son and daughter with their home projects and car maintenance, and actively worked to keep a perfectly manicured lawn. He enjoyed golfing with his buddies, and though a humble man, he took great pride in his recent hole-in-one triumph. His brother Greg described him as the “titan of the family,” and his steady demeanor and sense of calm in any calamity will be missed most of all.

Honeoye / Newark: William (Bill) F. Bouwens received his promotion May 19, 2024, at Strong Memorial Hospital. Born July 24, 1932, in Newark, New York. He passed with loving family members around him. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Luella Bouwens; wife, Nancy Wallace Bouwens; sister Maude (Frank) Finch; two brothers, Jacob Bouwens & Robert Bouwens and wife Dee; and grandson, Brian Bouwens. He is survived by his wife of 20 years Joline (DeCook) Bouwens; four sons, Randy (Judy), David (Julie), Mark (Kyle), and James (Christina); seven grandchildren; sister-in-law Sue Bouwens; brother-in-law Donald Wallace; sister-in-law Karen Wallace; stepson George (Mary) DeCook; stepdaughter Susan Tandle; and sister-in-law, Nancy (James) DiMatteo; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Bill graduated from Newark High School in Newark, New York.  He served in the U.S. Army and became a member of the American Legion.

He attended business school and worked for C.H. Stuart Corporation in Newark. In 1958 he married Nancy Wallace Bouwens and raised four sons in Phelps, New York.  He moved his family to Lauderhill, Florida in 1971 where he was promoted to Executive Vice President for Aquasport boats. In 1980, he moved to Orange City, Florida where he owned a Western Auto Hardware store.  In the mid-1980’s, he owned and operated a transportation company until retirement.

Bill had a deep and abiding faith in God which sustained him and blessed his family and friends. Throughout his life, he was an active member of the Plantation United Methodist Church, Florida; DeBary Methodist Church, Florida; and the Methodist Church in Canadice, New York.  During his tenure with the church, he regularly served on leadership committees and sang in the choir.

He actively supported his sons’ high school years by participating in the leadership of the Piper High School Band Parents Association in Sunrise, Florida.

In 2003, he married Joline DeCook.  They lived peacefully together in the Finger Lakes area.

He loved playing Pinochle, which is what he was doing at the time of his passing and enjoyed hunting, camping, boating, fishing, fast cars, watching his sons perform music together, a good drink with loved ones and friends, and listening to and telling humorous stories.  He was also commonly quick with a joke. Our family thanks the 1^st responders’ heroic efforts to save him.

He was beloved and will be missed by everyone.

Bill’s funeral service will be held at the Canadice United Methodist Church 5945 Canadice Hill Rd., Springwater, NY. at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 1^st, 2024. Military Honors will be held after the service. A reception for all who wish to attend and pay their respects, and share stories with family and friends of a life well lived will take place at the conclusion of honors. An internment service at the DeBary Methodist Church, Florida will follow at a later date.

Arkport: At age 78, Ed passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mount Morris. He was born on August 25, 1945, in Elmira, NY.  He was the son of the late Louis and Margaret (Leven) Lawrence. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepson Robert S. Minemier lll; parents-in-law Warren and Cora Mae May; brothers-in-law Cameron R. May and Jason W. Dobbs; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Ed is survived by his wife Penelope ‘Penny’ (May/Minemier) Lawrence; son Jacob (Marissa) Lawrence, stepdaughter-in-law Dawn (Powell) Minemier; brother, Joseph Lawrence. In addition, he is survived by his sisters-in-law Wanona Dobbs and Mahogany May, and brother-in-law Father William May, grandchildren, Maria and Lara Minemier, Lainey and Weston Lawrence, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Ed was a 1963 graduate of Dansville Central School. He joined the U.S. National Guard Infantry and Tank Unit as a Specialist 4th class and was honorably discharged in 1968. Ed’s work career began with the Agway Farm Co-op in Hornell, NY (1964-1968), transitioning to the Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. in Dansville, NY where he was a welder (1968-2003). At the closing of Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. Ed was able to earn his CDL-A license through BOCES in Mt. Morris (2003). This allowed him to continue working for UAP in Avon (April-October 2004), Sweetener Plus out of Wayland, and finally working for the town of Dansville Highway Department until he retired. In his younger years, Ed was a member of the South Dansville Volunteer Fire Department and served as Town Assessor. Ed was a farmer at heart and in his youth was a 4-H participant and a Future Farmer of America (FFA) member in high school. Ed took different livestock to local fairs and worked for and with local farmers. He spent a good many years raising white-faced Herefords as an avocation.

Hemlock: At age 67, Mark passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024, at his home in Hemlock. He was born on September 20, 1956, to the late George and Madeline (Kruger) Hess. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law Christine Hess. Mark is survived by his partner of 18 years, Carol Tedesco, and daughters Sara (John) Ciulla of Avon, NY, Michele (Dani Fregon) Hess of Brooklyn, NY, brother Dean Hess, grandchildren, Alexandria, John, and Eloise, niece, Laura (Cal) Hayward and nephew, Evan Hess. 

Mark grew up on the family farm in Hamlin, NY. In his youth he participated in the F.F.A and worked for his uncle Norm on the dairy farm, further cultivating his passion for animals and skills. Upon graduating from Hilton High School, he went on to graduate Farrier School in Sperry Oklahoma. In early adulthood, he was a team roper in rodeos and met Joel Cohen, his dear friend and employer of many years. He worked as a beloved farrier, skilled horseman, and horse farm manager for over 40 years, where he met countless lifelong friends. He was the best father, papa, and friend, anyone could ever ask for. Mark had the biggest heart and was always there for us all: to listen, lend a hand, or just make you smile. He was a humble man who worked hard and loved his family, friends, animals, family Rotties, Ava & Otto, and the horses. He had many passions including riding, gardening, reading, fishing and you can’t forget food!! A passion he shared with his daughters and many others. It was a blessing to have had him in our lives. He will be sorely missed, yet dearly remembered, by all. Till’ we meet again-

Brighton: Margaret Blair Lynn unexpectedly passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 9th, at the age of 74. Margaret was pre-deceased by her parents Reginald and Irene (Fletcher) Lynn, brother, Reggie and sister-in-law, Mary, her sister Joanne, and her brother-in-law, Roger Schwing. She is survived by her sister Donna Schwing, her nieces Joanne, Kimberly, and Kelly, her nephew, Christopher, and several great nieces and nephews.

She is remembered for her love of travel, a great sense of humor and dry wit. She is remembered fondly and lovingly by her close-knit circle of friends.

Lakeville, NY:  At age 87, James “Jim” West passed peacefully on May 7, 2024 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY.  He was born on May 22, 1936 in Rochester, NY to the late Samuel and Josephine (Vallone) West.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Sybil (Guenther) West and siblings, Ann Nesbitt, Frank West, and Anthony “Bud” West.  Survived by his children, James (Linda) West Jr. of Fairport, Edward (Dana) West of Prescott, AZ, and Patricia (David) Zielinski of Aliso Viejo, CA; grandchildren, Jessica West, Edward West Jr., James “Trey” West III, Noelle Zielinski, and Claire Zielinski; brothers-in-law, Francis “Fritz” Guenther, Michael (Rhonda) Guenther and Tom (Pat) Guenther; also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends in the Livonia Community.

After graduating from Livonia High School, Jim studied Photographic Science at Rochester Institute of Technology earning his Bachelor’s Degree. He served in the US Army and was on active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He also served his community in Fairport, NY as a volunteer firefighter in the Bushnell Basin Fire Department and as a Boy Scout Leader. Jim enjoyed a 32-year career at Eastman Kodak that took him and the family from Rochester to Southern California where he was a District Manager. His Kodak career peaked when he was named Service Manager and V.P. for the European Region which was an exciting time for him and Sybil moving to London.

After returning to the states and retiring, they spent several years in San Diego, California, Tucson Arizona and Northern Virginia. When Jim found himself alone after Sybil passed, he became very active in the Knights of Columbus. He answered his sister-in law Dorothy’s call and moved back home to lead the family business. Here he reunited with his brother Bud and became very active in Livonia Rotary and Hemlock Fair. He was also able to spend time with his big Sister Ann whom he had always been close with. Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Geneseo became his second home. He was active on Parish Council, Men’s Club and Finance Committee. He loved his time on the water at his home on Conesus Lake.

Jim was a loving leader in his family and extended family where many came to him for thoughts and advice. He never missed events to support his children, their spouses, or grandchildren. Friends in all the organizations were greeted with a smile and he truly wished the best for them. He was described as a “great guy” by those who knew him.

Newark, NY:  At age 82, Terry passed peacefully at his home on May 5, 2024.  He was born on August 15, 1941 in North Tonawanda, NY to the late Walter and Joan (Burgler) Krause.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife MaryAnn (Dunn) Krause, and his brother Keith Krause.  Survived by his children;  Mark Krause of Lyons and Katherine Krause of Newark; siblings, Brian (Wendy) Krause of Livonia and Karen Jean (Dave) Shattuck of Wolcott.  Also survived by close friends Ann Davis and her son Scott Davis; nieces, nephews, cousins, and community friends.

Terry was a friend to many and enjoyed the company of people.  He was always busy helping others; kind, gracious and generous. He had many friends among the Amish community in Wayne County.  He was an active member of the Lyons Methodist Church, and worked at the Lyons Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels.   

Terry served in the US Navy, 1960 to 1964 learning the electrical trade.  He saw Europe, the Middle East and participated in the Cuban Missile Crisis and served aboard the aircraft carriers USS Essex and USS Enterprise.   He was a 50 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 86 and worked on major projects such as the War Memorial, many Wegmans stores, Ginna and Nile Mile Point Nuclear Power Plants.

Conesus Lake: At age 77, almost 78, John ‘Jack’ passed away with his family by his side on Friday, May 3, 2024, at St. John’s Home in Rochester, NY. ‘Jack’ was born on July 14, 1946, in Rochester, NY to the late John E. Illes and Margaret Nelson (Wendelgass). In addition, to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Illes. Survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Catherine (Rogers) Illes, his sister, Kathy (Illes) Windhauser, brothers-in-law John (Joyce) Rogers, Lawrence (Mary Jane) Rogers, Paul (Susan) Rogers, and sister-in-law Deborah Illes. As well as nieces and nephews, Thomas Windhauser, Sheri Blackmore (Windhauser), Ian Rogers, Justin Illes, Keith Illes, Alex Illes, Christian Illes, Erin Rogers, Shaun Rogers, Lindsay Magro (Rogers), Lisa Rogers, Emily Rogers, and Sophia Rogers. Also survived by several great-nieces, nephews, and friends.

John was affectionately known to his family and friends as ‘Jack.’ He worked as a machinist at Kayex Corporation for over 40 years. He lived in West Irondequoit for over 25 years and retired to Conesus Lake NY in 2000.

He served as an active firefighter with the St. Paul Blvd Fire Department in West Irondequoit NY, from 1977-1993. He served as a Fire Commissioner for the Lakeville Fire District from 2008-2024, he served as Chair, Head, and Board of Commissioners from 2014-2024. John ‘Jack’ joined the Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department as a social member in 2012.

For several years he served as a representative for the Conesus Lake Association.

John ‘Jack’ enjoyed spending time with his wife, family, and close friends. He volunteered at Bingo at the Lakeville Fire Department every Thursday for several years.

He loved Conesus Lake from the time he was a young child, when his uncle lived on East Lake Rd, till the time of his death where he shared his home on Conesus Lake with the love of his life, his wife, ‘Cathy,’

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and was a master of many crafts. Numerous people came to him for assistance with welding projects, or handyman skills he possessed.

John ‘Jack’ along with his wife ‘Cathy,’ was a devout Catholic and a Parishioner of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Livonia, NY for many years.
