Livonia: At age 81, Nancy passed on February 1, 2022 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. She was born on March 29, 1940 in Warsaw, NY to the late Raymond and Katharyn (Walker) Briggs. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her first husband Douglas Welch and her brother John Briggs. Survived by her husband, Christopher Rider; her daughter Sarah (Thomas) Lauder of Plantation, FL; and granddaughters, Katharyn and Madilene Lauder. Nancy is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Having earned an undergraduate degree at Wilson College and her master’s degree from Alfred University, Nancy’s career spanned 35 years teaching math at Honeoye Central School. Nancy was quick to volunteer her time and resources to those in need whether giving her time to hospice patients at Teresa House, serving in various capacities at St. Michael’s Church in Geneseo or coming to the aid of family, friends or critters. Wherever she saw the need, she gave generously. Throughout her life, she was an enthusiastic lover of the outdoors and of all of its plants and creatures. Her devotion to animals was well recognized from nurturing ill or orphaned wildlife as a rehabilitator or simply taking in another stray cat.
Nancy will be remembered for her quick witted, often whimsical sense of humor, brilliant smile and “gift of gab”. Her zeal for life was infectious and she lived her life in her “uniquely Nancy” way. We are grateful for the many unforgettable ways that her life touched and joined ours.
Nancy’s Memorial Service will be held at 11AM, on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 23 Main St., Geneseo, followed by a reception at the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church Community Room. Burial will then follow at Temple Hill Cemetery, Geneseo, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the SusieQ Dog ResQ, PO Box 236, Conesus, NY 14435 or the Begin Again Horse Rescue, PO Box 28, Honeoye, NY 14471. A great and stern math teacher. She made you understand the theories of mathematics and geometry plus trig. I was grateful to be her student teacher my senior year yet she signed my yearbook as being absent minded.
Loved her as my math teacher was a stunning women and always kind to all of us1975! So sorry for her family’s loss
I’m so saddened to hear of Nancy’s passing. My heart goes out to you Chris, Sarah and family. Our conversations often revolved around our critters! I think Nancy would adopt them all! I admire her spirit!
I’ve always considered myself very lucky to have had Mrs. Welch for all of my math classes at HCS (my brother wasn’t as lucky). She always kept me interested and entertained and I loved her sly wit and sarcasm! She was one of my favorites. And I know I’m not alone in singing her praises. RIP Mrs. Welch and my sincerest sympathy to her family and friends.

Chris and Sarah. So sorry to hear of Nancy’s passing. We have so many fond memories from over the years
I lived across the street from Nancy, her family and all of her animals. I especially remember Amanda and Beauregard herr two basset hounds who were always with her waddling across the road to be near the water. My sympathy to Sarah and the rest of Nancy’s family.

Class of ’74.
Sarah and Chris,
Nancy was an icon amongst teachers during our years at HCS. As we sent out the sad word to our former classmates- the common response was,” She was the best!!” The word of Nancy’s passing also prompted many memories to be recalled- some funny, some lessons learned fr her. The general consensus
is she was loved by so many.
Prayers for peace in the difficult days ahead.
Know her memory lives on with so many.

My sincerest condolence to Chris and Sarah. I am so sad to hear this terrible news. I met Nancy at St Michaels and we played in the St Michaels Steel Band together which is when we actually became friends. I loved her enough to make her the God Mother of my daughter, Melissa. I will miss our chats. RIP, my friend. Until we meet again.
