Joan Estelle Luckenbach – June 30, 2023

Livonia:  At age 93, Joan passed peacefully on June 30, 2023 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.  She was born on March 29, 1930 in Conesus, NY to the late Harold and Evelyn (Hayes) Wester.  In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Norman Luckenbach, son Robert Luckenbach, daughter Sheila Gordon; grandchildren, Tammy Gordon, Jamie Gordon, and Jeremy Churchfield; her brother Harold Wester, and daughter-in-law Rachael Luckenbach.

Survived by her children; Sharon (Doug) Churchfield of Groveland, Mary (Ralph) Allison of Livonia, and Jim (Patty) Luckenbach of Wayland; 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; her twin sisters, Jean (Jim) Turner and Jane (Al) Kane; also survived by her sister-in-law Joyce Wester, many nieces, nephews, friends, and her church community at the United Methodist Church of Livonia.

Joan was never without a smile and throughout her life she encouraged her family and friends to have a positive attitude.  She was a Godly and caring person and always tried to be helpful to others.  Joan attended and volunteered at the Livonia Methodist Church for many years including helping with Rotary dinners, church dinners, the Thrift Shop, and “MOPS” Mothers of Preschoolers.  Joan worked for Niagara Mohawk, which later became National Grid, from which she retired.  Most of all she was a loving, caring, and supportive mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Joan’s Memorial Service will be held at 10am on Friday, July 14th, at the United Methodist Church of Livonia, 21 Summers Street, Livonia, NY.  Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Livonia.  A reception will be held at the Fellowship Hall and all are welcome.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the Livonia Public Library, PO Box 202, Livonia, NY 14487 or the Livonia Ambulance, PO Box 8, Livonia, NY 14487.  To send a condolence or share a memory please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com

  1. Joanie was a wonderful person. She always had a smile and a giggle for everyone. It was a pleasure to have her as a coworker at NiMo.No doubt she is smiling down at her family full of love for all of them.

  2. Dear Mary! I am so sad to hear about your mom! Your mom and my mom were “besties”! I was just thinking about you and your lovely family the other day. All the fun that we had! Camping at Darien Lake before it was an amusement park! Missing y’all! Praying peace and comfort for you!
