Nelson H. Powell Jr. – September 17, 2018

Conesus: Nelson crossed over peacefully on September 17, 2018 at age 73. Predeceased by his parents Nelson & Ruth Powell and sisters; Mary Lou Long, Ruth Wengewicz, and Joy Powell. Survived by his wife of 51 years Patricia (Kozuch) Powell and children; Dawn (Robert) Minemier of Brighton, Melissa (Mark) Clapp of TX, and Nelson H. (Emilia) Powell III of Penfield; grandchildren, Robert Staudinger, Maria & Lara Minemier and Connor & Iliana Powell; his sister Debra Rust-Powell; also survived by his Uncle Jack Reger, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including friends of Bill W.

Nelson was a graduate of Buffalo Catholic schools. At age 15, he met the girl that would steal his heart in a case of mistaken identity when she showed up at his sisters to babysit “his kids”. Nelson ran his namesake construction company for many years before retiring to a short career in real estate. Nelson was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting, and just being with nature. Nelson proudly built the family home after many years on Conesus Lake. After the home was complete, Nelson had numerous gardens – ornamental and vegetable – as well as a house full of orchids. He was very proud of propagating his orchids from seed. If Papa was not in the house, he was in his gardens. Nelson was a man of great spirituality, which he generously shared for 44 years with so many friends of Bill W. This journey was one of the proudest accomplishments of his life, second only to Pat and their children. Nelson will be remembered by Pat and his children and grandchildren for his practical jokes, laughter, the twinkle in his eyes when he laughed, long discussions of faith accompanied by John Denver music, and love.

Friends and family may call on Friday, September 21st, from 12noon- 2pm at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 6591 Richmond Mills Road, Rte 20A, Livonia, NY 14487 where Nelson’s Funeral Mass will be held following calling hours at 2pm. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Nelson’s Memory to St. Matthew Catholic Church, PO Box 77, Livonia, NY 14487 or to Livonia Ambulance, PO Box 8, Livonia, NY 14487.
