Livonia: Raymond S. Morrell, 94 years, of Big Tree St. Livonia died Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Livingston County CNR in Mt. Morris after a brief stay. Raymond was born in Livonia, NY, July 7, 1917, the son of Scott and Elizabeth Jamison Morrell. He attended school in Hemlock, and was a graduate of Cornell University. He was an Army World War II Veteran who was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of the Harrison-Lee American Legion Post #283. Ray was a long time teacher at Avon Central School where he taught agriculture, science and math. He was always happy to see his former students and made a point to attend all of the class reunions up until recently. Ray was a member the Livonia Grange, the New York State Retired Teachers Association, the Avon Chapter of the International Order of Odd Fellows, the Genesee Valley Military Officers Association and was the leader of the Future Farmers of America in Avon.

Raymond was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Ruth on Jan 17, 2012. He is survived by his children, Carol Cottone of Avon, Marjorie Houck of Avon & Joann (Anthony) Backus of Avon; 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; many nieces & nephews.

Friends may call Tuesday 2 – 4, 6 – 8 PM at Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., Rtes. 15 & 20A, 21 Big Tree St., Livonia, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM. Burial with full military honors in Temple Hill Cemetery, Geneseo. Memorial contributions to the Harrison-Legion Post #283, PO 214, Livonia, NY 14487.   2. Our most sincere condolences for your losses this year. It was a blessing to have our parents with us for so many years but it is comforting to know Ray and Ruth are reunited once again. To paraphrase the Irish Blessing: Until we all meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

  3. To the best neighbor anyone could have. Ray would always say good neighbors are hard to find and we have shared alot of wonderul memories. You have found Ruth and you are together again. We will miss you very much but I know you are looking down on us with all the love in your heart. We shared so many Birthday’s together you both will be missed on the deck. God Speed Ray and until we meet again!
