Georg P. Heck – December 14, 2018

Lima:  December 14, 2018 at age 52.  Predeceased by his parents Heinz and Irina (Dolgov) Heck and his mother-in-law Karen Webb.  Survived by his wife of 20 years Kimberly (Webb) Heck and children; Julia and Samuel Heck; sister Margarete (William Earnshaw) Heck; in-laws James (Sydney) Webb; brothers-in-law Michael Webb and Jeffery (Jill) Webb; nieces, nephews, many dear friends.

Georg was born on April 26, 1966 in Albany, NY to parents Heinz and Irina Heck.  He grew up on the Catskill Game Farm in Catskill, NY.  Georg’s dad was the director there and although Georg spent much of his time caring for the animals this is where his love of ‘big trucks’ began.  At the age of 18 he got his Class A CDL and started moving zoo animals across the US.  Georg decided that he should get his degree in zoology to follow the footsteps of his father and grandfather.  Georg graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1988 and worked in the zoo industry for many years.

Although Georg enjoyed working at the zoo, he could not get ‘trucking’ out of his blood. He went on to spend 15 years in freight sales before deciding to start a trucking company of his own.  In November of 2012 he started Blue Heron Logistics along with his wife Kim.  Georg loved the industry! He could not wait to find a new customer to show them how great the trucking industry can be.

Georg lived for his family and friends.  He was an amazing father and husband.  Georg was honest, funny, emotional, caring, and loyal to a fault.  If you needed his help, or even if you did not, he was there to lend a hand and give you advice.  He loved posting jokes on Facebook and was well known for I-W-F-D (it’s what’s for dinner).  In his very short life Georg was able to touch so many lives.  He will truly be missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, December 22nd, 2018 at the United Methodist Church of Livonia, 21 Summers Street, Livonia, NY.  Burial will be held privately in the future.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Lima Ambulance, PO Box 335, Lima, NY 14485 or the Livonia Ambulance, PO Box 8, Livonia, NY 14487.  To send a condolence or share a memory please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com

  2. I couldn’t believe it when I heard about George. I didn’t get to meet him but, I talked to him several times on the phone. He took the time to listen about my trucking business and Give me some ideas. He will be missed.

  3. Kim, Julia and Sam:

We were so saddened to hear the news about Georg. We’re sorry for your loss and if we could take away an ounce of your pain, we would.
Georg was a great husband, Dad and friend. His smile and laugh were like no other. It didn’t matter what kind of rush we were in, whenever our paths crossed, we always stopped to say hello to one another and Georg undoubtedly had a story to tell, a lesson to learn, and a laugh to share.
He will be missed by countless friends and family across the country and if you need anything at all, please just ask.
    Our sincerest condolences ,
Mike Kelly, Catherine and Andrew Kinnard

  4. These were the first thoughts that came to mind when I heard: WTF? HOW? Why? Poor Kim and Sam and Julia. WAAAAY too soon. Unbelievable.

And these are the words that pop into my head when I think of Georg and see his beautiful smiling face on this obituary: Sweet; Caring; Kind; In love with Kim, Julia, and Sam; Enthusiastic; Giving; Friendly to new faces (and old); Fun; Happy; ALWAYS fun to talk to; Loving of LIFE; Smart; clever; Ambitious; Courageous; Dream-following; Do-er; Hard-working and Successful in LIFE. And, I didn’t even spend much time with him, or know him for most of his wonderfully interesting life.

The last time I saw him was a couple of months ago, in a quick encounter at Wegmans. As always, he had a great story that made me smile, and I was inspired and thrilled to learn how well he and Blue Heron were doing.

I can only imagine how sorely he is missed by those who knew and loved him most dearly. We all (even those who didn’t yet have the pleasure of getting to know him) will miss out on the chance to interact with him forever.

My heartfelt condolences to the Heck and Webb families, and all of his many close, dear, long-time friends.

  5. It was such a pleasure knowing Georg, his friendship meant the world to me. He was such a unique individual and his untimely passing leaves a void in so many places that he touched during his short time here.

  6. When I met Georg through our interest in horse trading old tractors, we discovered we were both in transportation, and over the years had shared many mutual friends. When he told me of his plan to go out into a tough business independently, I knew that if there was one guy that had the knowledge, the drive, the planning and the right attitude about customer service, the proper way to be in trucking, it was Georg. Watching his family business grow was great fun. He has always been a good friend to me, and later, to my son. My sympathy to his family is boundless, because the man was just such a big presence. God bless.

  7. Lost for words
    Always had great advice
When I needed help I didn’t know him at the time he jumped in to help
    His jokes
    His laughter
    His handshake
Always down for a bite to eat
He was a mentor a idol
    Spoke highly of his family
This world isn’t the same without you

We talked several times on the phone and in person when I was delivering in upstate.

  14. I have known Georg for many years – first as a young man trying to find his way, then over many subsequent years as he grew and developed into a dedicated and hard-working husband, father and friend. I’m sure that many will remark that he was incredibly gifted with his hands. If it had moving parts, then Georg could fix it. But he was also extremely intelligent, with the ability to make incisive comments that could cut through the fog in arguments. I’m not saying that I always agreed with him – but I always respected his opinion.

For Georg, family always came first, and there were times when that affected his career choices. At times, he could have pushed things further, but unselfishly held back in order to have more time for his family. So I think that for all of us, it was really wonderful to see how things had really come together in recent years with the inception and subsequent success of Blue Heron Logistics. I was really proud of my brother-in-law who could move things that were just too precious for normal people to even dream of handling – from MRI machines to works of art. It is unthinkable that we have lost him – so I refuse to let that happen. Georg is going to live on through his wonderful family but also in the stories and memories that so many of us share. Here is one:

It was late in the evening when Georg pulled into our driveway in Parkton, Maryland with a truck carrying a polar bear cub bound for the Baltimore Zoo the next day (I think his name was Magnet). Somehow, my neighbour Dick, a State Trooper, was told about this (us bragging, no doubt), and he showed up with several drunken Canadian Mounties who just happened to be visiting. They all started going on about how much experience they had with polar bears, and how they knew how to handle them. Of course, they all kept reaching through the bars to try and pet the bear. I will never forget Georg standing there calmly saying “I don’t think that is a very good idea!”. Luckily no one lost their arm, but I’m sure that he had a dream or two later that night.

You take care on this infinite journey, Georg. You will always live on in my thoughts and heart. – Bill
