Shirley was born on July 31, 1930 in Rush, New York to Agnes and Fred Bishop. She was the big sister to 5 younger brothers. She often regaled her children with the stories of her childhood and what it was like to be the eldest of 5 mischievous little brothers. She both attended and graduated from Avon Central School. After graduation, she attended Continental School of Beauty. Shirley was in her teens when she met her future husband and the “love of her life”, Floyd, at the Avon theatre where she was an usherette. They were married on May 23, 1953. After their marriage, she and Floyd lived in Caledonia, Avon, and Rochester before settling into their home in Livonia. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. Along with her husband Floyd, Shirley was very active in the American Legion. She served in the Legion Women’s Auxiliary for many years where she helped with the Annual Children’s Christmas Party, the Sunday Morning Breakfasts, preparing gift boxes for active duty soldiers and veterans, and marching in the Memorial Day Parades. Shirley was a gifted seamstress and shared this knowledge and skill with her daughters and granddaughter. She was very creative and enjoyed writing poetry, refinishing antique furniture, canning the vegetables from her garden, knitting, and other various arts and crafts. Shirley and Floyd both loved camping and many summers were spent camping in the Adirondacks with their three children and later with their grandchildren. Many will remember her for the great service and warm greeting she offered her customers at Maxim’s restaurant where she waited table for so many years. In the 1980’s, Shirley briefly operated and taught at a small Aerobics Studio in Livonia. Later in her life, Shirley attended Monroe Community College where she took several classes in interior design. Shirley loved all her family, but especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was ever present at their ball games, dance recitals, graduations, birthday parties, and holidays. Shirley often traveled to Florida where she also loved spending time with her son and daughter and grandchildren. Shirley truly loved life and her family and it was evident by her generosity and willingness to give so much of herself to anyone who asked. Her passing will forever leave a huge void in the hearts and lives of those of us who knew her best and loved her most.

Dan was born on May 2, 1950 in Warsaw, NY to parents Eugene & Marian Price. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Dan was a Master Automotive Technician for over 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, camping, kayaking, snowmobiling, hiking, and most recently he enjoyed restoring wooden canoes. His retirement gave him time to work on many projects including a complete restoration of a 1963 Shasta camper. Dan belonged to the Tuscorara “Spotsman” Club and also belonged to the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association and the Tin Can Tourist Organization. His passion for the Adirondacks will always be part of his heart and soul. The family extends their gratitude to all the loving members of the Vincent House in Wayland, NY for the compassion and care provided to Dan and his entire family.

Avon: George Evans Cullinan, April 9, 1927 to April 25, 2017, died peacefully, at age 90 years, in Rochester, New York. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Martha Collins Cullinan and his son, Rick Cullinan, parents Frank and Mary Agnes Cullinan, brothers, Mike, Charlie, Tim, Danny, and sister Mary Ellen Burke.

Survived by his daughter Mary Joan Cullinan of Rochester and his son, Peter Cullinan of San Francisco. Loving grandchildren, Cody (Ashley), and Courtney Cullinan. 7 great grandchildren and many devoted nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Born April 9, 1927 and raised in Avon, New York. George graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1950. His studies were interrupted by the draft. He served in the Navy from 1945-1947 returning to complete his degree.

Upon graduation, he worked for Household Finance Corporation in Washington, DC. He and Martha were married on July 21, 1951 settling in Arlington, VA. They returned to Avon when he and his brother Tim purchased the Avon Hardware Corporation. Eventually selling his share to Tim in 1972. He went on to have a successful career in sales from Hardware Wholesalers Inc. George retired after 15 years as an auditor for the State of New York.

George was a community leader serving 20 years as an elected representative of the Avon Town Board. He was a founding member of the Avon Ambulance Corps and active parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church, St. Agnes Eagle Society and St. Agnes School Scholarship Fund. He was an active and dedicated alumnus of the Notre Dame Alumni Association.

He possessed a keen intellect and was a voracious reader of American History. He will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, sharp wit, storytelling, and delicious sense of humor. George was a devoted son, husband, and father, grandfather and uncle.

Honeoye: Peacefully at Ontario Center in Canandaigua, NY on April 23, 2017, surrounded by her family, at age 93 years.

Mary worked as a secretary at the Quaker Oaks Company in Depew, NY and then left the company to take care of her family. Mary enjoyed living on Honeoye Lake with her son and daughter in-law.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Chester Buehlmann, her parents Henry and Lillian Young Sr., and her brothers Henry and Robert Young. Mary is survived by her son Paul (Joan) Buelhmann and her daughter Linda (Robert) Bennett. Patty greatly enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Conesus Lake where she would enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sunset. She was an avid reader, golfer, and greatly enjoyed cooking. She was a role model to many through her dedication to family and positive attitude. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved her kids and was incredibly proud of them. Patty had a special relationship with her grandchildren whom will greatly miss her. A truly wonderful person who brought joy and happiness to all.

Don worked in maintenance at the Rotary Sunshine Camp in Rush, NY for many years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.

They lived a good simple life and enjoyed many years together.

Rebecca Y. M. (Becky) Barnhoorn, 78, of Honeoye, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully, March 31, 2017 at F.F. Thompson Hospital, Canandaigua.

Born on February 19, 1939 in Bath, NY, as Laura Jane Wilson, she was given up for adoption by her natural parents, the late Orin and Helen Jane (Williams) Wilson, when she was 8 months old. On August 26, 1940, she was formally adopted by the late Robert and Isabel (Snay) Wilcox of Bath, and her name was legally changed to Rebecca Yvonne Wilcox. She later added Mary to her given name.

During her youth in Bath, Rebecca went to Haverling Central School. She was active in the Girls Scouts, and the Centenary Methodist Youth Fellowship, participating in the choir and as a pianist.

Because of a lack of love by her adoptive mother, Rebecca left the Wilcox home. She lived her late teen years in foster homes in New York City, Hornell and Rochester. She completed her education at Nazareth Academy in Rochester, graduating in 1959.

On November 5, 1960, Rebecca married Bart Joseph Barnhoorn at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Rochester; Bart predeceased her on May 3, 1996. Rebecca worked as a nursing assistant at St. Ann’s Nursing Home, Rochester; Elm Manor Nursing Home, Canandaigua; Honeoye Lake Home for Adults; and Sisters of St. Joseph’s Infirmary, Rochester. She also provided private duty in-home nursing care.

In the 1970s, Becky served as a member of the Committee for the Handicapped at Honeoye Central School. She also was an organist at the former St. Michael’s Church, Livonia Center.

On December 17, 1990, after over half century of separation, Rebecca was united with her biological brother Paul Douglas Watkins. The reunion was made possible by the persistent research of Rebecca’s son, Stephen.

In addition to her biological parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Shirley Watkins, paternal half-sister, Thelma Jennie Wilson, and niece Colleen Jane Watkins.

Rebecca will be sorely missed by five children, Michael J. Barnhoorn of Honeoye Falls, Daniel J. (Andrea) Barnhoorn of Scottsville, Stephen A. Barnhoorn of Honeoye, Bart J. Barnhoorn of Lima, and Toni (James) Sloan of Bloomfield; five grandchildren, Nickki Lee Barnhoorn, Lydia Anne Guthrie, USA Sgt. Suzanne W. Barnhoorn-Beardslee, Elliott J. Guthrie, and Christopher W. Barnhoorn; great-grandson, Elijiah Joseph Perrin; many nieces and nephews.

Greece: Passed away peacefully in her sleep at her daughter’s home in Livonia on Monday March 27, at the age of 94. Helen was born in Charlotte on February 8, 1923, the youngest of Carl and Bertha (Rossbach) Phillips’ three children. A lifelong resident of Rochester, she lived nearly her entire life within a mile or so of her birthplace. She was the cherished wife of George A. Baron, with whom she shared 56 happy years of marriage, until his death in 2009. Together they raised their four daughters in Greece and had a long and interesting retirement, filled with travel, volunteering and family life. Helen was a Girl Scout leader for many years and was an avid and accomplished seamstress and quilter, who enjoyed doing service projects with the Sewer’s Guild. She was a proud graduate of Charlotte High, Class of 1942, and spoke often of her high school job scooping custard at Abbott’s in Charlotte, ‘when it was just a nickel’. She was also proud of her German heritage, her parents both being hard-working immigrants. She was an environmentalist, long before anyone used that word, piling the family station wagon with old newspapers and hauling the load downtown for recycling, because she wanted the world to be a better place for her children. She valued friendship above most other things in her life, frequently reminding her girls that ‘you can never have too many friends’, and encouraging them ‘to make a little friendship’ if they ever noticed someone on the periphery of a group. It was this philosophy that led her to grab wallflower, George Baron, by the hand at a dance and propel him onto the dance floor with her. Much of her life was motivated by kindness and a desire to do good for others, and her daughters hope that in some small ways they have carried this lesson into their own lives as her most important legacy.

In addition to her husband, Helen was pre-deceased by her beloved siblings Elsie and Carl Phillips. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to Helen’s loving caregivers, Tory Reome, Amy Trescott, Karen Moran and Katie Marr, who helped to make her final months happy ones.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Baron and Neil Osterweil of Holliston, Massachusetts, Patricia Baron-Mills and Mark Mills of Livonia, Susan Baron and Eric Cosman of Honeoye and Pamela and Jeff Marti of Olympia, Washington as well as ‘daughter number five’, Mary Ellen O’Neill of Churchville; grandchildren George and Byron Osterweil, Beth (Mills) Spence and husband, Dan; Ben, Hannah and Hunter Mills, Dana Marti and Katie Cosman, great-grandchildren Ryder Spence and Colton Mills, her sister-in-law Flora Barber and five nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 5, at 1:30pm at Messiah Lutheran Church, 4301 Mount Read Blvd. Burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery. Geneseo/Livonia: Passed peacefully at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home on March 24, 2017 at age 91 years. Predeceased by her husband George E. France; her sons, David, William, & Daniel Ace, and her daughter Barbara Fischer; siblings; James Weaver, Gert Burger, and Charles Weaver. Survived by her children; Robert Ace of FL, Thomas Ace of FL, Beverly (Ronald) Pollock of Pittsford, Donald Ace, and Michael France both of Geneseo. Grandchildren; Jeffrey, Lori, Christopher (Lisa), Michelle, Tammy, Yvonne (Leon), Dale, Adam, Carrie, David, Donald; siblings; Katherine Arilotta of NC and Emil Weaver of HI. Also survived by several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces & nephews, and dear friends.

Helen lived her entire life in the Avon, Geneseo, and Lakeville areas. She was a devoted and loving mother of 9 children. Most of her time was spent in service to others at a restaurant in Lima, that she owned with her husband George. When she was not busy at the restaurant, Helen enjoyed playing bingo, cards and board games, traveling, and sharing a laugh or a story with family and friends. She always looked for the good in others, and had a positive outlook on life, no matter what life may have brought her way. She was an inspiration for others to share those same qualities.

Livonia: Unexpectedly on March 22, 2017 at age 66 years. Predeceased by his father William W. Sawyer. Survived by his wife Laurel Sawyer, his children, Christina (Brett) Schneider of Livonia and Amy Lateefuddin (fiancée Ronald Mertens) of GA, and his wife’s children, John (Andreya) Drury of Albany and Laura Kate (Loren) Bailey of OR. Grandchildren: Dustin, Adam, Brandon, Matthew, Kyle, Jack, Alexander and Katharine. Also survived by his mother Ariel Sawyer and siblings, Steve (Lisa) Sawyer, Timothy Sawyer, Lynn (David) Carney and Peter (Alison) Sawyer. Several nieces & nephews and many dear friends.

Chuck lead a very adventurous life. It started with him enlisting in the Marine Corp at the young age of 17. Soon after, he was shipped off to Vietnam where he completed two tours as a sniper. Chuck was also an extra in the 1970’s movie “ Patton”. He retired as a STAFF Sgt. After serving 17 years in the Army. Upon his retirement he was able to devote his time to his love of plants, animals and reading. Chuck lived his life with the foundation of God, Country, Corps and family.

Honeoye/Colorado Springs, CO: Unexpectedly, on March 16, 2017, at age 40, April Sunshine Moore (Marrapese) passed from this earth. Predeceased by her grandparents, Alfred & Rose Marrapese and Carl & Anna Burak. Those who knew her best would describe her as a vibrant adventurer with a zest for life. A gymnast, a cheerleader, a soccer goalie, and an equestrian, her athletic abilities were unmatched. April had a breadth of skills and experiences, and she never shied away from a challenge. Professionally, she was a seasoned and dedicated paralegal for Americorps in Bath, NY, a position she held for many years before journeying across the country to Colorado. She was a mother, a sister, a daughter, and a friend, and in each of these roles, her love knew no bounds. She was happiest when she was exploring all that nature had to offer in the great outdoors, surrounded by the souls who loved her most—those who she referred to as her “earthbound angels.”

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 29th, at 11 am at Calvary Community Church, 4045 East Henrietta Road, Henrietta NY, 14467, all are welcome.
