Joseph C. Polizzi – October 25, 2024

Dansville: At age 88, Joseph passed away with his family by his side on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Teresa House in Geneseo, NY. He was born in Avon, NY to the late Joseph and Adele (Amato) Polizzi. Joseph is predeceased by his wife; Nancy Polizzi, his son; Ret. Lt. Col. Stephen Polizzi, his 5 brothers and sisters and 2 brothers in law.   Joe is survived by his children; Laura (Tim) Anderson of Dansville, NY, David (Linda) Polizzi of Livonia, NY, Matt (Jennifer)Polizzi of Avon, NY, his daughter-in-law; Hellen Polizzi, and his sister-in law Carol Roffe and Sister-in-law Judy (Jerry) Lynn.   Grandchildren; Amber (Capt. Victor Downing Jr.) Downing, Kristen Polizzi, Michaela Anderson (Tyler Hockenberger), Timothy “T.C.” Anderson, Samara Anderson, Joseph Polizzi, Thomas Polizzi, Emily Polizzi, Nolan Polizzi, Russell Polizzi, his great-grandchildren; Victor “Trey” Downing III, Carter Downing, Emilia Downing, Howard Downing along with several nieces and nephews.

Joe graduated from Avon High School in 1954 and later Rochester Institute of Technology with his degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He worked for General Railway Signal for 44 years prior to it becoming Alstom.   Joe & Nancy lived in Retsof for 45 years before downsizing to Varsity Park in Dansville.   Joe spent his last 3 ½ years on his daughter’s farm in Dansville enjoying the fresh air, views and his plethora of animal friends.

Joe was extremely talented and active person enjoying 50+ years of Tai-Chi, Fly-fishing,  and pheasant hunting however his favorite was Golf which he played into his mid-80’s.  He was an accomplished woodcarver of ducks, fish and birds, and earned a couple blue & red ribbons from Genesee Valley Woodcarving competitions. 

In keeping with Joe’s wishes, no formal funeral services will take place at this time. His Celebration of Life will be held in the spring on his birthday and will be announced.
