Richard “Rich” M. Guile ~ November 17, 2020

Rochester/Syracuse:  At age 74, Rich passed away peacefully at his home in Rochester with his family by his side on November 17, 2020.  He was born in Fulton, NY to the late Helen Guile.  Rich is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years; Linda Guile, his children; Lisa Kotyra and her husband Tim, Steve Guile, Michael Guile and his wife Jennifer, his brother; Peter Guile and his wife Sandy, his granddaughters; Sarah Kotyra, Kathryn Kotyra, Madison Kotyra, Ella Guile and Clara Guile, along with his granddog; Charlie.

We feel so lucky and blessed to celebrate our dad’s life.  Some knew him as Rich and others as “Dick”; but everyone knew of his generosity and love for his family.  Dad graduated from Niagara University in 1967 and was fortunate to have formed a group of lifelong friends.  He cherished these memories, friendships and the weekends they spent together.  He went on to work for AT&T for 31 years as an Operations Manager in Syracuse.  It was during these work years that he met and maintained another important group of friends that became his lifelong golf buddies.  Upon retirement, our dad decided to pursue an alternate career as a bus driver for the West Genesee School District.  He loved this job and enjoyed the children every day. “Mr. G” was best known for his Friday afternoon talent shows on the bus.  Sticking with this theme, he decided to add another post-retirement career; Zamboni driver for the Town of Camillus.  It was at the rink that he could see many old friends, watch countless hours of hockey and enjoy working alongside many of the students that he drove to school each day.

Throughout his life, our dad loved the water, fishing, golfing and boating.  He especially loved the St. Lawrence River where he built their beloved summer home of over 30 years. He loved to host friends and family weekends that included boat rides, fishing, tubing and plenty of fun and games.  The family memories from “camp” will live on forever. When he wasn’t enjoying the outdoors, you could find him enjoying his favorite recliner where he would often be cheering for the New York Giants, New York Rangers and the Syracuse Orange. He was so fortunate to have spent the  last several years dedicated to playing golf at the Thousands Island Club and Timber Pines in Spring Hill, Florida with our mother. We will miss him.

Due to current Covid restrictions, a funeral service to celebrate Rich will be announced and held in the future.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wilmot Cancer Institute Nursing Education Fund at: https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/cancer-institute/giving/make-a-gift.aspx or by mail at Wilmot Cancer Institute Advancement, 300 East River Road, Box 278996, Rochester, NY 14627.  To share a memory or a condolence, please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com.
