To Bev and the kids:
I am so sorry for your loss..as you all know I loved Roger (Chopper to me). He was probably the nicest person I have ever know. I sure am glad I stopped to see him the last time I was in town. He had a wonderful life and loved his family and friends very much. He was a wonderful, caring loving man! I will certainly cherish the great times, talks (advice)and jokes he shared with me and my family. God bless you Chopper!
I would like everyone to know how Rog got the nickname “Chopper”:
Roger Sauerteig and I were best friends in high school (still are) and one day after school, in about our freshman year or so, some upperclassmen started to push us around and bully us. They were of coarse much older and bigger than us so we were intimidated by them to say the least! Along, as fate would have it, came Rog up the hallway with a broom in his hand and asked what was going on…the bullies told him to “butt out” and mind his own business. Rog said “This IS my business..these two guys happen to be good friends of mine”. They said something smart back to him and he said “If you two don’t leave these boys alone this will be a very bad day for both of you”…as he raised the broom handle. “Now get moving..and I better never hear of you picking on them again”! Those two bullies ran as fast as they could out of sight! They never messed with us again! (thanks to Rog)
Well, there was a 1960’s cartoon on TV at that time by Hanna-Barbera called “Yakky Doodle”. Yakky was a little duck and his friend was a big dog. The big dog always protected the little duck no matter what the circumstances were. The big dogs’ name was “Chopper”!
Now everyone will know how Rog got the nickname “Chopper”! He came by it honestly! Everyone thought it was because of his motorcycles. Nope..he will always be “Chopper” to me! We will miss him very much.
May God Bless his family.
Sorry to hear about your loss. Roger was a great guy. I remember when he took for my motorcycle test at 16. My condolences.
Will always remember Rog in his HCS days with a smile on his face, and a glint in his eye. Rest well, you’ve earned it. Love to all the family.
How fast time has gone by for all of us. So sorry to hear of your loss and ours as well. Wasn’t it just yesterday we were all at Aces dancing and drinking the nights away.? Roger always played Your So Vain and dedicated it to me. Great memories. May he rest in peace.
