Mt. Morris: January 20, 2016 at age 54 years Bill passed peacefully at home with family at his side. Predeceased by his parents Carl G. & Jean Sackett and his mother-in-law Inez Summers. Survived by his wife of 25 years Gina Sackett and children; Justin Gilg (Tonia Dean) of Churchville and Christopher Gilg (Stephanie Pierce) of Mt. Morris. Beloved grandchildren; Chloe & Teaghan Gilg and Gadge & Sklyer Savastano. Sisters; Sally Richards of LA, Nancy (David) Cone of GA, and Virginia (Luigi) Sackett-Montagna of PA. Uncle James (Carol) Sackett of NC, Brother-in-law Anthony (Kim) Gailmard of MD, dear friend and dive mentor Joe Plano of Lakeville, several nieces, cousins, and many friends.

Bill graduated from Geneseo Central School in 1980 and joined the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Geneseo, NY in 1984. He was a dedicated deputy sheriff having almost 30 years of service. He was an active leader and member of the Underwater Search and Rescue Team.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 30th, at 10:30am at the United Methodist Church of Livonia, 21 Summers Street, Livonia, NY followed by a Celebration of Life Gathering at the Lakeville Fire Department Training Grounds, 5939 Stone Hill Road, Lakeville, NY.   1. So very sorry to the whole family for loss of a great soul. Our mom’s were sisters-in-law that brought us to know each other. Many fun times together hanging out, making music tapes and roller skating, of course. You became an honorable man and role model. You always shared yourself with others. May you rest in peace my friend.

  2. I just wanted to say how sorry I am for the loss of such an amazing man! He will be truly missed. I wish we had been able to finish the boat together! He was a true friend and mentor as he gave me a bright outlook even in the darkest of times! I miss you buddy but will never forget you! My heart and prayers are with you all! God bless!!!

  4. To all his family and friends I’m so sorry for your loss. I meet Bill when I did work weekends at Lcj. He always joked around but never lost sight of getting the job done,which made him fun to work with. He was a hard worker, a kind man and treated everyone with equal respect, even if others did not think you deserved it. To all that knew him I hope you walked away with some of his fine traits and some fond memories. I know I did. We will miss you Bill.

  7. Billy you will be greatly missed!!! I will never forget you “trying” to teach me to roller skate at Longpoint!!! You never gave up, but I never was able to do very well. You always stayed young at heart… Wegmans parking lot running with the cart and jumping on for the ride!! Love and prayers to the family!!! You will always be in our hearts, rest in peace Billy!!!

  8. Bill was an amazing, kind and genuinely caring person. Going to visit someone in jail is a hard enough experience and you yourself are sometimes treated like scum but Bill respected everyone. He left footprints on everyone’s heart that he met. He will be greatly missed.

  9. I met Bill when my son was in LCJ… He made my visits easier to handle with his funny ways and kindness. He actually cared about the visitors coming to see their loved ones… May he soar with the Angels

  10. Billy Sackett was a wonderful colleague, officer and human being who set the standard for living. A true and loyal man that lived life to the fullest and helped everyone, rest in peace and honored glory.

  11. I consider myself extraordinarily fortunate to have had 17 years to get to know Bill. He was a good cop and a great man. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Rest in peace, Billy.

  12. Bill was a very good friend of our niece Suzanne, her brothers Steve,Doug and Tim Ehmann.. There were not too many times when we were together that Bill wasn’t around ..
