Arkport: At age 78, Ed passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mount Morris. He was born on August 25, 1945, in Elmira, NY. He was the son of the late Louis and Margaret (Leven) Lawrence. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepson Robert S. Minemier lll; parents-in-law Warren and Cora Mae May; brothers-in-law Cameron R. May and Jason W. Dobbs; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Ed is survived by his wife Penelope ‘Penny’ (May/Minemier) Lawrence; son Jacob (Marissa) Lawrence, stepdaughter-in-law Dawn (Powell) Minemier; brother, Joseph Lawrence. In addition, he is survived by his sisters-in-law Wanona Dobbs and Mahogany May, and brother-in-law Father William May, grandchildren, Maria and Lara Minemier, Lainey and Weston Lawrence, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ed was a 1963 graduate of Dansville Central School. He joined the U.S. National Guard Infantry and Tank Unit as a Specialist 4th class and was honorably discharged in 1968. Ed’s work career began with the Agway Farm Co-op in Hornell, NY (1964-1968), transitioning to the Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. in Dansville, NY where he was a welder (1968-2003). At the closing of Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. Ed was able to earn his CDL-A license through BOCES in Mt. Morris (2003). This allowed him to continue working for UAP in Avon (April-October 2004), Sweetener Plus out of Wayland, and finally working for the town of Dansville Highway Department until he retired. In his younger years, Ed was a member of the South Dansville Volunteer Fire Department and served as Town Assessor. Ed was a farmer at heart and in his youth was a 4-H participant and a Future Farmer of America (FFA) member in high school. Ed took different livestock to local fairs and worked for and with local farmers. He spent a good many years raising white-faced Herefords as an avocation.
Family and friends may call on Friday, May 31st, from 4-6 PM at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Livonia, NY. Ed’s Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, June 1st, at St. Mary’s Church 38 Elizabeth St, Dansville, NY. Burial will be at a later date.
