Gwendolyn E. Messner “Gwen” – February 7, 2021

Conesus Lake:  At age 95, Gwen passed peacefully on February 7, 2021 at her residence at Morgan Estates in Geneseo, NY.  She was born on March 15, 1925 in Union, Missouri to the late Charles and Ora Blanche Welsh.  In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Richard C. Messner, daughter Jane Noyes, grandsons Jason Noyes and Phillip Noyes, and sister Charlene Cox.  Survived by children; Richard (Marcia) Messner Jr of Norman, OK, Catharine (James) Miles of FL, and Charles (Joanne) Messner of Livonia; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, son-in-law Keith (Laura) Noyes, and several nieces & nephews.

Gwen grew up in Grant City, Missouri graduating from high school and later joining the United States Coast Guard during WWII.   She served from 1944-1946 as part of the USCG SPARS.  Gwen met her husband Richard in the service and they were married in Honolulu on June 13th 1946.  Together they owned and operated Messner Buick Pontiac in Geneseo, NY.

She was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother.  Gwen could often be found on the golf course as she was an avid golfer.  She also enjoyed scrabble, playing bridge, knitting, and gardening.

A Memorial Service to Celebrate her Life will be held on a date to be determined.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Gwen’s memory to Livingston County Hospice or your favorite charity. To send a condolence or share a memory please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com

  1. Charlie and Joanne so sorry to hear about your Mom she as my neighbor at the Park visited her many times at Morgan Estates but most of all enjoyed her company at Golf knitting together playing games and cards and especially her laugh she as a beautiful person and she will be missed

    Gwen was my sweet landlady on Pebble Beach from 1980-85. She was always easy going and kind. I never forgot how good she was to me. So sorry for this great loss in your family.

  6. Aunt Gwen was one of a kind. She had a great sense of humor and raised us some amazing cousins. We will truly miss her and always cherish the memories.

    So sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Gwen did live a long life but it is still hard to lose a loved one.
