Honeoye Falls: Michael Joseph Barnhoorn, age 60 of Honeoye Falls, peacefully passed away on August 31, 2021, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Loved ones that will miss Mike until they meet again include his daughter, US Army Staff Sgt. Suzanne W. (Patrick) Beardslee, one grandson, Flynn E. Beardslee; four siblings, twin brother, Daniel J. (Andrea) Barnhoorn of Scottsville, Stephen A. Barnhoorn of Honeoye, Bart J. Barnhoorn of Honeoye Falls, and Toni (James) Sloan of Avon; two nieces, Nickki L. Barnhoorn (Russell Johnson) and Lydia A. (Christopher) Wright; two nephews, Elliott J. Guthrie and US Army 2nd Lt. Christopher W. Barnhoorn; great-niece and great-nephews; and many cousins in the Netherlands and Texas.
Mike’s life story began on August 2, 1961, as the oldest twin son born to the late Bart J. and Rebecca Y.M. (Wilcox) Barnhoorn at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. The childhood years for Mike were spent growing up with his siblings on Honeoye Lake and at the family home on White Road in the Town of Richmond.
On June 22, 1979, Mike and his twin brother Dan graduated from Honeoye Central School. During his school years, Mike was a member of Boy Scout Troop 10 in Honeoye, Rocket Club, and the Wrestling team. Following graduation from high school, Mike was the Store Manager at the former Treble’s Red and White, Honeoye. In addition, Mike also worked part-time as a bartender at the Briarcliff Room restaurant.
In 1987, Mike moved on to another job as a Punch Press Operator at Stever-Locke Industries in Honeoye Falls. At the time of his passing, Mike was a 25-year employee at Star Headlight & Lantern Company in Avon as head of the Metal Fabrication Department. Throughout his career, Mike was highly regarded and valued for his strong work ethic.
Over the years, Mike resided in West Bloomfield, Canadice, Scottsville and Honeoye Falls. An avid gardener like his late father, Mike was known for his green thumb. He also enjoyed ice fishing, hiking, hunting, collecting antiques, watching football games on Sunday afternoons, and most importantly, spending quality time with family. On the lighter side, Mike had a colorful, robust sense of humor, enjoyed pulling pranks, and making people laugh.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 11AM on Tuesday, September 7th, 2021 at St. Mary’s Church, 8961 Main Street in Honeoye, Rev. William F. Laird, officiating. Stephen Barnhoorn will deliver the eulogy. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Honeoye. I know how proud of your brother Mike you are and always will be- and Mike was as equally proud of his loving family. Amen
Worked with Mike for many years at Star Headlight. He was the nicest guy and a blast to work with. Always had a kind word (or joke). He was a bit of a weather buff too, and would run into the office with “what’s on the radar!” if things got ugly off to the west!. Thoughts and prayers for his family, in Jesus name, Amen .We’ll miss you brother 🙁 See you on the other side…
To the Barnhoorn family,
I’m so sorry to hear of Mikes passing, gone too soon. I recently reconnected with Mike on FB and loved seeing his green thumb and beautiful garden. He shared sweet memories of my Mom, Vivian and their fun friendship, for which I was thankful after her passing . My prayers go out to you all.

Stephen, Toni, Dan, and the whole of the Barnhoorn Family,
I have no idea what it’s like to loose a brother, but I do know the pain of a loss that occurs far too early in life.
I didn’t know Michael, but from all I have heard and read, he was one very special human; funny, smart, fun, a lover of the earth and all it produced. May you always find him in these things and may your memories of him soon begin to bring you more smiles than tears.
May God grant you all the comfort you need to meet the days ahead and divine strength for the immediate task of bidding farewell. AMEN.

Steve and the Barnhoorn family,
You have our deepest sympathy for your loss of Michael. We fondly remember the times your family would be playing in your yard at the lake and even though there were many of you your Mom would have our kids join in. You all were so close and stood up for each other. Very rare these days.

Mike,
You were my very special big brother. I will forever miss the joy and laughter we shared. Even during your illness, you always found a way to make me laugh.
Every time I look at a rose or a sunflower, I will think of you and your love for all things green. I trust that you are watching from above, enjoying the ocean and fishing for all eternity.
Until we meet again, I love you and miss you. Rest in peace.
