Ethan John Marr – December 9, 2023

Hemlock: At age 37, Ethan passed away at the Roswell Cancer Center after a courageous battle with leukemia. He is survived by his loving parents Joseph and Kathryn (Knowlton) Marr; fiancé Melissa Emerson; son Dawson Emerson-Marr; daughter Paisley Emerson; brother David (Christy Fessler) Marr; sisters, Hannah Marr, and Sarah Cole; nieces, Justine and Terra Marr; aunts, Helen (David) Ankele, Mary Ellen Kowiatek; and uncle John (Kathryn) Knowlton.

Ethan was born in Oregon on May 27, 1986 and also lived in California and Texas before settling in New York State, where he graduated from Livonia High School. He earned an Associate’s Degree from Monroe Community College and was currently employed as a Computer Services Assistant in the IT Department of Livonia Central School District, which he enjoyed very much.

Ethan was blessed with wonderful friendships and enjoyed spending time with many of his online friends, playing video games and sharing knowledge and experiences. He was a storyteller, especially around holidays and in his online gaming communities, he loved creating imaginative stories, games, scavenger hunts, quizzes, and contests to entertain his family and friends.

Ethan is an Eagle Scout and stayed active in the Scouting program to help bring all that Scouting has to offer to our younger generations. He looked forward to participating with his own children and immersed himself in the role of Cubmaster when his daughter joined Livonia’s Cub Scout Pack.

Ethan always looked for the bright side of things and seemed to always be laughing. He loved so many aspects of life; the outdoors, science fiction, comedy, physics, computers, family celebrations, and his young son and daughter. He will be missed immeasurably.

No calling hours will be held. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. To send a condolence or share a memory please visit: www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com

  1. I’m Robin, also known as Geno, and one of Ethan’s friends. We’ve met years ago when I was invited to one of his servers to hang out. We’ve played games together, and had so much fun. I’m sorry for your loss. He will be missed, but he is forever loved by his friends and family. My prayers to you all.

  2. I loved working with Ethan in English classes. His positive attitude and willingness to give any activity his best effort had others willing to work in his groups.

When Ethan returned to join the staff at Livonia, I was excited to get reacquainted with him. There were days I volunteered with the cafeteria staff and was able to work closely with Ethan once again. During that time, we spoke often about his fiance and family. When Dawson was born, there was such happiness and celebrating! Ethan loved his family; it was clear in his words and the joy on his face when he spoke about each of them.

As a member of the IT staff, Ethan was quick to help problem solve any question I had. Always a smile and a greeting when I passed the IT room.

Ethan Marr is a good soul who contributed to his community and family throughout his lifetime; through those contributions, he lives on.
With deepest sympathy and love to his family, I continue to send prayers.

  4. Ethan was a part of our foodservice department family at Livonia CSD too before he moved onto IT. It was a pleasure to have him be a part of our lives and we are heartbroken for his family. He fought his illness with courage and dignity and faced the trials and tribulations with strength and positivity- a lesson to us all. May he rest in peace and his family find solace in memories they hold in their hearts.

No matter what stressful situations our games got us into, he pulled us out with his positivity and hilarious wit. We we lucky enough to have him and Melissa at our wedding and that will always be the best gift we received that day! Life wont be the same without him, but his light shines with us forever.
