Richard “Rick” Frost ~ March 31, 2024

Honeoye: At age 65, Richard “Rick” Frost passed suddenly on March 31, 2024 at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, NY. He was born on November 18, 1958, in Canandaigua, NY to the late William C. and Flavia Joy (Gentilli) Frost. In addition to his parents, his sister-in-law Patricia Duplessis predeceased him. He is survived by his wife Janet (Britton) Frost; his daughter Jessie (Nate) Miller, brothers Robert (Betty) Frost, Hue (Lucretia) Vuong, sister Diana (Andy) Blum, sister-in-laws, Sharon Chau, Pamela (Karl) Schill, Carol Mensinger, brother-in-laws, Leon Britton, Allen (Karen) Britton, Brian Britton as well as several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dogs, Bear and Hunter.

Rick attended Honeoye Central School and graduated in 1978. Every summer while he was in school, he would travel back to his mom’s hometown of Trieste, Italy with his mom and brother. Very shortly after graduation, he met his wife, Jan Britton, and they began dating. After starting their relationship, they began drag racing, even racing each other at times, and running the car show circuit with multiple friends. Rick drove tractor-trailer for a living and finally ended up at his favorite career, working for Huff Equipment as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver.

In 1994, Rick joined the Richmond Fire Department, wanting to be an apparatus operator only. Shortly joining he was elected into the position of Lieutenant and his idea of being an apparatus driver only was over. He has been an officer ever since then, reaching the position of Chief which he held for 11 years, ultimately stepping down in 2023 so his daughter could step into his footsteps as Chief.

In 1995, Rick and Jan welcomed their baby girl, Jessica, and their lives were never the same. As a very close family, the three of them traveled everywhere together, including Disney World multiple times, which was their favorite place to travel to. The three of them opened their restaurant, Main Street Deli, in 2004 on Main St in Honeoye. The restaurant closed in 2006 and was moved onto the road as Triple R BBQ (Rick’s Rolling Restaurant). In 2008, Rick was hired to be the caterer for the staff of Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Rick, Jan, and Jessie traveled all over the country for a full season until the show was canceled. In 2011, he began working for the Richmond Highway Department while also traveling the fair circuit with his BBQ business in the summer. Rick retired from the Highway Department Christmas of 2023 and finally got to travel in his Freightliner to Florida with Jan for 6 weeks doing whatever they wanted to. Rick was so proud of what he had accomplished for the Richmond Fire Department, but more importantly very proud of the family he had grown. Not only is he survived by the people listed above, but by his legacy to the fire service and all who met him. If Rick could pass on one thing, he would want everyone to know to work hard and don’t back down on something you truly believe in.

Friends and family are invited to call from 3-7 PM on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, 8624 Main Street in Honeoye. Rick’s Funeral Service will be held on April 13, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the United Church of Christ 8758 Main St. Honeoye. 5. Jan, Jessie and Rick’s family
We are so very sorry for your loss. I feel it is a loss for my husband and I as well for we moved in as a neighbor of Bill and Joy and the boys and eventually Ricky and his bride. We often talked with Rick in his teenage years driving a hot rod down the road and spinning around in the intersection. He had no fear. I also worked with Rick on the cemetery committee for many years and his help was invaluable. He and Jan were great neighbors and what a fantastic cook. I would step outside to smell what ever he was smoking or cooking on his grill. But most of all I remember and will miss that great smile and wonderful laugh.
    Rest in peace Rick.

  11. My sympathy to Jan, Jessie & the extended family. Living in Honeoye, everyone knew the Frost family. Rick was devoted to the small community & I’m sure will be missed. Rest in peace.

  12. Rick was a large and intimidating person but once you got to know him he was loving caring and jovial kind hearted person. During my short time knowing Rick I came to respect him for what he had accomplished in his life his family and his legacy with Richmond FD. One of the reasons I loved the Richmond FD was because Rick was fair respectful easy going boss. I loved it so much I became a volunteer until I had to leave do to conflicts of interest with the staffing company I was associated with. I sadly left Richmond FD to pursue most lucrative aspirations. But I always regretted leaving because I enjoy the time I had chatting with Rick and being a part of the team he built. I respected Rick like mentor and father figure because he looked after the FD members like he did as if they where his children. Rick will be missed in the hearts of those he touched but I consider myself blessed to have known Rick. may he continue his travels in the big highway of the sky with much brotherly love and respect sincerely Adam

  17. I talked with you on the phone while you were in the hospital. I needed some advice, just like the many times I’d confide in you previously. Your wisdom and experience always solved problems. I always loved your leadership style, too.
Hardly a day goes by that I don’t ask myself, “What would Rick say?” We were so lucky to have you as Fire Chief, trainer, mentor and friend. I’m also going to miss your great cooking! You had many talents and much love.

  19. We have known Rick and Jan for at least 40 years, getting together just about every weekend whether it was at our house or theirs, helping at their car show at the fairgrounds or the halloween parties at their house or just sitting around listening to Hank Williams Jr all the time (lol) drinking, eating and most of all laughing, those were the days! Then kids came along for us all and the weekend get together stopped but we were there for each other but in different ways. Rick had a big heart and would lend a helping hand whenever asked. Rick will be forever missed and never forgotten, rest in peace and know that Jessie will be fine in this crazy world cause you and Jan raised her to be strong, kind and caring just like you both! Honored to have called you our friend!

  20. I am so sorry to hear of Rick’s passing There are so many great memories of Rick that Im sure will be shared during this time. Everyone knew him for his family, hard work and love of the community. I will share a story which makes me smile every time I think of it. As a young girl my family & Rick’s family all lived on the same road. I loved his Mom Joy and one day they needed someone to babysit for Ricky & Bobby, Joy called my parents and Mom said sure. Well it was summer time, hot so boys decided to get their camo heavy duty squirt guns and chase me around the house. Of course I got the most of it and they sure had fun! Grief has many faces and you will travel through them all ,people don’t know what to say. Lean on your family/friends/daughter Jess will need all of them. Rick was proud of his wife & daughter & Honeoye community

  21. So sorry for to hear this. Rick was a HUGE part of Hemlock “Little Worlds” Fair and was not only a LONG time vendor but as Chief he brought many people and equipment to the fair to protect everyone and make sure EVERYONE was safe. He sure gave back.
