Susan (Sue) Spadaro, age 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at the Le Roy Village Green Nursing Home. She was born on January 17, 1925, in Frackville, PA, to the late Joseph and Fannie (Keitsock) Stoppi. Sue was predeceased by her beloved husband Samuel J. Spadaro and was the last survivor of 13 children.
Sue left her childhood home during WWII to attend nurse training at the Bellevue Medical Center in New York City. Upon completion, she relocated to the Batavia VA Medical Center where she began her career as a Registered Nurse. It was there that she met her husband of 70 years, who had just returned home from the war.
Sue spent her lifetime caring for others. She was the nurse at the Jell-O Factory, LeRoy High School and then eventually at Edith Hartwell Clinic, known today as Mercy Grove. After her retirement, she continued to care for her family. When her sons were grown, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her five great-grandchildren. At any given time, you could find her cooking, baking or babysitting, even well into her 80s. Sue’s family will most remember her for her strong faith, her awesome pies and never being afraid to let you know what was on her mind.
Sue is survived by her sons, Thomas (Gina) Spadaro and James Spadaro; her grandchildren, Amy (Daniel) Vanderhoof, Joseph (Nikki) Spadaro; her great-grandchildren, Sydney Vanderhoof, Zachary Vanderhoof, Joseph Spadaro, Dominic Spadaro and Anthony Spadaro; and her sister-in-law Lillian Spadaro Irrera.
A celebration of life service will take place in the spring. To share a memory or condolence, please visit: www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com Memorial contributions may be made in Sue’s name to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1 E Main St, Le Roy, NY 14482.
