Roger W. Harris – December 10, 2019

 

Avon, NY/Davie, FL:  Roger passed peacefully December 10, 2019 at age 95.  Predeceased by his wife Anne (Mustari) Harris and siblings; George T. Harris and Rosemary Hohu.  Survived by his daughter Roxanne Moran of Avon; grandchildren; Traci (Dominick) D’Alessandro of Deer Park, NY, Kathryn “Katie” (Chad) Smith of Livonia, Matthew (Danielle) Moran of Avon; great-grandchildren, Gianna, Joseph, and Michael D’Alessandro, Aidan and Jack Smith, and Christopher, Connor, and Emma Moran.

Roger was born on October 5, 1924 in Washington Mills, NY to parents William and Mary Harris.  He was raised on a farm in Ilion, NY and graduated from Ilion High School in 1942.  After high school he went to Morrisville College where he studied farming.  In 1943, during WWII, he joined the US Army Air Corps.  Roger was an aircraft mechanic and was stationed in China and served with General Chennault and the Flying Tigers.  After his service he stayed there as a Liberation Army General.

Roger was never one to stay still.  He was in the automotive business for many years owning used car dealerships and also gas stations in Caledonia and LeRoy.  He was also a long time truck driver and construction worker.  When trucking he loved the open road and traveling the United States.  During the 1980’s and 1990’s he was associated with H.S. Edinger & Sons Trucking, Tully, NY.  In his later years Roger spent many years in Davie, Florida where he loved the warm air and sunshine.

A Graveside Service, with military honors, will be held at 3pm on Friday, December 13th, at Bath National Cemetery, San Juan Avenue, Bath, NY.
