Mount Morris: At age 93, Lonn passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the Livingston County CNR in Mount Morris, NY. He was born on November 14, 1930, in Coldspring, New York to the late Dana and Elsie Rathbun. Lonn is predeceased by his sisters, Mary Sherman and Thelma Bailey. Survived by his children, James (Mary Jane) Rathbun, Sue Ellen Rathbun, and Michael (Jill) Rathbun, and his 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Shortly after graduating from York High School, Lonn went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force. He was a Koren War Veteran and served his country for 14 years. After his honorable discharge in 1965, he went on to work as a computer supervisor at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
UPDATE: A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be announced and take place at a later date at South Dansville United Methodist Church, 9667 County Road 46 in Arkport, NY with Pastor Greg White as celebrant. A Celebration of Life Gathering will take place immediately following Lonn’s Memorial Service at The Gathering Place. Dear Sue and family, Our hearts are very heavy for the loss of your father and grandfather. My mother-in-law Lucille Wilfeard was a good friend of Lonnie’s whom she had known since he was 11. He would call her almost daily to say hi and check on her when he could. My mother-in-law would always cherish his calls. While I didn’t have the privilege of knowing Lonnie personally, I spoke with him on several occasions when he would call her. He was such a nice man to talk to. He was always so concerned about her. I know that Lonnie is rejoicing in heaven with the Lord, and does not have to suffer anymore. Your dad was such a wonderful man to have served our country for so many years.
