Lori L. Welch (Perkins) – March 28, 2016

Livonia: Unexpectedly on March 28, 2016 at age 52 years. Survived by her parents Roy and Betty Perkins, her sister Lisa West, and nephew Evan West all of Livonia.

Lori was a graduate of SUNY Geneseo and was a teacher at York Central School for many years. Lori was an avid horseman and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.

Anyone who knew Lori knew that she was funny. She was a twin sister to Lisa, whom she shared an amazing bond with. They were their own best audience and greatest fans. Her students at York were her children and her passion for her craft, the English language, was fierce. She was a wonderful daughter, she loved her nephew Evan and he loved his “Sissy.” She was fun to be around and her family will remember her that way forever.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 2nd, at 1pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 15 & 20A, Livonia. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Livonia Ambulance, PO Box 8, Livonia, NY 14487. To send a condolence please visit:

  1. Lisa and Evan, I’m so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine what you are going through. I hope you find some comfort in all of your wonderful memories and know that many are thinking and praying for you.

  2. I am unable to attend the memorial service today for Mrs. Welch, but I would like to send my condolences to her family and friends that all loved her so dearly. Mrs. Welch taught us more than just English; she taught us to love one another for who we are, each of us unique and special in our own way. We shared a love for animals and literature, and I always looked up to her. She was an inspiration to me and encouraged me to pursue my dream of working with animals. She always had a great book to recommend, and I read anything she suggested! She had amazing stories that would make us laugh. She could light up any room just by walking in with her enthusiastic personality. She gave us sound advice whenever it was needed, even if we didn’t want to hear it at the time (teenagers!). The love she had for her students will forever live on in our hearts. She made a positive impact on so many lives, and she will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this very difficult time.

  3. Ms. Welch was one of the first teachers to truly influence me in High School. She was simply an amazing teacher and cared about each and every one of her students, and that always showed in how she taught her lessons. She had such a deep influence in me throughout my schooling that I still often find myself thumbing through the books she recommended to me. God Bless her and may her soul rest in peace. My sincerest and deepest apologies to her family for their loss. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this tough time.

  4. Lori was a wonderful teacher who put her students first. So caring, creative and genuine. As an employee at YCS I looked forward to seeing her because she always had something happy and positive to add to the day.I often popped in for a visit to her classroom for a quick hello,or for a funny story As a parent….I knew my daughter was in very capable hands. Lori was also a talented jewelry artisan. She crafted a necklace and earring set made with purple stones that went to every soccer game for 3 years. At the Lady nights 1st State Championship appearance ,the day of the final I dropped one of the earrings and it broke….just as our hearts did when the girls lost in that final game. After returning to York I shared the misfortune with Lori…she replicated the earring so the set would be complete again. The following year I continued with the tradition wearing Lori’s creation to EVERY game…we won the State Soccer Championship that year, and I told Lori it was her good luck charm played a big part in the success. She had fun with that notion…as did I and my daughters.
It is with a heavy heart I send our condolences…a true loss of a wonderful lady. Rest peacefully Lori.
    Sincerely ~ Diane Skeffington

  5. I had the pleasure of working with Lori at York Central School. I will always remember her smile, contagious laughter and willingness to go the extra mile for her students! She was a fun loving woman with a heart of gold. My thoughts and prayers are with her family…

  6. Mrs. Welch was one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. She cared deeply about her students in all aspects of their lives. I will for we remember her and what an influence she had on me as a young person, and adult. My sincere & deepest apologies.

  7. Condolences to Lori’s family. She was a fantastic teacher, a wonderful co-worker and a dear friend. May her soul be at peace; she will be missed.

  8. MY daughter, Tasha had heard about this in Italy and called me, I tried my best all day to prove it wrong, but alas, to no avail. Lori Welch was one of the funniest, kindest, warm and giving people I have ever known. When we moved to NY, Lori was Tasha’s first teacher that really looked after her and that Tasha adored. SHe loved Matthew McConaghey and I remember Tasha buying her a movie for Christmas that first year. She was an amazing human being and a credit to teaching. She will be sorely missed.
