Joan Elizabeth Farley “Joanie” – February 11, 2023

Livonia/Honeoye:  On February 11, 2023, at age 81, Joan “Joanie” Farley passed away peacefully with family by her side.  She is predeceased by Nelson Gregory Sr., Father Theodore Farley, Mother Alice Farley, Brother James (Jimmy) Farley, Sister-in-law Bonnie Farley, Brother Howard Farley Sr., Nephew Thomas Farley, and Son-in-law Shane Gascon.

She is survived by her children Lisa Gascon and Nelson (Jen) Gregory Jr.  Her grandchildren Colton (Charlea) Gascon, Caly (Jeremiah) Bowen, Derek Engels and great-grandchildren Aiddan and Aubrey Gascon. Many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her beloved dog Bernie.

Joan was born December 31, 1941 in Rochester NY. She was the youngest of three children to Theodore and Alice Farley. She resided in Livonia and Springwater for most of her life, and spent her later years in Honeoye.  She was a kind and selfless person, who always put others before herself. She lived a simple life but a good one.

She loved her children and grandchildren more than anything and put spoiling them at the top of her list.  Joanie loved being in the kitchen, she will be remembered for her very detailed cakes, endless amounts of cookies that she shared with everyone, having the best snacks, and putting on the best spreads for  supper!

She was definitely a homemaker, she would sew Lisa and Jr’s clothing when they were younger, make everything from scratch, she always made sure they had full bellies, a glass of milk with supper and something sweet shortly after.  Joan was sweet but don’t let that fool ya she was strong too. She grew up a farm girl. She spent a lot of her time on her family farm holding her own with her brothers, working on her own cars, driving tractors and tending to animals.  She loved all animals, it didn’t matter what kind, however she had a special place in her heart for misfit dogs!  Joanie had a soft and gentle nurturing side, but also had a belly up to the bar side where she kept right up with all the guys.  She really enjoyed tending to her garden, playing in her flower beds, collecting recipes, ice cream, the QVC channel, Fox News, Nascar, and her dog Bernie, but most of all her family.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell NY for the outstanding care that Joan received at the end of her life.  Another special thank you to Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home in Livonia, NY.

At Joan’s request her services and burial were held privately.  To share a memory or send a condolence please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com

“Remember me in the spring

When the flowers bloom

 And robins sing

 Call to me

 And I’ll be there

 Like a breeze

 Whistling through your hair

 For I’ve never really left

 I will never part

As long as there’s a piece of me

 Left in your heart

Let not your heart be troubled

For I am in a better place

 Until we meet again

 Through God’s grace

 Remember me in the spring

 When flowers bloom

 And robins sing”
