Rochester: Passed away on November 4, 2015 at age 73. He is survived by his wife Vicki, son Brian (Allison) Nicholson, daughter Megan (Thomas) Walters, four wonderful grandchildren, Liam, Henry, Morgan, and Eleanor (EV), sister Susan (Jonathan) Siegel, brother Thomas (Josephine) Nicholson, and six nieces and nephews.
John was born to John and Doris Nicholson in Kalamazoo, MI in 1941. He spent his childhood in Royal Oak, MI and Eastchester, NY with his younger siblings Susan and Tom. He completed undergraduate and graduate degrees at Colgate University.
He married Vicki Bauer in 1966 and after completing graduate school, they settled in southern Maryland. While there he worked in college administration, but more importantly was captivated by the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay, which began a lifelong interest in being on the water.
In 1980, he returned to New York and pursued a career in human resource management which spanned 30 years.
Residing in Pleasantville, he and Vicki raised their son Brian and daughter Megan. He most enjoyed spending time with family and friends and maintained very close ties with people from all periods of his life.
Since retiring to Rochester, he was active in the Christ Church community and Episcopal Senior Life doing what he loved, serving others and listening to outstanding organ music.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 11:00 am at Christ Church 141 East Ave. Rochester, NY 14604. In lieu of flowers, John requested that gifts be made to Friends of Music at Christ Church. Arrangements entrusted to the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., Livonia-Honeoye. To the Family of Mr. Nicholson: I read of the loss of your dear loved one, and I would like to extend my condolences. May the God of “all comfort and tender mercies” (Psalm 83:18) be with all of you through this very difficult time. Although it is never easy to deal with the loss of a loved one, Our Heavenly Father gives us the strength to cope (Philippians 4:6,7,13). Please accept my sincere condolences.
