  1. Dearest Thelma and Kathi,
We are so sorry to hear of Sherwood’s passing. Your family was always so much a part of ours. We remember Sherwood and Dad (Elwood) working on flying projects together, being at the firehouse together and so many other things. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. RIP Sherwood. Fly with the angels! Love, Rae, Judy and Deni Long

  2. Many many fond memories of my childhood neighbor up the street. My first “job” weeding the Hanna garden, babysitting Kathy, my horse grazing on one of their fields. I don’t get to Lakeville much since my folKS are gone but I when I pass through I will always remember Sherwood and his home on the street where I grew up. Thinking of you Thelma and Kathy.

  3. To the Hanna family:
I fondly remember Sherwood when we both were employed at Kemps. At one of my first training days at the bus company, Sherwood opened the hood and explained all about the inner workings of the car. To me, it was all new, but Kathy was there too and knew all about the mechanical aspects of the engine….must have been inherited! I remember the bus trips to Cartwrights Pancake House, and how Sherwood would out-eat everyone with the pancakes, even the younger staff!! I think that I will most recall his warm smile and wonderful sense of humor. My sympathies to all of you at this difficult time.

  4. Very sorry to hear of Mr. Hanna’s passing. He was friendly gentle man. May he rest in peace.

  5. It is with my most sincere condolences to the family of one of my favorite childhood memories in the Lakeville Community (along with his wife, Thelma, my girl scout leader). My father, George Ziegler, and Sherwood worked side-by-side at many Lakeville Fireman’s events, ushering together at the Lakeville Community Church, and working together at the Uncle Ott’s Christmas parties, and more. My childhood years hold many warm memories of such lovely folks as Mr. & Mrs. Hannah. May our Lord give you strength and courage to carry on without a blessed member of your family. I regret I am unable to attend services to give recognition to Sherwood in person, but I shall be thinking of you all.

  6. I am so sorry for your loss Thelma and kathie. I have nothing but great memories. I loved helping in the garden with my best friend chrissy taylor. He let Frank put a garden in the side lot.when ever we were at the house he would use it as a. Teaching experience. He may have drove bus but he was a teacher to many he had so much to share and teach us. I never knew what needles were till I ran through the field behind the barn right into a patch. I learned so much about them as he used tweezers and got them out of my shins. I also learned baking soda can be used for more than chocolate chip cookies as he made a mixture to make it feel better.I can only hope to have as many anniversaries as you guys.May God bring comfort to you during this time in your life .God bless

  7. I was sorry to hear of Sherwood’s passing. My prayers and sympathy go out to his wife and family. My fondest memory of Sherwood was the year that the Western NY Fireman’s Convention was in Dansville, my husband Dave was president and Sherwood drove the bus for the Firemen’s women to go on an expedition to Zoar Mountain. He was jovial, funny and made the excursion quite interesting. A good time was had by all. I have thought many times over the years of Thelma and Sherwood, but just didn’t get around to contacting them, but they both are in my memories of the good old fire fighting days. Pat

  8. Mr Hanna was a very nice person. He always had a smile and encouragement for all the young people he met along the way.

  9. sorry to hear this he and my dad Lee were friends. i remember him taking us up in his plane and he drove my school bus. may he rest in peace

  10. Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Sherwood. I have fond memories as a kid growing up in Lakeville, especially Uncle Ott’s Christmas Party and riding on the Fire Engine pass your house and Sherwood blasting the siren. As a student, riding on his bus twice a day and as an athlete, to and from away games. You always knew if Sherwood was driving…you were safe! In later years as a Volunteer Fireman, he was a role model, teacher and Chief! I’m very proud to have known him and served with him! He deserves his reward in heaven! God Bless the Hanna Family!

  11. I am truely Sorry to hear of the Passin of Sherwood… He was a great person… I remember working with him in his later years and he went out on a road test with me… He told me at the end that I did very well but I have to stop those California stops! I told him I did not remember doing that his reply was priceless. He said “I have to write something down, I can’t say it was perfect they would think I was sleeping or something!” My Prayers are with you all!

  12. Kathy:
So sorry for your loss. It’s not easy when you lose a parent. I have found memories of your dad during his bus driving days.
    God Bless!

  13. My deepest sympathy Mrs. Hanna, Kathi, and to your family, at the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. For many many moons, Mr. Hanna was our school bus driver, and he always got us to and from school safely. There may have been an argument or two, from time to time on the ole bus, but we knew just by his look it was a no no. I use to think he didn’t know how to smile, then one day, to my surprise, he did, and I changed my mind.

I knew Kathi from school and as life moved on, it came to be that two of my daughters attended the same school as Kathi’s girls, and they had become friends, how interesting life can be, and how small the world becomes as we grow older.

I pray for you, the greatest of peace and comfort during this time of loss. Blessings to you all……

  14. Sorry to hear of Sherwood’s passing, He was my boss when I started driving school bus. He loved flying, he took me up one day. He will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with the family

  15. I would like to say that my friendship with Sherwood Hanna began in 1978 and continued through my EMT training and ambulance service right through to late October 2015 when I delivered chickens to his home and he was with his aide in his wheelchair in his driveway and I gave him a kiss and had a short conversation. Thelma and Sherwood are (were) the kindest folks one could ever find in life. I will miss Sherwood, and I will find comfort sharing my memories of Sherwood with Thelma.

  16. I’m so sorry to hear of Sherwood’s passing but I rejoice in the sure knowledge that he is safe in the arms of our Lord Jesus and in no more pain. I pray that Jesus grant you all His peace and comfort in this time.
