Livonia. Daniel “Dan” W. Downey, age 92, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville with his loving family by his side. He was born on January 8, 1933, in Mt. Morris, NY. Dan is predeceased by his sisters Mary Downey Muscato and Sally Downey Muscato. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Margaret C. (Harter) Downey, his children, Susan (Ronald) Beaupre, and Amy (Andrew) Morsch, his grandchildren, Nicole Rawleigh, Ryan Beaupre, Heather Beaupre, Stephen (Sarah) Morsch, and Timothy Morsch, and his great-grandchildren, Brayden Rawleigh, Hunter Beaupre, Lillian Faro, and Kamille Faro. He is also survived by his sisters, Elsie Patterson, and Katie Stewart (Spike), along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dan was well-known in the community. Among many things, he worked alongside his brother-in-law Gary Patterson at the Keystone Gas Station for many years and was a retiree from the New York State DOT but perhaps, what he was most known for and what he took most pride in was being a lifelong member of the Livonia Fire Department.
He also took great pride in his lawn and tractor and found great joy working outside in the yard, mowing, plowing the driveway, decorating flower beds, hanging feeders for the birds, and helping his neighbors.
Above all, Dan cherished spending time with his family, especially his devoted wife of 64 years, Margaret. In his later years, he looked forward to breakfast and coffee at “Wanda’s” everyday and gathering with his sisters every month for lunch.
Friends and family are invited to call from 10-11 AM on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, 21 Big Tree Street in Livonia. Dan’s funeral service will begin at 11 AM, immediately following calling hours. Interment will take place after the service at St. Michaels Cemetery on Shelly Road in Livonia. Followed by a luncheon at the United Methodist Church of Livonia, 21 Summers St in Livonia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Livonia Fire Department, P.O. Box 151, Livonia, NY 14487

Margaret, Sue and Amy – Our lives are made up of chapters and I will always cherish my childhood memories living across the street from you. My sincere condolences on the loss of a wonderful husband and father.
Dan Downey and Elwood Peck were the first two people that we met when we moved into 20 Big Tree Street. Dan spent countless hours at the park so that the Livonia Community could gather and party. He was always a willing and eager volunteer. Dan will be MISSED but NOT FORGOTTEN.

Dan certainly qualifies as a Livonia old-timer! Among his various community jobs, Dan worked for the Village of Livonia for many years, caring for Bowen and Community Parks. I will always remember Dan as a dedicated and meticulous worker who took great pride in keeping our parks welcoming environments for everyone who visited them. He was the ideal person for a position like that. Thank you, Dan, for everything you did for your community. Rest in peace.
Dan was everyone’s friend. Anytime I was out walking or running on East Ave and Dan was outside, there was always a wave or a stop to chat. Dan was always proud to be a part of the Fire Department and always ready and willing to help anyone out. RIP. A life well lived. Thoughts and prayers to Margaret and family.
