Mark E. Hess – May 13, 2024

Hemlock: At age 67, Mark passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024, at his home in Hemlock. He was born on September 20, 1956, to the late George and Madeline (Kruger) Hess. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law Christine Hess. Mark is survived by his partner of 18 years, Carol Tedesco, and daughters Sara (John) Ciulla of Avon, NY, Michele (Dani Fregon) Hess of Brooklyn, NY, brother Dean Hess, grandchildren, Alexandria, John, and Eloise, niece, Laura (Cal) Hayward and nephew, Evan Hess. 

Mark grew up on the family farm in Hamlin, NY. In his youth he participated in the F.F.A and worked for his uncle Norm on the dairy farm, further cultivating his passion for animals and skills. Upon graduating from Hilton High School, he went on to graduate Farrier School in Sperry Oklahoma. In early adulthood, he was a team roper in rodeos and met Joel Cohen, his dear friend and employer of many years. He worked as a beloved farrier, skilled horseman, and horse farm manager for over 40 years, where he met countless lifelong friends. He was the best father, papa, and friend, anyone could ever ask for. Mark had the biggest heart and was always there for us all: to listen, lend a hand, or just make you smile. He was a humble man who worked hard and loved his family, friends, animals, family Rotties, Ava & Otto, and the horses. He had many passions including riding, gardening, reading, fishing and you can’t forget food!! A passion he shared with his daughters and many others. It was a blessing to have had him in our lives. He will be sorely missed, yet dearly remembered, by all. Till’ we meet again- 

Family and friends may call on Wednesday, May 22nd, from 4-6 PM at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Livonia, NY. no formal funeral services will take place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date and will be announced.   1. Rest in Peace Mark. I will always remember you as a kind and hardworking person who love his family very much. The world is not as bright without you in it. See you again one day. You will never be forgotten.

  2. As a boarder of SilverCreek Farms for well over 35 years and 3 different horses. Mark took such great care of all the horses and kept SilverCreek running smoothly for lots of years. He was dedicated to Joel, all the boarders, and all the animals in his care. He always was there to listen and help if he could no matter how big or small the problem was. SilverCreek was truly the end of the rainbow for all of its boarders.
    Mark was trusted and loved.

  6. Mark was so kind. He really is the man that the obituary talks of. Mark was a humble man who was very kind and generous. I’m am very saddened by this news. Rest in peace. Praying for all of the people who were touched by his passing.

  7. Sara and Michele this is a wonderful picture of an incredible man, father and friend to so many. I’m so sorry for your loss! It might be a little comfort but I can tell he obviously had a strong influence on both of you—smart, intelligent and caring women.
