Livonia, NY: Brad was born on May 8, 1970 in Twin Falls, Idaho and passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family, at age 53, on March 3, 2024 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. He was predeceased by his brother Christopher “Todd” Shellenbarger. Survived by his beloved daughters, Sydney, Sara, and Alissa Shellenbarger; his wife Shellie (Schultz) Shellenbarger; his mother Eileen Shellenbarger, father Gary Shellenbarger, and siblings, Kimberlee Shellenbarger (Sam Ferris) and Gary (Cheryl) Shellenbarger Jr. Brad is also survived by his sister and brother in laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and an endless amount of friends. His brotherhood at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office was his second family, first and foremost through thick or thin Larry Kennedy, Brent Mistretta, Matt Templeton and Mike Malone.
Brad was an amazing father to his girls as they described him so beautifully in the message below:
Dad, you were the most amazing father we could have ever asked for. No amount of time with you would’ve been enough. Your ability to make us laugh and mend our hearts will be a trait we will forever carry on. You showed us how to love and care for those around us. You were there for us no matter what, you always knew how to just be there. You gave us time to say goodbye and that’s all we could’ve asked for. You can rest now and enjoy everyone who’s been waiting on you up there. Make some cookies with Grandma Mary Lee at Christmas, spend all the lost time with your brother Todd, and drink your heart out with all your friends that have been waiting for you. We will see you again when the time is right and we know you’ll be watching over us every step of the way. You were a best friend to many but most importantly a best and first friend to us three. Rest now, we will be okay. We love you with every part of us. We love you dad.
The true meaning of the family isn’t just blood. Brad was a brother and a friend to so many and the first to lend a hand in a time of need. His best friend Larry Kennedy described him as giving, loyal to a fault, generous, funny, humble and most dependable man he knew. Brad loved his family and his girls came first and there was no changing that. He was banned from power tools except the weed eater and lawn mower but we all know about that. He may be gone but it is guaranteed he will not be forgotten.
At Brad’s request no formal funeral services will be held because he didn’t want I’m sorry’s or tears, but rather a gathering to celebrate him to comfort his girls and family. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, March 9th, from 2pm – 8pm at the Lakeville Fireman’s Training Grounds, 5939 Stone Hill Road, Lakeville, NY. Shellenbarger family I’m so sorry for your loss. Brad was a great guy and a great friend to many. I was honored to have spent his 50th birthday with him and was able to make his favorite cake for him (carrot cake) which I ended up shaping it into a big PENIS for a inside joke. Brads passing is a very sad loss to his family and community and the Livingston County Sheriffs Office his commitment to doing a great job daily was a testament to the respect he had from staff and thousands of meals he served to the inmates throughout his many years of service May he rest in peace and he will remain in our thoughts and prayers .
