Carl R. Johnston – February 2, 2025

Avon:  Carl was born on January 15, 1953 in Warsaw, NY and passed at his home in Avon, NY on February 2, 2025, at age 72.  He was predeceased by his parents William and Jane (Lacey) Johnston and his brother Clifford Johnston. 

Survived by his companion of many years, Norma Pellegrino of Avon; daughter Lacey Johnston of Avon; grandchildren, Brandon, Jack, Owen, and Hayden; brothers, Bill (Judy) Johnston of FL, John (Roxanne) Johnston of Brockport, and Donald Johnston (Louana) of AZ.  Also survived by Norma’s children and grandchildren – Carl’s extended family; April (Matt) Payne, Michael (Samantha) Pellegrino, Matthew (Samantha) Pellegrino; Alex, Shelby, Wyatt, and Mikayla.  Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including close friend Mike Altonberg, and his “fur kids” Sayde & Satchmo.

Carl was a graduate of Livonia Central School class of 1971.  From there he joined the Army National Guard and served from 1971-1977. Carl worked and retired as a Maintenance Mechanic at the NYSDOT in Lakeville, NY.  The stories told of those days, by Carl, and his coworkers would have you laughing for hours.

His hobbies included hunting with his father and brothers, fishing, golf, bowling, riding his motorcycle, travelling, playing euchre and cooking. He made the best soups ever! Carl never gave in to his failing health, he fought, lived, and loved wholeheartedly.

A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 1st, at Union Cemetery, Rte 256, Scottsburg, NY.  Rev. Brian Johnston will be the officiant.  Following the cemetery service there will be a gathering and luncheon at the Avon Veterans Hall, 5480 Avon E.
