William R. VanDerMeid, 85, of Livonia June 23, 2010. Bill was born August 22, 1944, the third and final son of Clarence and Florence Clapp VanDerMeid. He and his brothers, Edward and Robert grew up on Main Street, Livonia. They worked with their father on the family farm which consisted of 40 acres of the rich muck land in South Livonia, growing celery and onions there for shipping all over this country.
After graduating from Livonia Central School, Bill spent time at Cornell Univeristy, continuing to work with his father. He married his school sweetheart, Shirley on March 1, 1947. Bill and Shirley raised their two children on Main Street Livonia. Bill worked for a while at Kodak, but hated the commute. He purchased additional muck land, growing potatoe and other crops for Western New York stores. Later, Bill sold and repaired dairy equipment for DeLaval all over Monroe, Ontario and Livingston Counties, eventually oning his own lawn moving business.
Survived by his wife of 63 years Shirley VanDerMeid. Son James (Shirley) VanDerMeid of Wayland and daughter Lynda Robinson of Livonia. Grandchildren: Michael (Shamrock) VanDerMeid of Livonia, Nicole VanDerMeid of Frederick, MD, Timothy (Cassandra) Robinson of Avon, Daniel (Justine) Robinson of Summerville, SC and Kristina Robinson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. 8 Great-Grandchildren,brother in laws, sister in laws, nieces & nephews,former daughter in law Donna Rodgers, and many friends.
Bill was a long time member of the Livonia Fire Department volunteering services since 1942. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Livonia and was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge. The family would like to thank the Conesus Lake Nursing Home for their wonderful care of dad while he was a resident there.
