Frank J. McGowan ~ September 11, 2018

Honeoye: Frank J. McGowan (Voice of the Bulldogs), passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 after a valiant battle with leukemia. Frank was holding hands with his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, his wife Mary and was surrounded by those he loved.

Frank was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 19, 1945 to John F. McGowan and Helen M. (Crowley) McGowan. He is predeceased by his parents, his brother John, his brothers-in-law Walter Mykins and Ronald Bryant, and his in-laws Charlie and Elsie Farrell.

Frank is survived by his best friend and wife for 57 years Mary E. (Farrell) McGowan; his children, Mark F. McGowan of Honeoye, Maureen M. McGowan of Lima, Mary Beth (Rick) Cornish of Lima and his Princess Christine Lynn; his grandchildren, Kelsy, Hailey and Zachary Cornish; his sister Helen Mykins of Rochester; his sisters-in-law, Theresa (Pat) O’Hanlon and Jeanette Bryant; brothers-in-law, Philip Farrell, Edward (Peg) Farrell, Jim (Sue) Farrell, many nieces and nephews who he loved very much and his close friends Rick Breen, Ron Goodman, Ron Edgerton, Walt Baker and Lou Levesque who helped him so much during his illness, and his jelly-belly loving dog Kramer.

Friends may call on Friday, September 14th, from 3-7pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 8624 Main Street, Rte 20A, Honeoye, NY. Frank’s Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 15th, 10:30am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 8961 Main Street, Rte 20A, Honeoye. Private burial St. Michael’s Cemetery, Livonia. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Livingston-Wyoming ARC, C/O the Day Hab Program, 18 Main Street, Mt.     My deepest sympathies to all of you. Many fond memories come to mind of both of you too many to write down. Praying you find peace and solice knowing he’s watching over you all.

    My heartfelt condolences go out to you all at this sad time. I pray that God’s peace, as well as the love and kindness from friends and one another, will surround each of you and bring you comfort.

  3. Friends.

    Some years back Frank read what I had posted concerning the passing of another of our beloved classmate and asked that, if he himself passed before me, if I could try REAL HARD to think of something nice to say about him too! I allowed that I could. Here is just one story of his kindness.

    In one of my father’s hospital stays, he did not have his reading glasses with him. In trying to contact me, the hospital somehow reached Frank. Frank got right in his car, drove to Honeoye Falls to get the glasses, and then drove them to the Canandaigua hospital. Just what we country folk do, according to him. Indeed.

    How fortunate to know people who not only DO kind things, but do them automatically. Frank will be missed.

  4. Very sad to hear of Franks passing. Frank use to come into a dealership that I once worked at. It was always a pleasure to talk to him when he came in. He always had a story and smile. Glad to have know him.

  8. Dear Mary and family – we are so saddened of hearing of Frankies (as we affectionately called him here at Pooler) passing. What a very brave battle he fought and was always so open about what he was going through and still worked hard even if he wasn’t feeling well. He certainly will be missed here at work.
