Helen Jane Rombaut – January 31, 2023

Conesus/Avon:  At age 102, Helen passed peacefully on January 31, 2023 at home in Avon, NY.  Predeceased by her husband Edmond “Eddy” Rombaut, daughter Carol Peters, sisters Alice Hornberger and Elma Rombaut, and son-in-laws Chester Peters and John Duryee. Survived by children; Donna Smith of West Virginia, Elma (Ron) Reed of Conesus, Joyce Duryee of Avon, and Keith Rombaut (Michael Cobb) of Rochester; 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews.

Helen spent 36 years enjoying Conesus Lake at her cottage on DaCola Shores which ultimately became a year-round home.  There she spent precious time with her husband Eddy, her children, and eventually their families.  In the summer you could find Helen driving the boat while her kids skied behind!  You could also find her playing the organ at home or at the Conesus United Methodist Church every Sunday for many, many years.  Helen loved to knit as well.  She made socks, hats, blankets, mittens and much more for friends and family. She donated many of the mittens she knitted to the church every year.  One year she made 100 for the church!

After Helen retired, she enjoyed spending time with Eddy riding along in his tractor trailer.  Helen also enjoyed spending time bowling in leagues with friends and watching baseball.  Especially the Yankees!

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, July 19th, at 11am at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford, NY.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Teresa House, 21 Highland Road, Geneseo, NY 14454.  To send a condolence or share a memory please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com

  1. Debbie,
So sorry to hear the bad news that your grandma passed. Prayers to you and your family.

  2. Our condolences to the Rombaut clan. Aunt Helen was a very sweet person. I remember that beautiful Chris craft with the yellow bottom cruising down the middle of Conesus lake with uncle Ed and aunt Helen at the helm! The rumble they made in that boat was music to my ears! God bless you Aunt Helen and may you rest in Peace
