Honeoye: Passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014 at age 93 at Ont. Co. Nursing Home. Preceded by her husband, Fay; parents Blanche and Woods Guffey; sister Ethel Moody; brothers Marvin Guffey, Clifford Guffey and Lewis Guffey. Sister-in-laws; Marian Guffey & Joyce Guffey. Brother-in-law Bud Moody. She is survived by her loving Son and Daughter-in-law, Fay & Deborah Caskey. Grandchildren; Todd Caskey (Arica), Jeffery Caskey (Jennifer) and Brian Caskey (Stephanie). Great-Grandchildren; Adam, Ashley, Ryan, Megan, Annika, Mason, and Nolan Caskey. Also Lila, Devin & Skyler Maurer.
Born February 15, 1921 in Milton, PA – West Chillisquaque, Northumberland County. She was the daughter of Blanche & Woods Guffey. Edith’s mother, Blanche, died very young. Edith’s sister Ethel was the main person to take care of her, her two brothers and her father. Shopping, cooking and overseeing the upbringing of her 9-year-old sister and two brothers (ages 7 & 17.)
The family lived in Milton, PA, but later Edith moved to Canadice, working for the Costello Family, and met her husband, Fay Willard Caskey. They were married on April 5, 1942. Her husband passed away on November 11, 1967. They had one son, Fay Woods Caskey. Their son Fay married Deborah Werder and they had 3 sons, Todd, Jeff and Brian. Now each son is married and have children of their own. Edith has 10 Great-Grandchildren.
Edith & Fay were farmers. Fay took care of milking the cows and Edith raised over 1,000 chickens. They sold the eggs. Later in life, Edith worked for Southco, Inc. in Honeoye Falls, NY. She ran machines that made industrial fasteners. She retired in 1986 after serving over 25 years.
Edith moved to Park Lawn Apartments, with her sister. She and Ethel lived across the hall from each other. The two of them and brother Marvin would have many adventures together. Playing Bingo, going to Casinos, and out for dinner together. Brother Cliff also came over to visit often.
Later in life, Edith & her sister Ethel, still were across the hall from each other at the nursing home. Edith enjoyed it when the Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren would visit. Ryan & Megan would show her photos that were on their Mom & Dad’s phones – she loved that.
At the Nursing Home, Edith and Ethel would be at the end of the hallway, playing cards with two close friends Thelma & Donna. The four of them had so many fun times together. They would laugh and tease each other – it was so heartwarming to see good friends have so much fun at that age in life. Thelma was the first of the group that passed away. Ethel died on Nov. 6, 2012 and Edith’s roommate Donna died earlier this month. The four ladies were such great friends, and we know that they are together again.
She was a member of The Grange, Alger’s Hardware Bowling League and Honeoye Area Senior Citizens Club. In WWII she was a Volunteer for the Office of Civil Defense, checking for enemy planes.
A special thanks to all the staff at Ontario County Nursing Facility for all wonderful assistance they gave our family. Edith loved all of you. You made her feel so much at home.
