Geneseo/Livonia: Passed to be with her Lord on May 20, 2017 at age 76 years. Predeceased by her son David Hanna and her father Spencer Bartholomew. Diane was born May 16, 1941 in Warsaw, NY. She attended high school in Livonia, NY and graduated with an Associates Degree from MCC. She was employed by Rochester Products/Delphi and retired in 2000 after 30 years. She established a successful Ebay business after retirement. Dianne was a devoted mother to both sons, but was known as an especially devoted mother/caretaker to her special needs son, David, who pre-deceased her in 2015. Dianne enjoyed antiquing, antique button collecting, knitting, playing bridge, and adored the many pets she cared for throughout her life. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed watching all sports. Her most favorite times were spent with her loving husband of 47 years, her son Dan, and her loving family and friends.

Greenwood/Hemlock: Peacefully on May 20, 2017 at age 63 years. Stephen was born on May 6, 1954 in Hornell, NY to parents William and Etta (Hendrickson) Moore. He attended and graduated from Greenwood Central School and was an accomplished athlete. He served his country in the United States Air Force and later was employed at Ingersoll Rand and also the Veterans Administration Facility in Bath. He was a member of the Greenwood American Legion where he made many friends that he considered family. There he was a bartender and cleaner and always was keeping things polished and organized. He enjoyed the outdoors and enjoyed many walks on the family farm. Steve’s pride and joy were his grandchildren.

Geneseo: Peacefully at the Teresa House on May 18, 2017 Karyn entered into glory at age 62 with her sister by her side. Predeceased by her parents James and Lorraine (Dube) Stewart and her nephew Benjamin Waterman. Survived by her children Shayna Schapp (Jonah Lamers) of the Netherlands, Nathan Schapp (Caitlin Moseley) of Canandaigua, Evan (Jasmine) Schapp of Naples; grandchildren Edi and Carter Schapp; siblings Glenn (Lisa) Stewart of Mendon, Pamela (Dan) Waterman of Livonia, Laurie Stewart of Penfield and Jon (Stephanie) Stewart of Penfield. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, two great-nieces and a great-nephew.

Karyn was born on February 7, 1955 in Cheyenne, Wyoming where her father was stationed in the Air Force. Her family moved to Rochester, New York when her father was hired by Eastman Kodak Company. Karyn helped raise her four brothers and sisters and loved working with children so much she earned a degree in Early Childhood Education. She was a counselor at two Christian camps for children and worked in several day care centers.

Karyn was a strong woman of faith, she loved Jesus and gained strength every day by reading her bible. She often showed acts of kindness to strangers in grocery stores, restaurants and anywhere else she met people. She wrote notes of encouragement and kindness to family, friends and people she barely knew and decorated them with stickers. She loved dancing and would often dance to loud music in her apartment. Karyn spent many of her waking hours praying for others and gave to many charitable organizations who provide for children living in third world countries. Although she had many struggles throughout the years, she always remained strong in her faith and looked forward to the day she would meet Jesus, the source of her strength. We rejoice that she has been made whole and will live eternally in Heaven.

Karin (Peterson) Holmes passed away at home in Canadice March 26, 2017, after a long illness. She is survived by her son Kurt Holmes of Conesus, daughter Diane Holmes, grandson Jesse Freund both of Canadice. Brother Kurt Petersen, sister-in-law, Vera Petersen both of Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Niece, Linda Petersen. Nephews, Paul Petersen, Glenn Petersen, Steven Petersen. Great nieces, Brit, Sydney, and Carmen. Great nephews, Bryce, Alex, Brayden, Erik, and Shan all of Ontario and British Columbia Canada as well as extended family and friends.

“Big things come in small packages”
Karin was the epitome of that saying. She was born in Kollund, Denmark. From generations of farmers and having both grandfathers known horse breeders it was her passion to follow in their legacy. Her grandfather Edlif Petersen was known throughout Europe for his majestic Belgian Stallions.

After weathering WWII, she met her husband, an American soldier and immigrated to the United States and had a family. Eventually settling in New York where she started her own business of running a horse farm.

Karin became a successful and accomplished equestrian, trainer, teacher and breeder. She had a keen eye for a good horse and a knack for training those that were difficult, like her beloved “Luke” whom she broke, trained and showed at a competitive level. As a breeder, Karin was sought out for her lovely, talented offspring, most she broke and trained herself. Many became champions. At 80 she was able to show and win with her final baby two-time Grand Champion Bentley.

She was fearless and tireless as a competitor – Steeple Chases (winning) eventing, and Dressage before it was taken seriously by her peers.

She studied and trained with the best, George Morris, and Capt. Nadsy.

Her time was devoted to Pony Club, was a member of the Genesee Valley Breeders, Dressage Association, Genesee Valley Fox Hunt Club, and an innovator of many projects.

Karin will be greatly and deeply missed but leaves an immensely rich legacy to so many.

Eleanor Madigan Morris was born in Rochester, NY on October 23, 1928. She spent her childhood years in Lima, NY in a large and loving family. She was educated at Geneseo State College and received her Teaching Degree, taught 6th grade English in Livonia and was active in Special Education.

She married Joseph Morris on July 19, 1952 and they had 7 beautiful children together. Joe’s job took them from Rochester, NY to Massachusetts and Maryland, returning to Livonia, NY in 1972. They spent the remainder of their years as proud residents of Livonia.

Eleanor was a compassionate, kind advocate of all things great and small. She became a foster parent because her heart saw the need for a loving home for all children. She became Mom to over 150 kids. She opened her heart and home to all, making sure there was a meal and a place for anyone in need to lay their head. She became a Social Worker while still maintaining an open door. She was an active community member who loved to participate in school plays, making many costumes, and doing makeup. She was a member of the Historical Society and had a wonderful flair for editing books and perfect grammar. She had a passion for all kinds of music in her children and her grandchildren. Eleanor loved her family to infinity. Eleanor called the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation home for many years and made the most of her time spent there. Shirley was born on July 31, 1930 in Rush, New York to Agnes and Fred Bishop. She was the big sister to 5 younger brothers. She often regaled her children with the stories of her childhood and what it was like to be the eldest of 5 mischievous little brothers. She both attended and graduated from Avon Central School. After graduation, she attended Continental School of Beauty. Shirley was in her teens when she met her future husband and the “love of her life”, Floyd, at the Avon theatre where she was an usherette. They were married on May 23, 1953. After their marriage, she and Floyd lived in Caledonia, Avon, and Rochester before settling into their home in Livonia. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. Along with her husband Floyd, Shirley was very active in the American Legion. She served in the Legion Women’s Auxiliary for many years where she helped with the Annual Children’s Christmas Party, the Sunday Morning Breakfasts, preparing gift boxes for active duty soldiers and veterans, and marching in the Memorial Day Parades. Shirley was a gifted seamstress and shared this knowledge and skill with her daughters and granddaughter. She was very creative and enjoyed writing poetry, refinishing antique furniture, canning the vegetables from her garden, knitting, and other various arts and crafts. Shirley and Floyd both loved camping and many summers were spent camping in the Adirondacks with their three children and later with their grandchildren. Many will remember her for the great service and warm greeting she offered her customers at Maxim’s restaurant where she waited table for so many years. In the 1980’s, Shirley briefly operated and taught at a small Aerobics Studio in Livonia. Later in her life, Shirley attended Monroe Community College where she took several classes in interior design. Shirley loved all her family, but especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was ever present at their ball games, dance recitals, graduations, birthday parties, and holidays. Shirley often traveled to Florida where she also loved spending time with her son and daughter and grandchildren. Shirley truly loved life and her family and it was evident by her generosity and willingness to give so much of herself to anyone who asked. Her passing will forever leave a huge void in the hearts and lives of those of us who knew her best and loved her most.

He enjoyed hunting, camping, kayaking, snowmobiling, hiking, and most recently he enjoyed restoring wooden canoes. His retirement gave him time to work on many projects including a complete restoration of a 1963 Shasta camper. Dan belonged to the Tuscorara “Spotsman” Club and also belonged to the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association and the Tin Can Tourist Organization. His passion for the Adirondacks will always be part of his heart and soul. Avon: George Evans Cullinan, April 9, 1927 to April 25, 2017, died peacefully, at age 90 years, in Rochester, New York. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Martha Collins Cullinan and his son, Rick Cullinan, parents Frank and Mary Agnes Cullinan, brothers, Mike, Charlie, Tim, Danny, and sister Mary Ellen Burke.

Survived by his daughter Mary Joan Cullinan of Rochester and his son, Peter Cullinan of San Francisco. Loving grandchildren, Cody (Ashley), and Courtney Cullinan. 7 great grandchildren and many devoted nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Born April 9, 1927 and raised in Avon, New York. George graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1950. His studies were interrupted by the draft. He served in the Navy from 1945-1947 returning to complete his degree.

Upon graduation, he worked for Household Finance Corporation in Washington, DC. He and Martha were married on July 21, 1951 settling in Arlington, VA. They returned to Avon when he and his brother Tim purchased the Avon Hardware Corporation. Eventually selling his share to Tim in 1972. He went on to have a successful career in sales from Hardware Wholesalers Inc. George retired after 15 years as an auditor for the State of New York.

George was a community leader serving 20 years as an elected representative of the Avon Town Board. He was a founding member of the Avon Ambulance Corps and active parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church, St. Agnes Eagle Society and St. Agnes School Scholarship Fund. He was an active and dedicated alumnus of the Notre Dame Alumni Association.

He possessed a keen intellect and was a voracious reader of American History. He will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, sharp wit, storytelling, and delicious sense of humor. George was a devoted son, husband, and father, grandfather and uncle.

Survived by her husband of 42 years Paul Klemmer and children; Jason (Nicole) Klemmer of Avon and Erika (Kyle) Edwards of Caledonia; grandchildren, Liam, Cole, Grayson, and Henry; siblings, Susan Halpin, Mary (Robert) Halpin-McNamara, and Theodore (Marli) Halpin Jr.; nieces & nephews, Josh (Deb), Andy (Emily), Lizzie (Ryan), Lauren (Patrick), and Teddy. Also survived by her mother-in-law Vera Klemmer, sister-in-law Peggy Klemmer, several great nieces & nephews, many dear friends, including her longtime golf partner Sandy Driscoll, and her cat Itty Bitty.

Patty was the office manager at the family business, Dugan Creek Lumber. Through hard work, dedication and perseverance the Klemmer family built Dugan Creek Lumber from the ground-up to where it thrives today. Patty greatly enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Conesus Lake where she would enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sunset. She was an avid reader, golfer, and greatly enjoyed cooking. She was a role model to many through her dedication to family and positive attitude. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved her kids and was incredibly proud of them. Patty had a special relationship with her grandchildren whom will greatly miss her. A truly wonderful person who brought joy and happiness to all.

Honeoye: Peacefully at home on April 16, 2017 at age 68 years. Predeceased by her father Donald R. Schmitt. Survived by her husband of 45 years, Guy Murdoch Ward and daughters; Jennifer Ivers Ward of Fairport and Sarah Ann Ward of Ovid; granddaughters; Katelyn Ann Kress and Irelyn Ward. Also survived by her mother Cecelia Schmitt and her brother Ronald (Bonnie) Schmitt all of Tonawanda. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Cindy was involved in many community activities including the Finger Lakes Rug Hooking Guild, 4H, the Honeoye-Hemlock American Legion Auxiliary, and she was a member of the Canadice Methodist Church. She was also a recipient of the Rotary Paul Harris Award. Cindy was an art teacher at the Honeoye Central School district for many years, retiring in 2002.

Kendall/Avon: April 5, 2017, at age 75 years, at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center. Predeceased by his wife Beverly Hungerford and his brother Ronald “Skeeter” Hungerford. Don is survived by his mother Caroline Ruth Hungerford-Weden of Avon and his brothers; Robert (Terri) Hungerford of Louisville, KY, Thomas (Laurie) Hungerford of York and James Weden (Sharon Bott) of Rush. Also survived by 3 children, several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Don was born on February 13, 1942 in Rochester, NY to parents Robert and Caroline Hungerford. He graduated from Avon Central School in 1960 and then served his country in the US Army from 1960-1963. Don worked in maintenance at the Rotary Sunshine Camp in Rush, NY for many years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, April 29th, 11am at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Retsof Road, York, New York with military honors. Mary was born on August 25, 1930 in Conesus, NY to parents Lowell & Edith Struble. She married Stephen J. Cowley Jr. on July 5, 1952 and they raised their family in Scottsburg. She was a busy mother taking care of children and also working selling Avon in the area. Both Mary and her husband Stephen volunteered at the Sparta Center Fire Department. They lived a good simple life and enjoyed many years together.

Rebecca Y. M. (Becky) Barnhoorn, 78, of Honeoye, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully, March 31, 2017 at F.F. Thompson Hospital, Canandaigua.

Born on February 19, 1939 in Bath, NY, as Laura Jane Wilson, she was given up for adoption by her natural parents, the late Orin and Helen Jane (Williams) Wilson, when she was 8 months old. On August 26, 1940, she was formally adopted by the late Robert and Isabel (Snay) Wilcox of Bath, and her name was legally changed to Rebecca Yvonne Wilcox. She later added Mary to her given name.

During her youth in Bath, Rebecca went to Haverling Central School. She was active in the Girls Scouts, and the Centenary Methodist Youth Fellowship, participating in the choir and as a pianist.

Because of a lack of love by her adoptive mother, Rebecca left the Wilcox home. She lived her late teen years in foster homes in New York City, Hornell and Rochester. She completed her education at Nazareth Academy in Rochester, graduating in 1959.

On November 5, 1960, Rebecca married Bart Joseph Barnhoorn at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Rochester; Bart predeceased her on May 3, 1996. Rebecca worked as a nursing assistant at St. Ann’s Nursing Home, Rochester; Elm Manor Nursing Home, Canandaigua; Honeoye Lake Home for Adults; and Sisters of St. Joseph’s Infirmary, Rochester. She also provided private duty in-home nursing care.

In the 1970s, Becky served as a member of the Committee for the Handicapped at Honeoye Central School. She also was an organist at the former St. Michael’s Church, Livonia Center.

On December 17, 1990, after over half century of separation, Rebecca was united with her biological brother Paul Douglas Watkins. The reunion was made possible by the persistent research of Rebecca’s son, Stephen.

In addition to her biological parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Shirley Watkins, paternal half-sister, Thelma Jennie Wilson, and niece Colleen Jane Watkins.

Rebecca will be sorely missed by five children, Michael J. Barnhoorn of Honeoye Falls, Daniel J. (Andrea) Barnhoorn of Scottsville, Stephen A. Barnhoorn of Honeoye, Bart J. Barnhoorn of Lima, and Toni (James) Sloan of Bloomfield; five grandchildren, Nickki Lee Barnhoorn, Lydia Anne Guthrie, USA Sgt. Suzanne W. Barnhoorn-Beardslee, Elliott J. Guthrie, and Christopher W. Barnhoorn; great-grandson, Elijiah Joseph Perrin; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017, 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Honeoye, Father Hoan Dinh, officiating. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Honeoye.
