  1. Dear Sauerhafer Family,

I am very sorry to hear about Harry’s passing. I only just found about out this sad news, but I wanted to reach out to you to let you know how much and how widely Harry was loved. I had “Mr. S” for Social Studies and then again as my beloved coach for all four years of varsity track (95-99). I still look back fondly on the days with Mr. S as my Coach, and I know that I will continue to think of him often, as I have developed a life-long love of running that can most certainly be attributed to his dedication to coaching and inspiring young runners. He was loved by the team and his students, and I know that he will be missed.

    Sending love from Delaware,
    Katie (McCrory) Bielat

  2. Hi Darlene,
It’s been a long time since we’ve all connected but both Harold and I remember Harry (and you!) from the days of MCJH. Some of our kids (Millers) had him as a teacher. Much love and prayers to you all as you journey ahead without him.

    Blessings,

    Juanita and Harold

  5. I am extremely sorry for your loss. I met Mr. ā€œSā€ is 7th grade! ( I am 43 now) I would like to share what I wrote as part of my Teacher of the Year paper. I think it shows what a great impact he had on my life! – It is imperative that I tell you about one other amazing teacher, Mr. Sauerhafer. Have you ever had someone believe you could do anything and make you believe those very same thoughts? That was Mr. Sauerhafer. He was my Social Studies teacher and track/cross country coach. My favorite class of the day was Social Studies, that is what I remember. I enjoyed going each and every day. I wanted to learn what he was teaching. I strived to do my best because I knew Mr. Sauerhafer knew I could do it, so I did. To this day I am not sure how he convinced a 100 yard dash sprinter to join the cross country team, but that was Mr. Sauerhafer. He knew I would excel at long distance and I did. The words he spoke at our cross country award ceremony will always ring loud and clear in my head. The MVR (Most Valuable Runner) award goes to someone who has the audacity to leave New York for Texas. He believed I would be good and I was. From Mr. ā€œSā€ I take the ability to believe in others until they believe in themselves.
