Kathleen “Kay” Joyce McAfee (Dougherty) – May 25, 2025

In Loving Memory of Kathleen “Kay” McAfee (Dougherty)
May 25, 1944 – May 25, 2025
Cornelius, North Carolina/Formerly of Avon, New York

On her 81st birthday, our beloved wife, mom, grandma, and cherished “Aunt Kay” peacefully entered into the arms of her Savior. Kathleen “Kay” Joyce McAfee (Dougherty) passed away peacefully in her home on May 25, 2025.

Kay was the devoted wife of 61 years to Ronald “Ron” E. McAfee, Sr., and the heart and soul of our family. A Devout Catholic, she lived each day with compassion, grace, and an unwavering trust in God. She was a prayer warrior, always ready with encouragement, wisdom, and heartfelt prayers for anyone in need. Her faith was a light in our lives, and her love knew no bounds.

She was a loving mother to Ronald (Sharon) McAfee, Kathleen (Steve) Kroeger, and Karon (Bill) Fontaine, and was predeceased by her son, Robert G. McAfee. Her greatest joy was her family, and she poured her heart into each of her grandchildren: Kiana Tiamson, Adam Johnson, Hope McAfee, Katelyn Tiamson, Trey McAfee, Eric Johnson, and Evan Johnson.

Born on May 25, 1944, to Harold and Phyllis (Burgett) Dougherty, Kay was one of eleven children. She shared a bond with her brothers and sisters: Peter (Barb) Dougherty, Cheryl (Bill) Bryar, Kevin Dougherty, and Pam (Peter) Arrigenna. She was predeceased by her brothers John, Jim, and Jerry; sisters Mary-Jane, Marcia, and Karen.

Kay also helped raise and care for many children over the years who lovingly called her “Aunt Kay.” She was more than a caregiver—she was a nurturer, encourager, and a guiding light. She created a special place in the lives of her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and countless others who were blessed by her presence and love.

Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in every heart she touched. Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing she is home with our Lord—and still watching over us, just as she always did.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” – Matthew 5:8
