Honeoye: At age 78, John passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2020 at his home in Honeoye. He was born in Rochester, NY to the late Orrin and Dorothy R. Scamp. Survived by his beloved companion of 20 years; Susan Affolter, along with several friends.

Michael W. Dubowyk “Dubo” ~ August 15, 2020

Lakeville:  At age 52, Michael passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.  He was born in Rochester, NY to John and Marilyn Dubowyk.  Survived by his beloved wife of 26 years Darlene Dubowyk, his children; Brittnee Dubowyk, Shawn Dubowyk, and his siblings; Lorry Hulse, Lisa Molina, John (Ginny) Dubowyk, Debi (Jack) Glover, and Steven Dubowyk, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Patricia J. Matthews “Trisha” ~ May 3, 2020

Livonia: At age 68, Trisha passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born in Queens, NY to the late; William and Elinor Howard. Trisha is predeceased by her husband; Elmer Matthews. Survived by her children John (Carmen Amparo Lecca-Rock) Rock, James (Kimberly Holland) Kennedy, Jennifer (Brent Fategoni) Kennedy, her grandchildren; Elizabeth Kennedy, Amelia Fategoni, Jericho Fategoni, her sisters; Elaine Miller-Roy, Marilyn Howard, Linda Carlson, and Carolyn Ruettgers .

Trisha loved nature, she enjoyed being out side watching birds, tending to her garden. She loved all animals, especially cats and owls.  She loved to can her own fruits and vegetables from her garden and was an amazing cook.  Trisha was a history enthusiast, especially when it came to local history.  She will be greatly missed.

Geraldine P. Deane “Gerry” ~ April 19, 2020

Fairport: At age 85, Geraldine passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2020 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. She was born in Canandaigua, NY to the late John and Clela Powers. Gerry was predeceased by her husband of 45 years; Jackie C. Deane. She is survived by special cousin William (Mary Jo) Ingraham, godchild Jeffrey Ingraham and Jamey Ingraham. Also, cousins Stephanie Butler and Richard Ingraham. Nieces: Patricia & William Quagliata (Billy and Michelle), Suzanne & Denny Trask (Todd/Jennifer and Benjamin), Kathleen & Dale VanNort (April & Ricky), Laurie Lunn Stevens (Ryann), Roxanne & Paul Hayes (Erin, Zoe, Hannah, Joanna). Nephews: Todd (Jennifer) Trask, Deane Park, Timothy Park, Kevin & Karen Lunn (Jennifer and Ashley) Ethan & June Deane (Seth & Hannah). Geraldine was a graduate of SUNY Geneseo. She went on to work as a teacher in Penfield, NY at Indian Landing for over 30 years.

Gerry was always on the go, ready to join friends for golf, cards, mahjong, stitching, gardening, or lunch. She enjoyed travel, jazz music, attending plays, and visiting museums. She never made it past an ice cream stand!

Livonia: At age 70, Donna passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital. She was born in Rochester, NY to the late Howard and Eileen Johnston. Donna is predeceased by her brother; Richard Johnston. Wayne G. Priest ~ August 8, 2020

Livonia:  At age 66, Wayne passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at his home in Livonia.  Wayne was born in Rochester, NY.  He was predeceased by his mother; Irene King.  Survived by his beloved wife of 18 years; Shirley A. Keith C. Alexander ~ August 6, 2020

Livonia/Conesus Lake:  At age 86, Keith passed peacefully on August 6, 2020.  He was born on January 3, 1934 in Rochester, NY to the late Gilbert and Florence (Hall) Alexander.  Survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara (Cole) Alexander and children; Karen (Dave) Coty of Livonia, Kay (Tom) Kouvatsos of Sarasota, FL, and Ken (Kelly) Alexander of Nunda; grandchildren, Richard Alexander, Katrina (Justin) Helmus, Eleni Kouvatsos, Stephanie Kouvatsos, Jay (Tanya) McGregor, and Jeff McGregor; siblings, Shirley Ward and Brian Alexander; and many other loving family and friends.

Keith graduated from Edison Tech in Rochester, NY in 1953 and later served in the US Army from 1956-1958.  He retired from SUNY Geneseo where he worked as a mechanic for over 25 years.  Keith liked building and making things.  He enjoyed living on Conesus Lake and was known for building docks.  Keith was a member of the Livingston County Antique Car Club and was a lifetime member of the Livonia Masonic Lodge.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to all the staff members at the Fred and Harriett Taylor Health Center in Bath, NY for all the care they provided.

Phyllis K. Walls (Benjamin) – August 4, 2020

York/Elmira, NY:  At age 98, Phyllis passed peacefully on August 4, 2020 at Morgan Estates, Geneseo, NY.  She was born on February 19, 1922 in Towanda, PA to the late Richard and Tessie (Elliott) Benjamin.  She is also predeceased by her siblings; Betty Niemann, Janice Shaffer, Meylert Benjamin, and Carol Benjamin.  Survived by her children; Charles McCabe (Shirley Gleockner) of Elmira and Susan (Victor) Ducot of Mumford; grandchildren, Robert Watkins, Tara (Ron) Wall, Kristian Ducot, and Nicolas Ducot; great-grandchildren, Michael, Vinny, and Carys Wall; and many nieces & nephews.

Phyllis lived and worked in Elmira for many years.  After graduating from high school in 1940 she attended secretarial training and later became an executive secretary for Elmira Savings Bank for over 20 years.  Family was very important to Phyllis and she was “Nana” to many.  During her life, she always enjoyed painting. She won many awards for her artwork and sold numerous paintings over the years.

No formal funeral services will be held; the family will have a private interment at Oak Hill Cemetery, Towanda, PA.  Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 435 E. Edward D. Holmes “Ned” – July 31, 2020

Hemlock:  At age 85, Ned passed peacefully on July 31, 2020.  Ned was born on April 14, 1935 in Syracuse, NY to the late Duane and Ruth (Leiterman) Holmes.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise (Derushia) Holmes; daughters, Elin (Jeff) Orman of Hemlock and Alison (Steve) Simpson of Victor; grandchildren, Erika (Thomas) Callahan, Hannah Orman, Sarina Simpson, and Garrett Simpson; sisters, Barbara Hippensteel and Nancy Harrison; several nieces, nephews, and many friends including his Honeoye UCC Church family.

Ned attended and graduated with a BS and MS from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY which led him into a 37 year career with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.  After his dedicated career he retired as the Natural Resources Supervisor at the DEC Region 8, Avon, NY.  He was involved with the Livingston County Center for Dispute Settlement as a mediator for 25 years, the Genesee Valley Greenway Board, Fiddlers of the Genesee, was a mentor for youth through Catholic Charities, and was also active on numerous church boards and was a past board member for the American Wildlife Research Foundation.

Ned was always on the go and had many interests. He was an avid cyclist, touring North America and Europe. He climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro at age 73 to raise money for cancer research, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition, Ned was a member of the Genesee Valley Aeromodelers Club.  Ned enjoyed sharing his passion of nature with others, actively mentoring youth in outdoor activities.

Justin S. Leverenz – July 29, 2020

Livonia, NY:  At age 23, Justin passed peacefully on July 29, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a battle with aplastic anemia.  He is survived by his parents Dennis & Deborah Leverenz of Livonia and Linda Colon of Bath; 10 siblings,  Tyler, Alleicia, Cetta-lynn, Celena, Dennis Jr, Ricky, Christopher, Stephanie and Linzy; 3 nieces and 5 nephews; several grandparents, 1 aunt, cousins, special friends and more!

Justin was born on December 4, 1996 in Rochester, NY.   He enjoyed spending time with his family, biking, skateboarding, target shooting, driving his car, listening to music, playing x box, spontaneous adventures with friends, enjoying the farm, and let’s not forget Vincenzos chicken fingers and fries…there are so many things Justin loved, these are just a few.  He is and will always be our strength and warrior.

Thomas R. Kuhn “Tommy” ~ July 28, 2020

Dansville/Northport, NY: At age 64, Tommy passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 in Huntington, NY. He was born in San Antonio, TX. Tommy was predeceased by his father; Thomas B. Kuhn. Survived by his mother; Merrilee R. (Kiehle) Kuhn, his sister; Leesa (John) Spitler, and his nieces; Dr. Samantha Spitler and Alexandra (Skylar) Korb.

Tommy was a graduate of Dansville High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1974. He went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Music History and Theory from SUNY Geneseo and his Master’s Degree in Music Therapy from NYU. Tommy was a gifted writer, musician and singer. He took his talent and helped others as a music therapist for Beth Israel Medical Center as well as Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, NY. Tommy loved music so much, he would travel around the New York City and the Long Island areas to play concerts, weddings, and numerous other special occasions. He had a kind heart and was always willing to help someone that was in need. Tommy will be greatly missed.

David P. Szczygiel, Brigadier General, Retired ~ July 26, 2020

 

Conesus/Utica:  Promoted to the rank of Angel on July 26, 2020 after a valiant battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family at his home on Conesus Lake.

Preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Szczygiel, mother and father-in-law Mildred and Stuart Madore, brothers-in-law James Case and Bud Spellicy, and nephews Andrew Szczygiel and Jeffrey Case.  David is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, M. Gail (Madore) Szczygiel; daughter Lori (Michael) Tedesco and their children John, Matthew and Kelsey; son Michael (Paula) Szczygiel and their children Mitchell and Ava; brother and best friend Steven (Loretta) Szczygiel; and sisters Monica Spellicy, Sabina Case and Dolores Szczygiel; brothers-in-law Stuart (Eileen) Madore and Vilas Madore; several beloved nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Born January 27, 1937 in Utica, NY, David was the quintessential self-made man.  From humble beginnings, he went on to a successful, 37-year career serving his state and country with the New York Army National Guard, enlisting in the 102nd Military Police Battalion in 1959.  He subsequently held a wide variety of high level command and staff positions, including serving as commander of the state’s 42nd Infantry Division.  His career culminated with his promotion to Brigadier General and his assignment as Deputy Commanding General, New York Army National Guard.

David’s civilian life included a long tenure with Niagara Mohawk Power Company.  In addition to his many accomplishments, David remained a humble servant, living the creed of serving God, family and country.  Baptized Roman Catholic, he was an active member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Geneseo.  David was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his five grandchildren, enjoying vacations with them, watching their sporting events and sharing his love of the outdoors.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman and treasured his times hunting with his son, brother, nephews and close friends.  His love of country was always evident, from his flag flying on the shores of Conesus Lake (always lit at night) to his retired role with the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), including a term as president, and their efforts to support Honor Flight and other veteran-related causes.

In light of the precautions necessitated by COVID-19, a private service will be held for family and close friends at St. Michael’s Church in Geneseo.  At the appropriate time, the family will hold a celebration of David’s life for family and his extended circle of friends. Gary C. Hunter ~ July 26, 2020

Avon:  At age 75, Gary passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.  He was born in Corning, NY to the late Gordon and Marguerite Hunter.  Survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Nancy Hunter, his children; Kelly Patterson, Andrew Swan, Jeffrey (Candace) Swan, Carrie (Josh) Trubia, his brother; Joe (Joanne) D’Angelo, his sister-in-law; Melissa McHenry (Beth Bailey), his 9 grandchildren; Brody, Benny, Evan, Lily, Lucy, Giana, Jackson, Rowan, Julian, along with his nieces, Addyson and Brynn.

Gary was raised in Hemlock, NY and graduated from Livonia Central School.  He took pride in being an active member of his community.  Gary was practically a lifelong member of the Hemlock Fire Department where he served as commissioner for a period of time and he also loved to volunteer at the Hemlock Fair.  Gary was a dedicated employee.  He worked for Jeff Huff Incorporated in Honeoye for 25 years and retired from Sweetener’s Plus as an over the road truckdriver.  Gary loved being social, whether it was playing cards, going to parties, camping with friends, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.  Gary will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Malcolm Bruce Ernisse Sr. “Bruce” ~ July 24, 2020

Springwater: At age 80, Bruce passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2020 at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, NY. He was born in Rochester, NY. Bruce is predeceased by his parents; Franklin and Margaret Ernisse and his first wife; Sydney (Marshall) Ernisse. Survived by his wife of nearly 20 years; Kathleen F. Perry-Ernisse, his children; Debbie Ernisse, Margaret (Fred) Lopez, Mary Rose (Bill) Kober, Malcolm “BJ” (Deanna) Ernisse, his brother; Richard (Audrey) Ernisse, and his 7 grandchildren; Freddy, Jason, Tony, David, Kherie, Laurie, and Cheyanne, along with his great grandchildren; Liliana, Nathan, and Abbiegale.

Bruce retired after working for Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital as a Respiratory Therapist.  After retiring Bruce worked part time as a Security Officer for Hickey Freeman Clothing in Rochester.

He was an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 91 and Troop 3 Rochester, NY.  Bruce spent many summers at Massawepie Scout Camp working with scouts to obtain their merit badges and provided medical support and was a proud member of the “Slug Patrol”.  He also volunteered as the camp medical officer for the Girl Scouts Camp in Deer Park.

Bruce was an avid bowler, was a member of the ABA and was a junior bowling coach.  He played trumpet in the brass section and was a drum Corp member with the Gray Knights and the Rochester Crusaders.  He was a Past commander of VFW Post 7962 and also participated on the fund-raising committee to build the brick lined flag pole at the American Legion in Honeoye.

“My husband had a fun-loving spirit with a kind heart and an infectious sense of humor.  He loved life and people and was never too busy to have a good ol’ conversation with whoever he met.  His family was the most important part of his life and loved spending time with them.  Your family loves you and we will miss you through eternity.  Soar high my love and soulmate.”

Bloomfield: At age 73, Tom passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020 at his home in Bloomfield. He was born in Kenton, OH, to the late; Floyd and Shirley Jackson. Survived by his children; Laura (Jay) Helker of Bloomfield, NY, Courtney (Shane) White of Ft. Wayne, IN, Daniel (Emily) Jackson of Cheyenne, WY, his grandchildren; Owen Helker, Natalie Helker, Andrew Weber, Jamar White, Finn Jackson, his sister; Dixie (Dale) Epps of Grass Valley, CA and brother Tim Jackson of Mountain Home, ID., along with his long time former spouse and best friend; Sally Jackson of Stuart, FL.

Tom was the ultimate finder of deals, he had a passion for archery, and there was no bass he couldn’t catch. His love for bargains and the outdoors is shared by his children and grandchildren. He will be sorely missed

Timothy Richard Yorks ~ July 22, 2020

Mt. Ulla, North Carolina:  Timothy Richard Yorks, 63, passed away July 22, 2020 at Novant Health Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, North Carolina. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Laura Ruth Kreutter Yorks who he married February 24, 1990; son, Jon (Cary) Pellicane of Attica, NY; daughters, Kristin  (Bradford) Bertoli of Burbank, CA, Carie (Ryan) Fugle of Salisbury, N.C., Leslie Yorks of Livonia, NY; sisters, Laurie (Charles) Wester of Conesus, NY, Julie (Tim) Loomis of Livonia, NY; grandchildren, Reed Fugle, Alanna Pellicane, Natalie Pellicane, Blake Fugle, Avery Fugle, Ellie Fugle, and twins, Nolan and Wyatt Bertoli; and nephews and nieces.

Tim was born October 11, 1956 in Rochester, NY to the late Richard L. and Elizabeth Craft Yorks. He was graduate of Livonia High School.  He spent his life as a dairy farmer on the York’s Family Farm In Livonia, New York and the Foster Family Farm in Cleveland, North Carolina. Aside of his love of agriculture, he loved Shelby Mustangs. 

A private memorial service was held at his home over the weekend. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The American Redcross.

Conesus:  July 17, 2020 at age 58.  Ray was born on December 23, 1961 in Clarkson, NY to the late Stanley and Lois (Yorkey) Simzer.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Stanley “Lee” Simzer.  Survived by his wife Barbara (Bogner) Simzer and sons; Raymond Jr. (Jennifer) Simzer and Adam (Carly) Simzer; grandchildren; Raymond, Darryl, Haile, Lucy, Evan, and Ally; siblings, Mark Simzer, Keith Simzer, and Paul (Carla) Simzer.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ray was born in Clarkson, NY and lived in Rochester, NY in his younger years.  He moved to Conesus, NY in the late 1980’s where he has lived ever since.  Ray loved four wheelers, horses, dogs, fishing, and being outdoors.  He was a machinist for many years working for Kurtz and Zobel and later for FTT.  He will be missed for his sense of humor and sarcasm.

David D. Beckwith “Dave” ~ July 14, 2020

Honeoye: At age 68, Dave passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at his home in Honeoye. He was born in Rochester, NY to the late Dwight and Lavona Beckwith. Survived by his sister; Barbara A. Parmeter, his niece Abigail (Keith) Richardson, his great nephews and niece; Stephen, Daniel, Bradley, Lucas and Penny, along with his cousins and many dear friends.

David moved to Honeoye about 30 years ago and fell in love with the community. He was a member of the Genesee Valley Aeromodelers RC club, an avid photographer, and he loved taking his niece, nephews, and many friends out on his boat. He also loves the summer gazebo concerts and supporting the Honeoye library. David always gave back to the community whenever he could.

West Bloomfield:  At age 51, Kim passed away at her home in West Bloomfield on Saturday, July 11, 2020.  Predeceased by her father; Frank Kirk.  Survived by her beloved husband; Terry Lewis, her daughters; Valerie and Kendall Lewis, her mother; Patricia Kirk, her sister; Ann (Chris) Szafranski and her brother; Kevin Kirk.
