Conesus Lake: Peacefully on January 1, 2017, at age 91 years, surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his wife Winifred Woodruff in 2014. Survived by his children; Dr. J. David (Linda) Woodruff, Gary (Mary) Woodruff, and Mark (Lani) Woodruff all of Livonia. 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, brother Donald (Janice) Woodruff of Livonia, and several nieces & nephews.
John was a master at all he did. First and foremost he was a family man. When it came to his boys, there was nothing he didn’t teach them and no stronger bond. He began his career as a draftsman at Gleason works in Rochester. He then earned his degree in education and became a teacher in Endicott NY, and later a school administrator in Jamestown city school district.
If ever you were looking for him, he could be found in an open field flying his model airplanes or in his barn creating a remarkable timeline of the history of McPherson point. McPherson point was home for the Woodruff family. John enjoyed visiting with all the doggies on the point. He always had a special treat for each one. His ability to crack a joke and his infectious laugh will forever be cherished.
Friends are invited to attend John’s Memorial Service on Saturday, January 7th, at 1pm at the United Methodist Church of Livonia, 21 Summers Street, Livonia. Private burial Union Cemetery, Livonia. Memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to the United Methodist Church of Livonia, PO Box 23, Livonia, NY 14487. To send a condolence or share a memory please visit:
