David H. Hall – May 1, 2024

Livonia/Rochester:  At age 82, David H. Hall passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2024.  He was born on March 26, 1942 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Harold O. and Lucille (Peters) Hall.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Richard “Lefty” Hall and sister, Jane Hall, Lt. Col. ANG/USAF Retired.  Survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Frances “Fran” (Tabakis) Hall and children; John (Stacy) Hall of Grand Haven, Michigan and Christine (Josh Duthie) Hall of Syracuse, NY; grandchildren, Ashlyn (Leif) Nuesken, Breckan Hall, Hannah Duthie, and Zoe Duthie.  Also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dave was affectionately known to his family and high school friends as “Pete,” and as “Silkman” by his co-workers and softball buddies from Monroe Savings Bank where he worked as a Real Estate Appraiser for over 20 years.  He lived in the city of Rochester for over 40 years, and retired to Livonia, NY in 2014.

He served in the US Army Reserves, volunteered for Pop Warner football, drove his two children everywhere (well into their 40s), volunteered for Begin Again Horse Rescue, and was an active member of the Conesus Lake Sportsman Club.

Dave enjoyed spending time with friends and being part of a team.  He bowled, played softball and golfed.  Dave’s happiest times were spent doing the simplest things.  He loved fishing at Waneta Lake, listening to the White Sox games being called on the radio, tending to his pumpkin and tomato gardens, and driving to his hometown of Barnesville, Ohio where he always felt most at home with his mother Lucille and siblings, Lefty and Jane.

In 1969 he married Fran and was introduced to the boisterous world of “Greek” culture.  He was adored by his mother-in-law, Katherine, who was honored to be his Godmother when he converted to the Greek Orthodox faith.  Her only request was that he one day might consider changing his last name to “Haldoupis.”

Family and friends may call on Saturday, May 11th, from 11am-1pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 15 & 20A, Livonia, where a Blessing Service will be held at 1pm, following calling hours.  Burial will be held privately at Temple Hill Cemetery, Geneseo, NY.   In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Livonia Ambulance, PO Box 8, Livonia, NY 14487 or Begin Again Horse Rescue, PO Box 28, Honeoye, NY 14471.  To send a condolence or share a memory please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com

  1. RIP Pete. You have always been a friend. I remember a few years ago you welcomed Nancy and me to visit your home in New York (and you weren’t even there). You told us how to get in go and through your home. So appreciative of that. Fun days playing nickel, dime poker in the little league dugouts behind the sale barn. We had a lot of good times together! I will certainly miss you.

  2. I met David when he introduced himself as my neighbor after I moved across the road from him and his wife in Livonia. I enjoyed talking to him and am so sorry to hear of his passing. Thoughts and prayers to all his family.

  3. The Veterans Outreach Center extends our deepest sympathy in David’s passing.
We acknowledge and are truly grateful for his service to our country.

  4. So sorry to hear of Pete’s passing. Always looked forward to seeing him at his Mother’s house in Barnesville on North Chestnut. Many fond memorizes of Pete and the Hall family.

  5. Pete was a long time friend ( at least 70 years) going all the way back to the days when we would hang out at his Mom and Dad’s local market that would end up in playing baseball most days. We played Little League baseball together, high school baseball and High School basketball together and Pete was the Ultimate Teammate. He was a quiet and soft spoken guy but a fierce competitor. I will always remember Pete as a Barnesville guy, a true Shamrock that found happiness and a FAMILY in New York but never forgot where he grew up. Rest in Peace Pete, your memory will be a BLESSING TO MANY.

  6. Dear Fran, Chrissy, Josh, Hannah,Zoe and Family: Gary and I send our prayers to all of you in a difficult time. We were so fortunate to have met David!! He was such a fantastic person- father – husband – grandfather and a friend to everyone he met. Life goes by so fast but what great memories you have of such a great guy to pass down to your families. I loved talking about birds with him. Gary and your Dad got along so well. They are a lot a like. He will be missed but never forgotten!!!

  7. RIP Pete. I remember the good old days learning about life with you in Barnesville. Thanks for being a friend. tt

  8. Thinking of you all, losing David.
Jane was one of my closest friends.
Lefty and Pete were the kindest Big Brothers to all of Jane’s friends.

  10. I just remember that every time I saw Pete he was smiling. I am sorry for your loss.
    A Barnesville friend.

  11. My sincere sympathy, Fran, and Family. You’re right, he did enjoy the simple things like watching Pirate Spring Training when you came to your Time Share in Orlando…such an easy-going man I was pleased to know for a short time.
