William J. Brennan – April 11, 2016

Geneseo: April 11, 2016, at age 78 years, after a brief illness. Survived by his wife of 51 years Sandra F. Brennan and daughter Christine E. Brennan (Craig S. Feder) of Glen Ridge, NJ. Grandchildren; Liam Feder and Aurora Feder; sister, Gladys (Walter) Riechmann of MN; nieces, Barb (Tom) Pederson and Deb Riechmann. Also survived by many friends and former students.

Dr. Brennan passed away from complications following a brief relapse of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which he had successfully overcome more than eight years ago. Bill joined the Geological Sciences Department at SUNY Geneseo in 1968. His training was in the fields of engineering geology, paleomagnetism, and geophysics, but he had wide-ranging experience in many related subdisciplines. He participated in the NASA-funded Apollo Research project early in his Geneseo career and he studied volcanic rocks during his mapping experiences in Colorado and Arizona. He taught Structural Geology, Tectonics, and implemented the Geophysics degree program in the Geological Sciences Department until his retirement. Bill consulted with private and governmental agencies in his areas of expertise, including seismology, groundwater, and solution mining. He also worked briefly for the U.S. Geological Survey while completing his Ph.D. at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He was elected to a term as chair of the SUNY Geneseo Faculty Senate. Bill was a major contributor to the Geological Sciences Department degree program and to its reputation for producing well trained graduates in their pursuit of advanced degrees at major universities. His loyal students will all fondly remember his Structural Geology fieldtrips to areas in NY and New England.

Following his retirement in 2003, Bill continued to pursue outside interests including backpacking with friends, hunting, both bow and gun and volunteering for community related organizations. He served as a hearing officer for many years with the Livingston County Health Department and he was a long-time advocate of promoting hunter safety in the region.

Morrissey of Boston, MA, Katie (Matt) Rogers of Henrietta, NY and four great grandchildren; Emily Bland, Ryan Bland, Peter Morsch, Elizabeth Morsch; and several nieces and nephews. Winifred was a long time member of St. Joseph’s/St. Matthew’s Catholic Church.

Winifred was born on September 6, 1915 in Greece, NY. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and St. Mary’s Nursing School. She was a Registered Nurse who worked at IBM in Rochester. She married John W. Morrissey on January 2, 1943 and moved to Livonia. She was a very proud parent of three children and a wonderful friend to many; a great cook and baker, and nurse to those who called. Winifred loved her way of life in Livonia and her church. For many years she enjoyed playing cards with friends. She sold her home in Livonia and moved to St. Johns Meadows in Rochester in 2007.

Martha was born on April 23, 1931, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, to Vincent and Mary Neff. She was a graduate of Nunda High School and married her husband William in 1953. They had three daughters. Martha worked at Avon Central School and Farmer’s Home Administration. In her free time, she enjoyed playing bingo and singing while cleaning. She loved her family and friends. Martha was a woman of deep faith and a devoted parishioner at United Methodist Church in Avon.

Martha was born on April 14, 1921 in Olean, NY to parents Arthur and Esther Boyle. She graduated from Eldred High School in 1939 and married Donald in 1941. She was the book keeper for Don’s Friendly Service Station in Olean for many years. In her later years she worked at TOPS Friendly Market in the bakery. She helped her husband Don with processing and selling honey, bailing hay, and caring for many different animals at their home. She was awarded with many trophies for her excellent bowling at the former Bowlean in Olean, NY. Martha was a wonderful, supportive wife and a devoted mother. She loved to have visitors and was a very caring, giving person. If she knew you would like something she had it became yours. It was not uncommon for her caretakers at Hurlbut Nursing Home to express that they all loved her and that she brought a ray of sunshine to their day. They enjoyed her smile.

Livonia: Unexpectedly on March 28, 2016 at age 52 years. Survived by her parents Roy and Betty Perkins, her sister Lisa West, and nephew Evan West all of Livonia.

Lori was a graduate of SUNY Geneseo and was a teacher at York Central School for many years. Lori was an avid horseman and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.

Anyone who knew Lori knew that she was funny. She was a twin sister to Lisa, whom she shared an amazing bond with. They were their own best audience and greatest fans. Her students at York were her children and her passion for her craft, the English language, was fierce. She was a wonderful daughter, she loved her nephew Evan and he loved his “Sissy.” She was fun to be around and her family will remember her that way forever.

Reverend Edward B. Zenkel – March 23, 2016

Livonia: The Reverend Edward B. Zenkel, 79 years, a Diocese of Rochester priest for nearly 55 years, died March 23, 2016. Father Zenkel grew up in Holy Apostles Parish in Rochester and attended the parish school, as well as the former St. Andrew’s and St. Bernard’s seminaries.

Bishop of Rochester James E. Kearney ordained Father Zenkel to the priesthood in June 1962, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Rochester.

After ordination, Father Zenkel served as assistant pastor at Guardian Angels in Henrietta and St. James in Waverly before becoming chaplain at the State Industrial and Agricultural School at Industry in 1968. Father Zenkel served there until 1981, when he became pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas in Leicester and St. Lucy’s in Retsof. While there, he served as chaplain at Groveland Correctional Facility and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Jail. In 1994, he left those parishes and became pastor of St. Mary in Honeoye, where he remained until reaching senior priest status in 2003.

He loved living on Conesus Lake and his Golden Retrievers, and was never shy about being Wegmans biggest fan. He had a big heart for people and a great love for life and was always keeping those around him on their toes with his playful prankster spirit.

He is predeceased by his parents Edward J. and Margaret (Tydings) Zenkel. Survived by his brother Robert (Julie) Zenkel, and beloved nieces Ann (Eric) Crews, Nancy (Nate) Buchanan and Margaret Zenkel and great nephew Eston Calder Crews. Also survived by many cousins on the Tydings and Zenkel sides of the family.

Avon: Passed peacefully on March 20, 2016 at age 80 years surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his parents Emil Sr. and Alice (Bailey) Weaver, brothers; William, Frederick, and James Weaver, and his sister Gertrude Burger. Survived by his wife of 54 years Mary E. Chuck was born at his family home in Lakeville on July 8, 1935. He spent his entire life in the Geneseo-Avon area where he worked on several farms before moving to a job at JC Penney’s. He spent 54 years madly in love with his wife, raising their family and supporting their church. Ever the optimist, he never gave up on the Buffalo Bills, one of the many fans always looking forward to “next year”. He seldom missed a day with the Avon McDonald’s afternoon club, talking town news and enjoying coffee with his friends. He will be missed by all.

John A. Biddle “Jack” ~ March 16, 2016

John A. Biddle, 84, passed away in his home in Dansville, NY on Wednesday, March 16, 2016.

Born on July 16, 1931 in Hornell, to Dorothy (Hunt) and Arthur Biddle of Cohocton. “Jack” was an accomplished
baseball player at Wayland Central School where he graduated in the Class of 1949. He enlisted in the United
States Army following graduation and served in the Korean Conflict, achieving the rank of Corporal and earning
numerous citations until his honorable discharge in 1952.

Upon returning home, Jack became an apprentice compositor at FA Owen Publishing Co in Dansville where he
made a 40-year career as a printing journeyman. It was at this place, he was introduced to the worse four-letter
word his family ever heard: golf.

Jack lived and breathed the game of golf, playing daily at Brae Burn Recreation, becoming club champion and
president of Brae Burn’s Mens Golf Association. Many a bent club have adorned the pine trees of Brae Burn
throughout the years. He was also a member of many social clubs in the Dansville area including the Protectives
Co. of the Dansville Fire Department.

Married twice, first to Jera Lee McConnell of Meadville, PA and then Penny L. O’Dell (deceased) of Avoca, NY,
Jack is father to 5 boys: Craig (deceased), Jeffrey, Kip, Scott and Shawn. He is also grandfather to Mackenzee,
Kaleigh, Aaron and Adam. Predeceased by his sister Patricia (Biddle) Drum of Elmira, he lived a full life and will
be missed greatly.

At his request, no calling hours or services will take place, but a gathering of family and friends will take place at 2pm on Saturday, April 2nd, at the Daniel Goho American Legion in Dansville.

Hal always had a love of baseball and played in high school and later in the slow pitch leagues. Hal was a self employed carpet installer in the area for many years.

Doris worked at Kraft General Foods in Avon, NY for over 20 years. In their retirement they loved to garden, taking care of their flower beds, and listening to the birds. She enjoyed sewing and many different crafts and spending time with her family especially her grandson Jayson and great granddaughter Sidney.

Livonia – Bruce C. Johnson passed away on March 1, 2016, at age 72. He was predeceased by his parents Glenn and Olive Johnson and granddaughter Jordan Stahl. He is survived by his wife Sherry, children; Amy (Timothy) Stahl, Eric (Janelle) Johnson. Grandchildren; Matthew, Griffin and Avery Stahl. Tristan Johnson, Hunter and Haley Dalberth. Livonia/Churchville: February 28, 2016 at age 92 years. Predeceased by his wife Jennie (Kiefer) Henry, daughter Patricia Henry, and siblings; Bill Henry, Howard Henry, and John Henry. Survived by daughters; Sharon (Edward) Peck of Honeoye Falls and Gail Henry of Greece. Siblings; Nellie Rossborough of Groveland, Arlene Moyer, and Gerry Henry both of Livonia. Also survived by many nieces & nephews.

Jim was born on April 28, 1923 in Rochester, NY to parents George and Neva (Rightmyer) Henry. He served his country in the US Army during WWII in the Philippines. Jim was a member of the Livonia Senior Citizens and also belonged to the American Legion.

Canandaigua: February 26, 2016 at 45 years. Predeceased by her first husband Timothy Paine. Survived by her husband David; children Daphne “Jackie” and Maxwell Paine; parents William and Marguerite Brietzke; brother Donald (Stefanie) Brietzke; and sister Kristine (Mike) Maenza.

Diane was a 1988 graduate of Honeoye Central School and formerly was owner/operator of retail store Firefly in Batavia. She was creative, whimsical and spiritual, with a delight in animals and the arts, and with a fierce love for her family.
